ABC News reports that Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) is suspending her campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination and will endorse former Vice President Joe Biden.
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, has suspended her campaign Monday following an underdog third place finish in the New Hampshire primary and two sixth place finishes in Nevada and South Carolina — two states with substantially more diverse electorates.
The Klobuchar campaign confirmed to ABC News that the senator is flying to Dallas to join former Vice President Joe Biden at his rally Monday night where she will suspend her campaign and endorse him.
Hours before news of her dismal finish in South Carolina, Klobuchar told reporters following a Super Tuesday rally in Richmond, Virginia, that her campaign had been approaching the race “state by state” because of lack of funding.
Madonna rests up over Thanksgiving holiday (image via Instagram) Madonna’s Madame X tour officially closes on March 11 and you have to imagine Madge can’t wait for that date to arrive. After taking a hard fall on stage at Le Grand Rex in Paris last Thursday, the Queen of Pop needed assistance from one of her dancers to hobble off-stage. The injury forced Madonna to cancel her Sunday night performance. She reached out to fans via Instagram to explain the situation:
Here I Am – Flesh and Blood. If only knees didn’t twist and cartilage didn’t tear and nothing hurt and tears never fell out of our eyes………But alas they do and Thank God for this important reminder that we are human.
I Fell 2 nights ago on stage when a chair was literally pulled out from underneath me by mistake and I landed on the floor on my tail bone. I made it thru the show last night but just barely because I hate disappointing. However today even I can see that this broken doll held together with tape and glue, needs to stay in bed and rest for a few days so she can finish the tour with a smile on her face and in one piece.
Since the launch of the Madame X tour last September, Madonna has canceled 13 performances. Most of the cancellations were injury-related, although two performances suffered from production issues. Along the way, she’s shared that a knee injury sustained during rehearsals has been the source of “unbearable pain” and has posted several pics and videos of post-show ice baths. Show business is hard, y’all.
The cast of ‘After Forever’ (via Instagram) Join me as I chat with the Emmy Award-winning creators of the Amazon Prime Video digital series, After Forever. After Forever stars Kevin Spirtas (Dr. Craig Wesley on Days of Our Lives) and Mitchell Anderson (Doogie Howser, Party of Five) as a mid-life gay couple living in New York City who appear to have it all — until Jason’s untimely death forces Brian to think about his own future and ultimately his own mortality, without the love of his life. As Brian puts his life back together, Jason periodically appears to help him focus on his new life and moving on, most notably with his new boyfriend. Spritas co-created and co-wrote the series with acclaimed playwright Michael Slade. After Forever also stars familiar faces from TV, film and Broadway stages like Colleen Zenk (As the World Turns), Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), Anita Gillette (Chapter Two), Mary Beth Peil (Dawson’s Creek), and Tony Award winner Cady Huffman (The Producers). The lauded series features a diverse group of characters who find their way through life’s constant changes, including relationships, love, and loss, in an often overlooked group – the mature gay man. L-R Mitchell Anderson and Kevin Spirtas in ‘After Forever’ Season One of After Forever was nominated for 8 Emmy Awards and won five including Outstanding Digital Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Digital Drama Series, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Ind., who rose from virtual anonymity to become the first openly gay candidate to make a high-profile run for the Democratic presidential nomination, has announced he is ending his bid for the White House.
The development marks an abrupt end to what was briefly an ascendant candidacy, as Buttigieg won the Iowa caucuses and came in second in New Hampshire. But despite attracting enormous attention, significant support and sometimes enthusiastic crowds, there was no clear path forward toward the nomination.
Buttigieg’s decision comes shortly before Super Tuesday, the biggest primary day of the year, at a time when the Democratic race shows signs of becoming a race between Sen. Bernie Sanders and former vice president Joe Biden, with Biden occupying a centrist position that Buttigieg had hoped to make his own.
If there was one vulnerability that felled him, it was his inability to win trust or support from black voters, a key pillar of the Democratic coalition.
After a fourth-place finish in South Carolina Saturday — and results that showed he achieved abysmal levels of support with black voters–Buttigieg consulted with his team Saturday night before flying to Georgia to meet with former President Jimmy Carter Sunday. His campaign scheduled a Sunday night call for donors and did not provide a subject.
By the time all the votes were counted in South Carolina, Buttigieg had only garnered 3 percent of the Black vote in the Palmetto State, according to the Washington Post. Buttigieg is to be lauded that, in looking forward, he saw no path for winning the nomination and understood his leaving the race could benefit former Vice President Joe Biden – another candidate with which Buttigieg shared the ‘moderate’ lane. MSNBC is reporting Buttigieg decided he didn’t want to be the guy to keep a stronger nominee who the Democratic party could rally around from getting the nomination. Many of the talking heads on TV are speculating as to whether the vote-counting debacle in Iowa, which caused the results to be delayed for days, might have muddied his historic achievement and perhaps hurt his candidacy to some extent. Had he gotten the ‘clean win’ would that perhaps have propelled him to besting Sanders in New Hampshire where, instead, he came in second? We’ll never know. Watch an emotional Chasten Buttigieg introduce his husband Pete for his speech to supporters last night.
As an openly gay man, I have to say the Harvard educated/Rhodes scholar has been a more-than-worthy candidate to represent the LGBTQ community in his historic run. Initially seen as a longshot candidate, he ultimately found himself running with the big dogs, going toe-to-toe with U.S. senators with much higher name recognition and decades of experience in Washington, D.C. The “left-handed, Maltese-American, Episcopalian, gay millennial-war veteran” has presented himself well with dignity, poise, and grace. When asked by a nine-year-old supporter for advice on coming out, Pete said “when I was trying to figure out who I was, I was afraid that who I was might mean that I could never make a difference. And what wound up happening instead is that it’s a huge part of the difference I get to make.” I certainly see a bright future for Buttigieg – hopefully in Joe Biden’s administration. On the day of his announcement, I shared this photo on social media writing, “If I tried I could never fully express what THIS really means to me. Every day I celebrate possibilities…” I still feel the same way. Pete and Chasten Buttigieg
DIIMOND in ‘Bad Attitude’ Take some Billie Holiday, throw in a good amount of Prince and a dash of Sylvester, and you get a sense of where pop/R&B singer DIIMOND’s new music video, “Bad Attitude,” is going. The genderfluid artist sings of regret and frustration after being beaten, yet again, by his possessive manager, Damion. Directed by Leo Ramsey, the video is the first in a planned Neo-noir musical miniseries titled, “The Truth About Fairy Tales,” a story of control, manipulation, emotional abuse, and shattered dreams. Via press release:
Starring DIIMOND and actor Emrhys Cooper, and set in the hard-partying Hollywood nightclub scene, “The Truth About Fairy Tales” tells the true story of a struggling music artist (DIIMOND), whose life becomes intoxicatingly glamorous upon meeting his Prince Charming manager/producer, Damion (Cooper).
But living the romantic show biz dream soon becomes a living hell. Pretty boy Damion is exposed as the Ike to DIIMOND’s Tina Turner. Imprisoned, abused, and at the mercy of Damion’s drug-fueled rage and self-hatred, a shaken and terrified DIIMOND takes his revenge.
The storyline is apparently based on a bleak period in the life of the award-winning recording artist and former American Idol (Season 4) and America’s Got Talent (Season 6) contestant. You might recognize Cooper from his award-winning short film, Trophy Boy, which I covered here. Check out “Bad Attitude” below, then click here for more information about the musical miniseries.
(image via Instagram) Checking in the Hunks of Insta this weekend. Brandon Osorio (above) got romantical with his boo: “Call Me by Your Name, but more Jewish and a little Cuban.” Woofy Joe Blizzard got some Sunday morning puppy love:
Within seconds of the polls closing, several networks immediately announced former Vice President Joe Biden as the winner of the South Carolina Democratic primary. Those announcements were based on exit polls, so you know they had to lean heavily in Biden’s favor. Several important demographics went Biden’s way including 60 percent of Black voters, 57 percent of voters 65 or older, 52 percent of moderates and 48 percent who chose on the basis of electability. My questions now are: can Biden win by the 86k votes needed to take the popular vote lead? And can he win by the 30 delegates needed to take the overall delegate lead? Both are possible. I’ll update once the vote count is announced. From here, Biden has to hope to be viable (get at least 15%) in California so Sen. Bernie Sanders doesn’t gain a huge numbers advantage.
A new poll by Fox News got Donald Trump uber-angry as the results showed all six Democratic candidates beating him in hypothetical head-to-head match-ups. Biden and Bloomberg both beat the Donald by 8 points. Sanders trumped Trump by 7 points. The other three candidates were ahead of Trump but within the margin of error for the poll: Warren (+3 points), Buttigieg (+3) and Klobuchar (+1). In each scenario, however, there are enough undecided/third-party voters to move the race either way. Additionally, 56% of respondents believe Trump will be elected versus 34% who did not. Ten percent were unsure.
Worst Polls, just like in 2016 when they were so far off the mark, are the @FoxNews Polls. Why doesn’t Fox finally get a competent Polling Company?
While fears and the number of coronavirus cases keep growing, Donald Trump held a rally and Mike Pence – who the president put in charge of the government’s response – held a fundraiser. There are now 64 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States (over 85,000 worldwide) and the stock market lost over 3,500 points in one week, but Trump told his rally attendees that rising fears about the impending crisis is merely a ‘hoax’ brought by the Democrats. “Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus,” Trump said. “They have no clue, they can’t even count their votes in Iowa.” “This is their new hoax,” Trump continued, adding that attacking Trump’s response to the coronavirus is now the Democratic Party’s “single talking point.” Watch the brief report from Brian Williams below.
