Stephen Colbert Breaks Down Sam Nunberg’s Nutty Breakdown

Because the day just couldn’t end without a bit more nutty Sam Nunberg coverage, last night Stephen Colbert broke down Nunberg’s day-long media meltdown.

From The Week:

“Now, I know you all came here tonight to hear me talk about trade tariffs,” Stephen Colbert deadpanned on Monday’s Late Show, after recapping the Oscars. “But we’re not talking about trade tariffs tonight” he added, “because right before we taped this show, the entire news cycle jumped on the bus to crazy town. At the wheel?” Former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg. Special Counsel Robert Mueller subpoenaed Nunberg in the Russia investigation, and Nunberg spent much of Monday on TV insisting he won’t cooperate.

“Nunberg took over cable TV like a car chase,” Colbert said, playing some choice CNN and MSNBC clips. He found Nunberg’s defiance a little puzzling: “You know Mueller can arrest you, right? That’s like saying ‘Eat me’ to Hannibal Lecter.” And yet Nunberg talked and talked and talked, dropping tantalizing clues and unsubstantiated bombshells. “This guy is like a Snickers bar — the peanuts just keep coming,” Colbert marveled.

By the way, after spending all afternoon chasing every news show he could get on, Nunberg eventually told the AP last night, “I’m going to end up cooperating with them.”

Please keep your hands and feet inside the car until the ride comes to a complete stop.

RuPaul’s “Apology” Doesn’t Sit Well With Trans Community

RuPaul

RuPaul recently got into a kerfuffle with the transgender community when he told The Guardian he would “probably not” include a transgender woman who had fully transitioned to compete on the Emmy Award-winning reality show.

“You can identify as a woman and say you’re transitioning, but it changes once you start changing your body. It takes on a different thing; it changes the whole concept of what we’re doing,” he said. “We’ve had some girls who’ve had some injections in the face and maybe a little bit in the butt here and there, but they haven’t transitioned.”

As the trans community took exception with the remarks, Ru seemed to pour gasoline on the fire with a tweet that seemed to compare transgender drag competitors to doping athletes.

Alexandra Billings, a transgender star of Amazon’s Transparent, stepped into the fray with a message to Ru via Instagram which read, “Dear RuPaul, You did not invent drag. We did.”

I’m not an expert on drag, so I do have a question:

My understanding is drag is about illusion. Separately, transgender women are women. So, where would the illusion be in trans women competing in a drag competition?

Ru issued a Twitter apology today that didn’t include the word “sorry,” and folks were not calmed by the choice of words.

President With Lowest Approval Ratings In History Mocks Oscars Low TV Ratings

Donald Trump

And who says irony is dead?

Donald Trump, the president with the lowest approval ratings in history, took a swipe at Hollywood by pointing out the Academy Awards’ low TV ratings with a tweet that read, “Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY. Problem is, we don’t have Stars anymore – except your President.”

The Trumpster added a quick “just kidding, of course,” but I’m not so sure he was kidding…

Randy Rainbow Gives Dana Loesch A Tongue Lashing With “Kids” Parody From BYE BYE BIRDIE

New Randy Rainbow! Squee!!!

This time Randy takes on truly terrible NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch with his parody of “Kids” from the 1960 Broadway hit Bye Bye Birdie.

The “kids” Randy’s referring to are the students from the Parkland high school in Florida who not only survived the terrible gun massacre there but are harnessing lots of support for gun legislation.

Notable that the song “Kids” was originally sung on Broadway by gay actor Paul Lynde.

Former Trump Aide Sam Nunberg Thinks Special Counsel May Have “Something” On Trump

Former top Trump aide Sam Nunberg says he will defy a Mueller subpoena and not show up for grand jury testimony because it’s a pain to pull together the information Special Counsel Robert Mueller has requested.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Nunberg said he was asked to come to appear before the grand jury on Friday.

He also admitted he was asked for any communications related to President Trump and nine other people, including departing White House communications director Hope Hicks, former White House strategist Stephen K. Bannon, Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone.

“I shouldn’t have to spend that much time,” said Nunberg. “I shouldn’t have to go to a grand jury. I’m spending a lot of money on legal fees. A lot of other people are. And granted, Donald Trump caused this because he’s an idiot.”

Nunberg told several reporters this afternoon that he believes Mueller thinks Roger Stone (Nunberg’s mentor) colluded with Julian Assange of WikiLeaks. I’m guessing that is in reference to WikiLeaks release of emails from the DNC.

“They want me to testify against Roger,” Nunberg said. “They want me to say that Roger was going around telling people he was colluding with Julian Assange.”

MSNBC’s Katy Tur directly asked him, “Do you think that they [meaning Mueller] have something on the president?”

Nunberg’s response: “I think they may. I think he may have done something during the election.”

He told CNN’s Gloria Borger, “Mueller thinks that trump is the Manchurian Candidate, and I will tell you I disagree with that.”

As I write this, Nunberg – giving yet another interview on TV – just told CNN’s Jake Tapper, “I’m not cooperating. Arrest me.”

Nunberg also told Tapper he believes Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting Donald Trump Jr. had with Russians in June of 2016.

This was truly a stunning series of interviews.

One, you don’t just say “no” to the Special Counsel.

Two, you don’t give three wild and wooly, lengthy interviews live on CNN and MSNBC. A smart man would just shut up.

Watch several of Nunberg’s moments on TV today below.

Gus Kenworthy & Adam Rippon Make A Splash At The Oscars

Ok, just because I love my Olympic boys Gus Kenworthy and Adam Rippon, I have to share these pics from their social media accounts as both were invited to last night’s Academy Award ceremonies.

Above, Gus snapped a quick pic with boyfriend Matthew Wilkas as they were heading out for the evening. Word is they were on the list for just about every important post-Oscar party there was – Vanity Fair’s soiree, Elton John’s party…

Gus also co-hosted the “Eonline Puppy Pick” where he may or may not have helped steer the Call Me By Your Name pup to the finish line.

And below, Adam, as always, was Adam bringing his own sense of style to the red carpet. That look included a leather harness which Adam pulled off flawlessly.

First Look At Upcoming “Mary Poppins Returns”

Emily Blunt as “Mary Poppins”

What a great way to start the week as we get our first look at the upcoming Mary Poppins sequel, Mary Poppins Returns.

Starring Emily Blunt and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, this new chapter in the Poppins saga will see the indomitable nanny return to find her former charges Michael and Jane Banks all grown up.

But there’s always a need for Poppins.

Also appearing in the cast are Angela Lansbury, Meryl Streep and Dick Van Dyke.

I have to admit I got a chill watching this. The film hits theaters this Christmas because, you know, “it’s a jolly holiday with Mary…”

Washington State Lawmakers Ban “Conversion Therapy” For Minors

From the AP:

The Washington Legislature has passed a bill to ban licensed therapists from trying to change a minor’s sexual orientation.

The Senate agreed on changes made in the House to Senate Bill 5722 and passed it on a 33-16 vote Saturday. It now heads to Gov. Jay Inslee for his signature.

The bill would deem it “unprofessional conduct” for a licensed health care provider to perform conversion therapy on a patient under the age of 18.

Under the measure, if the provider violates the law, they would face sanctions ranging from fines to license revocation or suspension. Changes made in the House include the measure applying to non-licensed counselors operating as part of a religious organization, religious denomination or church.

Research shows no evidence that one can change their sexual orientation. In fact, these practices can have dangerous effects on LGBTQ young people such as depression, decreased self-esteem, substance abuse, homelessness, and even suicidal behavior.

So-called “conversion therapy” has been denounced by every major medical and mental health organization, including the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, and the American Psychological Association.

Connecticut, California, Nevada, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, Oregon, Illinois, Vermont, New York, New Mexico, and Rhode Island all have laws or regulations protecting youth from this abusive practice.

Several cities and counties in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, Florida, New York, and Arizona have also enacted similar protections.

Axios: Democrats Chances On Flipping The House

Axios shares four points of insight from political analyst Chris Krueger regarding the fall mid-term elections.

Here’s Krueger’s upshot:

1. In the six times the president’s approval numbers were under 50% (Trump’s average is 41%), the average loss was more than 43 seats. Democrats only need to flip 24 seats.

2. Taking retirements, losing state/local tax deductions in new tax law and Trump’s severe unpopularity, California could lose half its Republican delegation.

Also, with Pennsylvania’s new redistricting map, Republicans could lose six seats there.

Those two states alone get the Dems halfway to 24.

3. Krueger points out that suburban voters could be a key part of the fall elections. There are 23 Republicans in districts Hillary Clinton won and most of those are suburban.

4. And finally, just as Obama’s 2008 coalition didn’t come out in droves in the 2010 mid-terms, it’s very possible that Trump voters may not show up without The Donald on the ballot.

All of these are very valid points. But, of course, I get nervous and superstitious.

I want us all to not take much of that to heart and get out and vote like there’s no tomorrow come the fall.
