Michigan Judge Halts Recount After Two Days: “No Evidence Of Tampering”

Jill Stein’s recount of the Michigan presidential vote has been ordered to stop by a federal judge because there’s no “evidence of tampering or mistake.”

From Detroit Free Press:

In his eight-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith said “there is no basis” for him to ignore a state court ruling that said the recount should never had started. He was referring to the Michigan Court of Appeals 3-0 ruling, which said that Green Party Candidate Jill Stein, who requested the recount, never had a shot at winning with her fourth-place finish and 1% of the vote, and therefore was not an aggrieved candidate.

Goldsmith’s ruling also bolstered some arguments that were repeatedly made by the Michigan Republican Party: that there was never any evidence that hacking or fraud occurred at the polls, and that Michigan’s voting system is so secure that not even the “Gremlins, Martians or Russian hackers” could tamper with it. That argument appeared to carry some weight with the judge.

“To date, plaintiffs have not presented evidence of tampering or mistake. Instead, they present speculative claims going to the vulnerability of the voting machinery — but not actual injury,” Goldsmith wrote, adding the potential for fraud is not enough to continue to allow the recount to proceed.

Lady Gaga Visits Ali Forney Center In NYC

Lady Gaga, during a visit to the Ali Forney Center in NYC, says that kindness has been an important component to finding peace in her life.

I have to mention early on here that the work the Ali Forney Center does in NYC is beyond fantastic. Please consider them for your holiday charity dollars.

Via The Today Show:

“I’ve been searching for ways to help myself. And I found that kindness is the best way,” she told TODAY recently while on a visit to Harlem’s Ali Forney Center, a shelter for homeless LGBT youth, to surprise the teens living there.

She’s a superstar singer and passionate activist, but when Lady Gaga meets a trauma survivor, she’s just one of them. “I told the kids today, ‘I suffer from PTSD.’ I’ve never told anyone that before. So here we are. But the kindness that’s shown to me by doctors as well as my family, and my friends, it’s really saved my life.”

According to the Ali Forney Center, 80 percent of the youth there are kicked out of their homes because of their sexuality. The rest run away because of neglect, abuse, rejection, or a combination of those.

“How’s it going? I’m Lady Gaga; it’s nice to see you,” she said to the shocked crowd. Needless to say, the introduction was not necessary. One teen told her, “When family was, like, kind of, like, pushing me away because I’m gay, all I had is you and ‘Born This Way’ album on repeat.”

“Amazon Go” Stores – No Lines, No Checkout

This sounds fab! I would so shop here.

Via US Weekly:

Taking grab-and-go to the next level. Amazon just opened a state-of-the art grocery store called Amazon Go in downtown Seattle that lets customers shop without ever waiting in line or going through a checkout process. In a video introducing the concept Monday, December 5, the e-commerce company refers to it as “just-walk-out technology” and shows a man walking in, picking up a sandwich and immediately leaving.

This is how it works: When customers enter the store, they pull up the Amazon Go app and tap their cellphones on a turnstile. When customers pick up items from the shelf, the items are automatically added to their virtual shopping cart in the app. It works for indecisive shoppers, too. If customers change their mind about an item, they can just put it back on the shelf. The charge will be deducted from their cart.

Once patrons have everything they need, they simply exit the store. When they leave, Amazon’s technology adds up their purchases and charges it to their Amazon account. A receipt is instantly sent via the app. A source tells The Wall Street Journal that Amazon will soon open two more Seattle-area grocery stores in the next few weeks, but these locations will be drive-thru only. According to the source, the retail giant is hoping to open more than 2,000 grocery stores across the country depending on the success of the test locations.

Donald Trump Named TIME Magazine’s “Person Of The Year”

President-elect Donald Trump has been named TIME Magazine’s “Person of the Year.”

Check the subtitle – a well-earned “President of the Divided States of America.”

“What amazes a lot of people is that I’m sitting in an apartment the likes of which nobody’s ever seen,” the next President says, smiling. “And yet I represent the workers of the world.”

Some news stories you may have missed:

• My uber-handsome and talented friend Joel Ingram wants you to remember to “Make the yuletide gay.” He takes a great pic, amiright?

• Eric Trump, son of the orange one, asserted over the weekend that Jill Stein’s recount efforts somehow were to blame for the deaths of “at least 5,000 children.” Of course, Trump could have helped those 5,000 children with the $25 million settlement he paid for scamming thousands of people.

• Speaking of money, the city of New York is sending the federal government a bill for $35 million for the cost of securing Trump Tower from November 8th through January 20th.

• Hillary Clinton’s popular vote lead grows to 2.65 million votes. With those numbers, Trump can never claim to have a mandate from the people.

• Florida voters file a lawsuit in state court demanding a recount of the presidential election based on issues of hacking, faulty voting machines, and voters being turned away from the polls.

• Ever wonder just how much “YouTube stars” make from all those videos? Here’s the Top 10 YouTubers ranked by Forbes:

Polish Holiday Ad Featuring Senior Learning English Goes Viral

I love sharing holiday “adverts” from Europe. With tons of creativity and heart, they really seem to find a way to move us.

Get ready for the tissues, you going to need them.

Viewed over 2.7 million times already, this Polish spot from online auction site Allegro features a senior gentleman learning English via an “English For Beginners” program.

The senior sets out quite aggressively to learn the new language, placing post-its on everything in his home, including his adorable dog.

It’s not until you get to the end of the spot that the reason for his determination becomes clear.

This is pretty great 🙂

Secret Service Listed As “Amenity” For Rentals At Trump Tower

Listing agents marketing rentals at Trump Tower are listing “Secret Service Protection” as an amenity at the Fifth Avenue residence.

Via Politico:

The U.S. Secret Service is the hot, new “amenity” in the Trump Tower, where desperate brokers are trying to lure well-heeled clients into the building on Fifth Avenue that has served as President-elect Donald Trump’s home as well as his campaign and transition headquarters.

Less than a week after Trump was elected, prominent New York real estate agency Douglas Elliman blasted out an e-mail with the subject: “Fifth Avenue Buyers Interested in Secret Service Protection?” to advertise a $2.1 million, 1,052-square-foot condo in the tower on 721 Fifth Avenue.

“The New Aminity [sic] – The United States Secret Service,” screamed the flier sent in an e-mail on Nov. 13 for a one-bedroom apartment on the 31st floor, represented by brokers Ariel Sassoon and Devin Leahy.

“The Best Value in the Most Secure Building in Manhattan,” it stated.

Shirtless Massachusetts Firefighters 2017 Calendar

Let’s just take a nice long look at the cover of the Massachusetts Firefighter Calendar featuring “12 of the Bay State’s hottest firemen,” with a goal of raising $50,000 for the MSPCA.

The mission of the MSPCA-Angell is to protect animals, relieve their suffering, advance their health and welfare, prevent cruelty, and work for a just and compassionate society.

Not only do you get firefighting hotties, BUT $5 from every calendar sold will go directly to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

What’s not to like?
