Fox News: White House Playing A Very Dangerous Game With The Currency Of The Credibility Of The President

I was amazed this actually aired on Fox News.

Anchor Chris Wallace calmly dissects the ricochet rhetoric that has been flying around the White House this week.

Here’s just a bit of Wallace’s comments:

“When I heard that exchange today between Jeff Mason, White House reporter, and Sean Spicer speaking from the podium in the briefing room for the President of the United States, it took my breath away. That was what in Watergate they called a non-denial denial. He was asked specifically, ‘Is there a recording device in the Oval Office of the President of the United States?’ He said, ‘I have nothing for you on that.’ He could have said no. He could have said yes.

“He said, ‘I have nothing for you on that.’ That is a non-denial denial. Look, it may just be that the President is trolling the press corps and saying, ‘Work yourself into a frenzy about this,’ and turns out it’s nothing. But why would he do that? Why would he want to decrease the credibility, which is already in question, of this White House and comments made from that podium? It seems to me that you’re playing a very dangerous game with the currency of the credibility of the President of the United States.”

Now, when even FOX NEWS is calling out the crazy, you know we’ve reached a serious level of lunacy.

Gleeful Stephen Colbert To Trump: “You Know Who Has Really Bad Ratings? You Do.”

Stephen Colbert is over the moon that President Trump called the late night talk show host out for being “a no-talent guy” with “bad ratings” who uses “filthy language” during the president’s interview with NBC’s Lester Holt.

Just a bit from Colbert’s monologue:

“I do occasionally use adult language. And I do it in public, instead of the privacy of an Access Hollywood bus…”

“You know who has really bad ratings these days? You do. Terrible approval numbers. I hear they’re talking about switching your time slot with Mike Pence.”

“Since all of my success is because of you, there’s an obvious way to take me down. Resign.”

NY Times: Trump Demanded FBI Director’s “Loyalty” At Private Dinner

Former FBI Director James Comey

The New York Times is reporting a slightly different version of the Trump/Comey dinner meeting back in January than what Trump revealed last night on NBC:

Only seven days after Donald J. Trump was sworn in as president, James B. Comey has told associates, the F.B.I. director was summoned to the White House for a one-on-one dinner with the new commander in chief. The conversation that night in January, Mr. Comey now believes, was a harbinger of his downfall this week as head of the F.B.I., according to two people who have heard his account of the dinner.

As they ate, the president and Mr. Comey made small talk about the election and the crowd sizes at Mr. Trump’s rallies. The president then turned the conversation to whether Mr. Comey would pledge his loyalty to him. Mr. Comey declined to make that pledge. Instead, Mr. Comey has recounted to others, he told Mr. Trump that he would always be honest with him, but that he was not “reliable” in the conventional political sense.

By Mr. Comey’s account, his answer to Mr. Trump’s initial question apparently did not satisfy the president, the associates said. Later in the dinner, Mr. Trump again said to Mr. Comey that he needed his loyalty. Mr. Comey again replied that he would give him “honesty” and did not pledge his loyalty, according to the account of the conversation.

The Times goes on to state that Comey shared the dinner conversation with folks close to him on the condition that they not share the chat publicly while he was serving as FBI Director.

Apparently, now that Comey has been dismissed, those folks felt free to share.

FYI – FBI officials take an oath to the Constitution, not a president.

#FlashBackFriday – The Red Dress Event

Yours truly back in 2007 for the Red Dress Event in Las Vegas

I stumbled across this pic from the Annual Red Dress Event here in Las Vegas when I was invited to be a part of a photoshoot for the fundraiser back in 2007.

Who am I to turn down a photoshoot in a red dress? 😉

The annual charity event is organized by the Sin City Sisters is dedicated to creating HIV/AIDS awareness and visibility and raising funds to assist HIV+ people in Southern Nevada with their medications. All attendees are required to wear a red dress/skirt/kilt/toga/whatever in order to get in to show unity in our community.

The Sin Sity Sisters have been a non-profit organization for over eleven years. They exist as “an order of 21st century nuns dedicated to the promulgation of omniversal joy and the expiation of stigmatic guilt.”

Our ministry is one of public manifestation and habitual perpetration. We work to raise money for our Sisters AIDS Drug Assistance Program (SADAP). We advocate for queer rights and visibility and conduct safer sex outreach. We work to affirm the value and beauty of all persons and particularly within the queer community. We strive diligently to keep our sense of humor, never taking ourselves so seriously that we forget to have fun.

The annual event benefits SADAP which assists individuals in the community regardless of race, age or gender.

The program has distributed over $600,000 in medication assistance since 2006 helping hundreds of HIV+ in Southern Nevada.

Good work, sisters!

Sense8 Season 2 Delivers Spectacular Coming Out Kiss At São Paulo Pride

Alfonso Herrera and Miguel Ángel Silvestre share a kiss in a scene from Sense8

Love, love, loving season 2 of Netflix’s sci-fi-fi series, Sense8.

On top  of the complex, sophisticated story-telling, the gay and transgender storylines are front and center, and handled well with sensitivity and authenticity.

One of the highlights of the 11 new episodes occurs as newly out action movie star “Lito Rodriguez” (played by hunky Miguel Ángel Silvestre) is invited to be grand marshal of São Paulo Pride in Brazil.

In his speech at Pride (actually filmed at São Paulo Pride last year), Rodriguez cautiously shares the fears that lead to actors staying in the closet.

“All of my life, I’ve had to pretend to be something I wasn’t. I couldn’t be what I am. I am a gay man. I’ve never said those words in public before. I am a gay man! I am a gay man!”

“Why did I have to be so afraid to say that? Because I know that people are afraid of people that are different than them. And admitting that I’m different, and refusing to be something that I am not, may cost me a career of pretending to be things that I am not, which is kind of crazy when you think about it. But I did. I did.

“For years, I was living inside the fake world of movies, never to imagine that one day, I might be brave enough to do something like this.”

“This is Hernando. He is the love of my life. I am a better and braver person because of him. And whatever it cost for me to be able to do this, I know in my heart that it is worth it.”

The entire season lives up to and exceeds my expectations. Not only regarding LGBT characters but the storytelling as a whole.

I can’t recommend season 2 of Sense8 enough. Check it out now on Netflix.

Trump Threatens To Cancel White House Press Briefings

In addition to making threats to former FBI Director James Comey, President Trump also had a Twitter meltdown this morning over his communication team’s bumbling with the daily White House press briefings.

Trump went so far as to say “As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with perfect accuracy! Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future “press briefings” and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???”

It’s worth noting that the reporters are at the White House as part of the effort to keep a government, including the president, transparent. And, to keep the American public informed of our elected officials actions.

And then there’s that whole First Amendment thing…

Press briefings are not about stroking a president or their administration.

Donald Trump Threatens Fired FBI Director James Comey

Because this is totally normal.

President Trump issued a veiled threat to fired FBI Director James Comey via Twitter today:

“James Comey better hope that there are no “tapes” of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!”

#paranoid

UPDATE – via CNN:

Former FBI Director James Comey is “not worried about any tapes” of conversations between him and President Donald Trump, a source familiar with the matter told CNN Friday, adding that “if there is a tape, there’s nothing he is worried about” that could be on it.

And then there’s this from NBC reporter Ken Dilanian:
