Trump Celebrates His Summit Meeting With His Boss

Donald Trump seems to be in a parallel universe celebrating his 'summit meeting' with Russian President Putin as the rest of the world was horrified at Trump throwing his own intelligence agencies under the bus in favor of the Russian president

Over on Earth Two, Donald Trump celebrated his (widely-panned) performance at his press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Meanwhile, former CIA director John Brennan had a different take on Trump’s performance in Helsinki:

New Trailer For ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Puts Freddie Mercury’s

Rami Malek as “Freddie Mercury”

“Roger, there’s only room in this band for one hysterical queen.”

Many were surprised by the so-called “straight-washing” of Freddie Mercury’s personal life in the first trailer for the upcoming, Bohemian Rhapsody.

Those folks will be pleased that the second trailer gives us more personal insight to the legendary frontman’s audacity and bisexual authenticity.

The official synopsis:

Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury.

Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet.

The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career.

Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music.

Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.

Hillary Clinton Asks ‘What Team’ Donald Trump Plays For

After Donald Trump's disastrous press conference where he sided with Russia rather than the United States regarding Russian meddling in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton wondered on Twitter which team Trump plays for....?
Hillary Clinton

As Donald Trump headed into his much-anticipated meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hillary Clinton tweeted congrats to the World Cup finals players as well as a question for her former presidential campaign rival.

“Do you know which team you play for?” she tweeted.

Monday evening following the summit, Clinton followed-up: “Well, now we know.”

Trump received broad criticism from Democrats and Republicans for his feckless comments about Putin and the US intelligence assessment of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Congress Responds To Trump’s Woeful Putin Press Conference

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan

After Donald Trump’s embarrassing performance at a press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin today in Helsinki, some Congressional leaders are speaking out.

Some are more forceful than others.

We have this feckless drivel from Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan via press release:

“There is no question that Russia interfered in our election and continues attempts to undermine democracy here and around the world. That is not just the finding of the American intelligence community but also the House Committee on Intelligence. The president must appreciate that Russia is not our ally. There is no moral equivalence between the United States and Russia, which remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals. The United States must be focused on holding Russia accountable and putting an end to its vile attacks on democracy.”

There’s this from Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R) who basically sidesteps the issue of Trump:

“The Senate Intelligence Committee has reviewed the 2017 IC (intelligence community) assessment and found no reason to doubt its conclusion that President Putin ordered an influence campaign aimed at the 2016 U.S. elections with the goal of undermining faith in our democratic process. Russia has conducted a coordinated cyberattack on state election systems, and hacked critical infrastructure. They have used social media to sow chaos and discord in our society.

“They have beaten and harassed U.S. diplomats and violated anti-proliferation treaties. Any statement by Vladimir Putin contrary to these facts is a lie and should be recognized as one by the President.

“Vladimir Putin is not our friend and never has been. Nor does he want to be our friend. His regime’s actions prove it. We must make clear that the United States will not tolerate hostile Russian activities against us or our allies.”

On the other side of the aisle, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York (D) offered this:

“What could possibly cause President Trump to put the interests of Russia over those of the United States? Millions of Americans will continue to wonder if the only possible explanation for this dangerous behavior is the possibility that President Putin holds damaging information over President Trump. For the president of the United States to side with President Putin against American law enforcement, American defense officials, and American intelligence agencies is thoughtless, dangerous, and weak. The president is putting himself over our country.”

Gay Republican Fired For Calling Police On Woman Using A Coupon

After a CVS Health store manager called the Chicago police on a black woman who was merely trying to use a manufacturer's coupon, the drug store chain has announced the manager and his assistant have been fired for their discriminatory actions.

After a CVS Health store manager called the Chicago police on a black woman who was merely trying to use a manufacturer’s coupon, the drug store chain has announced the manager and his assistant have been fired for their discriminatory actions.

Here’s CVS’s statement issued today via Chicago’s :

“We have sincerely apologized to Ms. Hudson for her experience in one of our Chicago stores. Our Region Director in Chicago contacted her as soon as we were made aware of this incident. We have completed our investigation, and as a result the two colleagues who were involved are no longer employed by CVS Health. CVS Health does not tolerate any practices that discriminate against any customer and we are committed to maintaining a welcoming and diverse environment in our stores. We have firm non-discrimination policies in place to help ensure that all customers are treated with respect and dignity. Profiling or any other type of discriminatory behavior is strictly prohibited.”

Last week I reported on the incident where Camilla Hudson tried to use the coupon at the CVS on North Broadway near Loyola University.

Hudson captured the incident on cellphone video and posted it to her Facebook page. The video shows manager Morry Matson literally shaking as he calls 911.

Matson told her Hudson wouldn’t accept the coupon and accused her of forging the coupon.

Matson says he was a delegate for President Trump during his 2016 campaign and is running for alderman of Chicago’s 48th Ward.

Shortly after the incident was reported and went viral, Matson’s campaign site went dark.

Matson was also the president of the Illinois chapter of Log Cabin Republicans.

But according to a statement given to BlockClubChicago by Gregory T. Angelo, national president of the Log Cabin Republicans, the Illinois state charter has been revoked.

Log Cabin Republicans Chapter Leaders have a duty to conduct themselves in a manner becoming of an organization advocating equality and inclusion of all Americans — whether or not they are acting in an official capacity on behalf of LCR or otherwise. As news articles highlighting Mr. Matson’s actions from this past weekend show, not doing so can have detrimental consequences not only for individual Chapters, but for the national organization as a whole. As such, the provisional charter afforded to LCR Illinois under its newly reconstituted leadership has been terminated.

Sen. John McCain On Trump: “The Most Disgraceful Performance By An American President In Memory”

Sen. John McCain of Arizona (R)

Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has issued a scathing rebuke of Donald Trump’s statements made at a joint press conference today with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During the presser, Trump publicly disregarded the reports of U.S. intelligence agencies and accepted the denials of Vladimir Putin on Russian election meddling.

McCain’s statement:

“Today’s press conference in Helsinki was one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory. The damage inflicted by President Trump’s naiveté, egotism, false equivalence, and sympathy for autocrats is difficult to calculate. But it is clear that the summit in Helsinki was a tragic mistake.

“President Trump proved not only unable, but unwilling to stand up to Putin. He and Putin seemed to be speaking from the same script as the president made a conscious choice to defend a tyrant against the fair questions of a free press, and to grant Putin an uncontested platform to spew propaganda and lies to the world.

“It is tempting to describe the press conference as a pathetic rout – as an illustration of the perils of under-preparation and inexperience. But these were not the errant tweets of a novice politician. These were the deliberate choices of a president who seems determined to realize his delusions of a warm relationship with Putin’s regime without any regard for the true nature of his rule, his violent disregard for the sovereignty of his neighbors, his complicity in the slaughter of the Syrian people, his violation of international treaties, and his assault on democratic institutions throughout the world.

“Coming close on the heels of President Trump’s bombastic and erratic conduct towards our closest friends and allies in Brussels and Britain, today’s press conference marks a recent low point in the history of the American Presidency. That the president was attended in Helsinki by a team of competent and patriotic advisors makes his blunders and capitulations all the more painful and inexplicable.

“No prior president has ever abased himself more abjectly before a tyrant. Not only did President Trump fail to speak the truth about an adversary; but speaking for America to the world, our president failed to defend all that makes us who we are—a republic of free people dedicated to the cause of liberty at home and abroad. American presidents must be the champions of that cause if it is to succeed. Americans are waiting and hoping for President Trump to embrace that sacred responsibility. One can only hope they are not waiting totally in vain.”

Philadelphia: Judge Rules Against Adoption Agency Requesting Religious Exemption To Discriminate

A federal judge has ruled against a Catholic adoption agency for discriminating against perspective LGBTQ parents

Two Christian adoption agencies in Philadelphia saw their city contracts suspended earlier this year when it was discovered they openly discriminated against LGBTQ people.

One of the agencies, Bethany Christian Services, agreed to change its policies and comply, but Catholic Social Services (CSS) refused to do so claiming their constitutional rights were being violated in having to adhere to anti-discrimination laws.

Now, a federal judge has ruled against CSS’s request for a religious exemption to the law.

CSS freely admits that they do not certify same-sex couples as foster parents even if the couple is considered qualified by every metric of the law. Additionally, CSS continues to refuse home studies for those same-sex couples who may be looking to adopt.

The vice president of CSS, James Amato, told the judge that everyone who applies to be a foster parent must submit a letter from the applicant’s clergy declaring them to be ‘religious.’

CSS holds the position that foster care and adoption are not ‘public accommodations’ and so the anti-discrimination law doesn’t apply to them.

But U.S. District Judge Petrese Tucker disagreed with CSS and rejected the agency’s arguments saying CSS’s contract with the city to provide services for a fee constitutes a public accommodation.

Moreover, the judge held that CSS’s loss of its contract with the city would not negatively impact foster children as the city “offered evidence showing that the closure of CSS’s intake of new referrals has had little or no effect on the operation of Philadelphia’s foster care system,” Judge Tucker wrote.

Also, the judge pointed to the “clergy letter” requirement and suggested that raised “serious constitutional questions” regarding freedom of religion.

As Think Progress points out, this kind of “religious freedom” defense for justifying LGBTQ discrimination is happening all over the country.

A judge in Michigan is currently hearing arguments over a state law that allows adoption agencies to receive state funding while actively discriminating.

Oklahoma and Kansas have recently enacted similar laws, and House Republicans in Congress recently approved an amendment to a spending bill that would protect adoption agencies that choose to discriminate based on ‘religious beliefs.’

This same week, a federal judge was hearing arguments in the ACLU’s challenge of a Michigan law that guarantees adoption agencies can continue to receive state funding even if they discriminate.

Kansas and Oklahoma recently passed similar laws, and Republicans in Congress also passed an amendment to a funding bill this week that would create a similar license to discriminate for child placement agencies across the country.

In related news, a recent study in Italy shows children fare well with same-sex parents.

Donald Trump Throws His Own Intelligence Agencies Under The Bus For Putin

Donald Trump is being heavily criticized for siding with Russia over U.S. intelligence agencies

Absolutely stunning display of anti-American behavior by a U.S. president.

Standing on the same stage as Russian President Putin, Donald Trump says he takes the word of Putin over his own intelligence agencies regarding the election interference in 2016.

Last week, the Special Counsel’s investigation indicted 12 Russian agents who were found to have hacked and interfered in the presidential race in 2016, but today Trump told the world that if Putin denies ordering the disruption into our democracy, then he believes the Russian president.

Stunning.

When a respected journalist like Anderson Cooper leads with, “You have been watching perhaps one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president at a summit in front of a Russian leader certainly than I’ve ever seen,” you know something astonishing has happened.

Even Fox News anchors were critical of the Donald’s performance today.

Parody: Randy Rainbow “A Very Stable Genius”

New Randy Rainbow! Squeeee!

This time, Randy offers his parody of “I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General,” a patter song from Gilbert and Sullivan’s 1879 comic opera The Pirates of Penzance.

In Mr. Rainbow’s iteration, though, we are discussing Donald Trump being “A Very Stable Gen-i-us.”

Very clever lyrics. Watch below and Happy Monday!
