Out Music: Matt Zarley Feels The Pull Of Sara Bareilles’ “Gravity”

Matt Zarley

Out singer/songwriter Matt Zarley drops his new music video for “Gravity” and we have the exclusive premiere.

The track comes from Zarley’s latest album titled, The Estrogen Sessions, which honors of the female pop divas most influential in his career.

About recording “Gravity:”

This is one of my all-time favorite songs and it was the first song I actually recorded for the album.

Fast forward eight or so months later, I go back to revisit the song, listen to it, make any little changes that I needed to, but I wasn’t able to access the files. The hard drive was corrupted. So I had to re-sing the song. I was not that upset because I love this song so much, so I was game for it.

At the end of the session I went to save the files and my computer froze. Well, I felt pretty confident that the session was going to be saved. I was wrong the entire session was gone.

I was so livid that I decided to re-record the song then and there. It was 2 AM.

In the end it actually turned out better than before, so all ends well.

About the music video:

“Originally we had planned out a whole narrative to drive the music video but after shooting the loft footage, I decided for a more minimal approach and let the song itself tell the story. The song has always had an ethereal quality to it…very haunting. I wanted that to take the focus.”

Stripped down and primarily acoustic, Zarley’s production work on the project showcases the strength of the songwriting and his own effortless vocals.

“As I began to arrange these tunes, I made a conscience decision to strip the songs down and reinterpret them with all live music, nothing programmed – real piano, organ, guitar, drums, bass and strings,” says Zarley.

The entire album is imminently listenable. The emotional landscape is soulful and wide, with each track showcasing Zarley’s rich, fluid voice. He shifts from plaintive, affecting intimacy to expansive vocal brawn with equal ease.

Check out more from the album here and you can get the first look at “Gravity” below.

Texas: Mass Shooting At High School Outside Houston Leaves At Least 8 Dead

A mass shooting at a high school outside Houston, Texas, has left at least 8 people dead and a suspect, 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis, in custody.

From The New York Times:

Here’s what we know:

• The Santa Fe Independent School District said in a tweet that “explosive devices” had been found both on the campus and in surrounding areas.

• The school district said the situation at the school, in Santa Fe, Tex., began at about 7:45 a.m. Friday, just after the start of the school day.

• Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of Harris County said it appeared that “eight to 10” people had been killed, most of them students. None of the victims were immediately identified.

The Parkland high school students, who know a thing or two about mass shootings at schools, tweeted their support and predicted what’s to come from this new gun massacre.

Emma Gonzalez rightfully points out that “thoughts and prayers” won’t be enough; David Hogg warned of politicians who “act like they give a shit” when they’re just looking out for approval numbers; and Cameron Kasky warns that students who rise up with be called “crisis actors.”

Trailer: “Deadpool 2”

Deadpool (L) and Colossus (R) in “Deadpool 2”

One of the things I love about Deadpool (and all things related) is that most folks don’t know who in hell this “superhero” is.

But Ryan Reynolds and the team behind the films have created this perfect force you kinda can’t resist.

So irreverent, so sassy. That’s our Deadpool.

And the upcoming sequel features not only a bisexual character, Shatterstar, but a lesbian couple.

X-man Negasonic Teenage Warhead (played by Brianna Hildebrand) introduces us to her girlfriend and fellow mutant Yukio (played by Shioli Kutsuna).

More heroes! More diversity!

Check out the new trailer for Deadpool 2 in theaters today, May 18.

White House Weighs In On #Yanny Vs. #Laurel Debate

With the current ongoing viral debate surrounding #Laurel vs. #Yanny, the White House has put out a light-hearted video in which Kellyanne Conway, Mike Pence, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and even Donald Trump weigh in with their opinions.

Trump, ever the maverick, hears something completely different.

Unhinged Trump Supporter Harasses Trans Woman In Restaurant Bathroom On Facebook Live

Jazmina Saavedra (L) harassed an unidentified trans woman

A transgender woman using the restroom at a Los Angeles Denny’s restaurant found herself being harassed by a wanna-be Republican Congressional candidate who broadcast the encounter on Facebook Live.

Jazmina Saavedra, a Republican running to represent California’s 44th Congressional district, clearly thought she was going to make some kind of a name for herself in Trump Land by attacking transgender people.

Armed with a selfie stick to make sure her face was clearly seen and proudly sporting her Trump sweatshirt, Saavedra barged into the bathroom attacking the unidentified woman. As she enters the restroom, the restaurant manager is already inside the ladies’ restroom, outside the stall where the trans woman is trying to do her business in peace.

“Why are you using the ladies’ room?” Saavedra demands to know. The trans woman in the stall shouts back, “You guys are harassing me…you’re invading my privacy,”

“You’re invading my privacy because I’m a woman!” Saavedra responds.

As the manager removed Saavedra from the restroom, the would-be politician candidate yells, “You violated my rights! You’re sick. Stupid, sick!”

“This is so stupid in California. You let people say, ‘I’m a lady.’ He’s a man,” Saavedra ranted as she made her way back into the restaurant, still broadcasting on Facebook. “This is so stupid in California. This is what the politicians, the sick politicians, approve. They put us in danger, a woman like me.”

The great irony here is it is the trans woman who is in danger; it is the trans woman’s privacy being invaded; and it’s the trans woman who merely wants to answer nature’s call and go about her life.

Trans woman trying to leave restaurant after being harassed

As the transgender woman was exiting the restaurant she addressed Saavedra asking, “Excuse me, I was using the toilet, how was I invading your privacy? Why are you singling me out, lady? And I’ve seen you yesterday following me.”

“Next time use the men’s room,” Saavedra hissed back. “Or nobody’s room. A transgender room.”

The Democratic congresswoman Saavedra is attempting to unseat is Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragan, who denounced Saavedra’s actions in a statement: “I was appalled by the treatment that this woman received for simply trying to use the restroom. Everyone has the right to their own identity, and the right not to be discriminated against for who they are.”

Behavior like this from a Trump supporter isn’t news to those who have watched the Trump/Pence administration attack and dismantle rights and protections for transgender individuals. This includes:

• Rolling back guidance that directed schools to recognize a student’s gender identity

• Proposing a ban on transgender military service members

• Revoking regulations that protect trans people from health care discrimination

• Making changes to prison guidelines on where to house trans prisoners

The Advocate contacted Saavedra who held tight to her declaration that she felt she was in danger.

“I was feeling afraid of being inside the bathroom with a man,” she told The Advocate. “I didn’t know he was gay, I just heard the voice was a man. Another customer approached me and said that they were scared to go into the restroom because there was a voice of a man inside, and so I told the manager.”

Watching the video below, Saavedra doesn’t look very “scared.”

As has been widely covered by the press, there has never been a reported incident of a transgender person attacking or harassing anyone in a bathroom anywhere in the country. Ever.

Even in this recorded video, it is Saavedra who is stalking the trans woman.

Celebrating International Masturbation Month

Did you know that May is International Masturbation Month?

If not, no worries – there’s still time to catch up.

IMM was first observed as National Masturbation Day on May 7, 1995, when San Francisco based sex shop, Good Vibrations, declared the day in response to the firing of Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders. Edler had been sacked by then-President Bill Clinton for daring to promote the notion that masturbation be a part of sex education for public school students.

Sexual health and wellness company Tenga decided a survey was needed to ask the important questions about masturbation – who, what, why and when?

The poll included more than 13,000 respondents aged 13-74 in 18 countries.

Some of the more interesting bits of data show:

• Men are far more likely to masturbate than women – 92% to 76% respectively.

• 39% of Americans masturbate on at least a weekly basis. Only 39%?

• Men in general pleasure themselves 4.8 times a week. Only 4.8 times a week?

• Men who are 18-34 years old masturbate 5.3 times a week; 35-54 years old tend to masturbate an average of 3.8 times per week; and men 55+ masturbate an average of 4.4 times per week.

• Around the world, gay and bisexual individuals are 23% more likely to masturbate weekly than heterosexual folks. Duh – No surprise there…

• 76% of gay/bisexual folks are open to chat about masturbation as opposed to only 42% of heterosexuals. Double-duh…

• 55% of Americans don’t talk about masturbation.

• Guys who are open to owning sex toys say they are more satisfied with the quality/frequency of masturbation vs. men who are not open (88% vs 62%).

• The award for #NoShocker goes to: Men are much more likely than women to watch porn when they masturbate while women use their imagination.

• Liberals are more likely (89%) to say they’ve masturbated compared to 82% of conservatives.

Trailer: Reboot Of CBS’ Hit Sitcom “Murphy Brown”

Candice Bergen as “Murphy Brown”

Obviously the most tantalizing flavor in TV programming today is the ubiquitous “reboot.”

What with Will & Grace and Roseanne back on the boards, I guess it was a matter of time before we’d see 90s fave Murphy Brown on the comeback trail.

Via Entertainment Weekly:

In the original, Candice Bergen’s Brown anchored a primetime news magazine. This time, she’s going to be hosting a show called Murphy in the Morning. Her biggest competitor will be her own son (played by Limitless actor Jake McDorman)— who’s hosting his own conservative morning news show. When executives were asked if the setup was supposed to mirror the MSNBC/Fox News Morning Joe vs. Fox & Friends rivalry, they confirmed that was a fitting comparison.

“I left FYI a few years ago,” Candice Bergen says in character as Murphy Brown.

“The problem was, I didn’t know what to do with myself,” she continued. “And then, we had an election.”

Oh yes, Murphy will be going on some pretty awesome Trump tirades you can be sure 🙂

Also back for the ride are former cast members Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud. Oh! And the fab Tyne Daly is joining the cast!

I was definitely a fan back in the day. I’ll be checking out our irreverent Ms. Brown for sure.

I’ll also be checking out the oh-so-handsome Jake McDorman who’s set to play Murphy’s son, Avery.

New Music: Calum Scott “What I Miss Most”

Calum Scott

Calum Scott drops the new video for “What I Miss Most” today. Happy Dance!

Way strong track. Great hook, expansive vocals, a bit of Coldplay layering going on… If you like mainstream pop (like I do) you’ll definitely like this.

The video takes us on a bit of a time-flip from childhood to wild child teens to adulthood.

“This song is all about nostalgia and missing ‘home,’ for me that’s Hull!” says Calum.

Calum was recently honored at the British LGBT Awards. In a note to his fans, he wrote:

This award signifies to me how far I’ve come with my sexuality which is beyond what I thought I was capable of, but not only that, I feel like the album I’ve created through my own experiences is for people to use as a source of inspiration or motivation for their own battles. It gives me the greatest sense of pride, honour and responsibility and for that I want to say, thank you

DVR alert: Don’t miss Calum’s upcoming appearance on Good Morning America June 6 performing “You Are The Reason” with Leona Lewis.

Trailer: Series Finale Of Netflix’ SENSE8

Netflix serves up the final trailer for the final episode (sniff) of the beloved sci-fi series, Sense8.

For one final mission, our sensates will gather for the beginning of the end and it’s sure to have evoke plenty of feelings.

The sci-fi drama, created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, chronicles the adventures a diverse group of people who become psychically intertwined, known as sensates. Linked emotionally and mentally linked to one another, the group finds they can access each others’ strengths and abilities in times of crisis.

But the sensates quickly found themselves hunted by dark forces. And with that, we were off to the races.

Have I mentioned I loved the series?

Critics and fans alike heaped the praise on the series for its wide-ranging diversity: gender, sexuality, politics, religion… Two same-sex couples, transgender folks, everyone was represented here.

On June 8, we get to see our heroes assemble for good one last time.

Don’t mind me, I’ll just be over here crying as I watch the trailer on repeat.

NYC Lawyer Has A Problem With Speaking Spanish In Mid-Town

This video went viral yesterday showing a 30-something white male berating two women for speaking Spanish in a Manhattan lunch spot.

Again – two women having a private conversation at lunch speaking Spanish. Freedom of what?

The white guy decided you can only speak English in his presence. Even if he’s not a part of your conversation.

Watch.

It didn’t take the Twitterverse long to determine this guy happens to be New York City lawyer, Aaron Schlossberg.

And it didn’t take the New York Post and local station WPIX long to find the very opinionated Mr. Schlossberg today.

Life comes at you fast, huh, Aaron?

Heavy.com take a look into the man that is Aaron Schlossberg here.

It won’t surprise you to hear Mr. Schlossberg donated to Donald Trump’s campaign.

Intrepid Twitter folks found this older video from 2016 where Schlossberg called a complete stranger “an ugly fucking foreigner.” It seems Mr. Schlossberg likes yelling at people who are “different” from him.
