As the Trump tariffs begin to take effect, some online retailers have considered tacking the tariffs directly onto orders as an import charge. Amazon reportedly considered the idea for its ultra-cheap Amazon Haul site, but didn’t move forward.
From NBC News:
Amazon on Tuesday said that it had considered listing tariff charges on Amazon Haul, its discount platform meant to compete with low-cost Chinese e-commerce companies like Temu and Shein, but has decided against it.
An Amazon spokesperson told NBC News: “The team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store considered the idea of listing import charges on certain products. This was never approved and is not going to happen.”
Meanwhile, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked about Amazon considering the move, and she practically came unglued calling the idea (which Amazon is not implementing) a “hostile, political act by Amazon.”
REPORTER: Amazon will soon display a number next to the price of each product that shows how much the Trump tariffs are adding. Isn’t that a perfect demonstration that it’s the American consumer who is paying for these policies?

Trump reportedly called Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos this morning and warned against adding the line-item. Of course, what the White House is really mad about is how adding the taxes as a separate “import charge” would make clear how the Trump tariffs will impact customers.
However, Chinese online retailer Temu has decided to line-item the tariffs as part of customers check-out tagged as “import charges.” It’s amazing how much a 145% tariff kicks up prices.
Chinese online retailer Temu, known for its ultra-low prices, is hitting U.S. customers with hefty import charges due to President Trump’s tariffs.

#inners #maddow#DemsUnited Here’s the proof. This gentleman was buying a dress for his grandmother marked down to $19. When he checked out, Temu charged him a $31.44 import fee. $54 for a $19 dress. TARIFFS, not an import fee. pic.twitter.com/6jCYppM3S2

A friend of mine posted this
Total Temu purchase: $105. Import charges (tariff) is higher than the items: $147. And this helps the economy…. how? Guess I’ll keep these items in my cart until we have sanity in WA DC again. pic.twitter.com/epL7LWXZEE — Meidas_Charise Lee (@charise_lee) April 28, 2025
