(via CNN) Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona listens as her husband, Captain Mark Kelly, speaks at his retirement ceremony Thursday with Vice President Joe Biden in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
This is Giffords’ second trip to Washington as she recovers from a gunshot to the head that left her seriously wounded in January.
Federal officials order CA pot shops to close in 45 days
Federal officials are warning California medical marijuana dispensaries they must shut down within 45 days or face criminal prosecution and having their property confiscated.
The state’s four U.S. attorneys sent letters Wednesday and Thursday notifying at least 16 pot shops or their landlords that they are violating federal drug laws, even though medical marijuana is legal in California. The attorneys are to announce their coordinated crackdown at a Friday news conference.
Letters from the U.S. attorneys state that federal law “takes precedence over state law and applies regardless of the particular uses for which a dispensary is selling pot.”
Thoughts are that a glut of wrongfully obtained medical marijuana prescriptions helped opponents of the drug push their campaign to close the shops.

Westboro Baptist idiots announce plan to picket Steve Jobs funeral – from their iPhone!
Margie Phelps has announced that the Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing the funeral of Apple cofounder Steve Jobs because he “served [him]self, not God.”
And just how did she make this announcement? By tweeting it from her Apple iPhone.
The Kansas-based organization, which has protested memorials of everyone from victims of gay bashings to those killed in the 2006 Sago Mine disaster — often times with signs stating “God Hates Fags” — has called for “no peace” for Jobs.
The Chippendales join the NOH8 Campaign

The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with “NOH8” painted on one cheek in protest.
The Chippendales recently participated in the photo campaign during a shoot in Las Vegas.
The Chippendales take part in many events throughout the year to raise awareness and support many charities like the St. Therese Center (HIV/AIDS support), S.A.F.E House (battered womens shelter), Susan G. Komen, Toys for Tots, Salvation Army, New Vista Community (dedicated to providing equal opportunities for adults and children with intellectual challenges) and various community outreach (senior centers from Prestige Assisted Living).
Chloe Lattanzi still planning to marry fiance
Chloe Lattanzi has revealed that she is still planning on marrying her fiancé James Driskill.
The Australian singer, whose mother is Grease star Olivia Newton-John, was believed to have called the wedding off after discovering that Driskill was still married and living with his first wife, but has now insisted that she didn’t feel “deceived” by him.
Lattanzi told OK! magazine: “The engagement is so on. We have had to postpone [the wedding] until [his] divorce comes through. I love him and [the scandal] wasn’t enough to throw out a whole life together. [There’s] no trust lost at all, since I was not deceived. My love goes beyond words or explanation.”
Driskill added: “Chloe understood right off the bat that it was not deliberate and that she had no reason to doubt my love for her. I told Chloe that I still lived with my ex-girlfriend and that I was moving out soon. I didn’t tell her that we were married and that was a mistake. Eventually, I had to tell her.”
Lattanzi continued by saying she found it “horrible” to discover that a so-called friend of hers had leaked the story about Driskill’s wife to the media.
“Whoever did this is no friend of mine,” she said. “I was deeply hurt, because the most wonderful man in my life was portrayed inaccurately.”

Apple’s Steve Jobs passes away
Steve Jobs, who resigned as CEO of Apple for health reasons in August, has died, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company announced Wednesday.
“We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.”
“Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives,” Apple said in a statement.
“The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts,” the statement continued.
The company’s website featured a black and white photo of Jobs Wednesday with the years 1955-2011.
“Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being,” the company’s website reads. “Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”
The company encouraged visitors to share “thoughts, memories, and condolences” by emailing rememberingsteve@apple.com.
Jobs stepped down from his position leading Apple in August, after a tumultuous period of a few years in which he battled pancreatic cancer and liver difficulties. He did retain a key role with the company, however, becoming chairman of the board two months ago.
