“I recently received the very sad news that my beautiful sister, Rona Newton-John, has been diagnosed with brain cancer.
“In light of this news, I have decided to postpone my forthcoming Las Vegas residency to spend time with her and our family.
“As a cancer ‘thriver’ myself, as many people are, I am very aware of the importance of love, support and family during this journey she is about to begin. I want to thank everyone in advance for respecting our privacy during this difficult time. “
I have personally gotten to know Rona over the past several years, and we’ve developed a close friendship between us. Rona is bright, clever, funny, warm and a delight. I care for her greatly.
I don’t ask anything of my readers very often, but if you could – please send your best thoughts Rona’s way. I personally appreciate it.
Zach Wahls destroys anti-gay Boy Scout rep on discrimination issue
Zach Wahls, super-hero and LGBT ally, destroys a very sad man, John Stemberger, who tries to “stand up” for anti-gay discrimination by the Boy Scouts of America.
The fact of the matter is no one is “promoting” any “gay agenda.” The issue with whether or not young gay men will be allowed to participate in the positive journey Scouting can have on a young man. AND whether or not a young adult Scout, after spending a decade perhaps in Boy Scouts, will be allowed to continue in service to an organization that might provide excellent opportunities to young men.
The idea that an openly gay adult male would not be able to take part as a Scout Leader – because it’s assumed they wouldn’t be able to control their ‘sexual urges’ – is reprehensible. That would be like saying straight men can’t control themselves from raping any woman on the street.
It’s simply ridiculous.
And yet you have John Stemberger telling the world that gays will “destroy” the Boy Scouts.
“Destroy” the Boy Scouts.
“Destroy.” How about that word?

My prettiest girl, Tyler, isn’t feeling well…
Ugh.
My prettiest little girl – my only girl – hasn’t eaten in a few days, and is lethargic, so Michael took her to the vet. She has to stay over night for observation and fluids as she’s dehydrated from some reason.
Tyler is wonderful and light and happy all the time. She’s a bit ‘challenged’ but we’ve never cared about that – she’s our “prettiest” and we love her completely. My concern is she’s never been away from the family over night and she won’t understand all this.
I’m probably being overly nervous. But I’m not good with one of our kids away from home.
And uncomfortable.
And maybe scared.
I’ll be happier when she’s home tomorrow.
Please think some good thoughts. I love her very much.

North Dakota: News anchor debut doesn’t go so well
In the news business, you always assume your mic is on.
Always.

Last night was A.J. Clemente’s first night at the anchor desk for Bismarck NBC affiliate KFYR. Things did not go well for A.J. as you see in the video above. His first words on the air were “f**kin shit.” Oops.
Here’s how things went down after that:
• Update (9:10 p.m.): A.J.’s been suspended.
• Update (11:12 p.m.): Here’s how KFYR opened their 10 p.m. newscast, sans A.J. and with an apology:
• Update (12:04 p.m.): A.J. has been fired.

France: Thousands rally in support of marriage equality
From the YouTube description: Thousands gathered on Sunday at the Plac de la Bastille in Paris to show their support for a new bill to legalise gay marriage. The gathering took place at the same time as opponents of the legislation marched towards the National Assembly.
France’s LGBT community accuse those who oppose the law of being homophobic. They say a nation such as France, whose national motto is “liberty, equality and fraternity,” should not question the need for such a law.
Reese Witherspoon to police officer: “Do you know my name?”
Reese Witherspoon apparently got into a bit of trouble last Friday as her husband was stopped by a police officer for driving while intoxicated after apparently swerving in and out of his lane.
Husband Jim Toth blew 0.139 on the Breathalyzer test, the report said, and was charged with driving under the influence.
During the traffic stop, reports say Witherspoon got out of her car more than once after being told to stay put by the officer. Eventually, the “Walk The Line” star addressed the officer and said “Do you know my name?” She also said: “You’re about to find out who I am” and “You’re about to be on national news,” according to the report.
Oh dear. No one ever comes out on the other side of that line well, do they?
Reese was charged with disorderly conduct. She has since stated “I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said.”

Head of French Parliament sent threatening letter containing gun powder over marriage equality
The head of French parliament is being terrorized over the coming gay marriage vote on Tuesday, The Local reports:
Claude Bartolone, the Socialist president of France’s Assemblée Nationale (lower house of parliament) on Monday received a threatening letter containing gunpowder and demanding he defer a parliamentary vote, expected to definitively legalize gay marriage on Tuesday.
The one-page letter, signed by “an intermediary of law enforcement,” warns Bartolone that “our methods are more radical and more swift than protests”, according to French magazine L’Express.
The document concludes with the statement “You wanted war, and you’ve got it.”
Oh, Brian Brown (of NOM), you were saying something about “peaceful demonstrations” by the folks on YOUR side of the marriage equality issue?

France: Tens of thousands protest against marriage equality
Anti-gay protesters crowded the streets of Paris today ahead of a French parliament vote on Tuesday in which it is expected to adopt marriage equality, Deutsche Welle reports:
Protest organizers said between 30,000 and 50,000 people took part in the demonstration in the Montparnasse area of Paris on Sunday. A rival protest in support of the legislation was also held on Sunday but gathered fewer participants.
Two thousand security officers were on hand to ensure the throngs remained peaceful after demonstrations earlier in the week led to a bit of violence.
Protests were held three nights running, from Wednesday to Friday, and some of the hard-core opponents clashed with police. More than 100 arrests were made throughout the week.

In a series of guerrilla actions, activists opposed to the bill have staged dawn protests outside ministers’ homes, vandalised cars, assaulted journalists and even blocked a fast train carrying a prominent gay marriage campaigner. One Socialist MP received death threats, and there are reports that two attacks on gay bars, one in Bordeaux and the other in Lille, were linked to rising anti-gay sentiment fed by the protests. So why the explosive outrage in the land of liberty, fraternity and equality?
Some argue that it is simply part of a wider backlash against what is seen as a corrupt, incompetent political class, prompted by Mr Hollande’s inability to tackle unemployment and the discovery that the government’s tax tsar had a secret Swiss bank account.
But the French Right has seized on the gay marriage issue to rally its demoralised electorate. Given the mess that Mr Hollande’s Socialist administration is making of the economy, Right wingers argue, the Left has no right to legislate on moral issues as well.
To be clear, France is not polarized. There is just a very vocal minority that doesn’t want to see the LGBT community receive certain rights making itself heard.
This bill is about another minority – the LGBT community – who should have the same rights to marriage as their straight brothers and sisters. It’s simply about equality. About being fair.

The Civil War in America was one of the bloodiest in our history, and it was fought in part about the equality of a section of society. A minority.Violence or not, it didn’t change the truth. It was right that that minority group achieved equality, just as the LGBT community deserves equality.
Period.
Scream, haters. Yell. It won’t make you right. And the more violence you demonstrate shows your true colors.
