Trump: Video Noting Military Can Refuse Illegal Orders Is ‘Punishable By Death’

Donald Trump took to his failing Truth Social platform to declare a video message from a group of Democratic congressional veterans is “seditious” and “punishable by death.”

It all began when six Democratic veterans posted a video on X on Tuesday reminding members of the intelligence and military communities that “no one has to carry out orders that violate the law or our Constitution.”

“This administration is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens,” the video continues. “Like us, you all swore an oath to protect and defend this constitution.”

Summarizing their message, the veterans add, “Our laws are clear. You can refuse illegal orders … you must refuse illegal orders.”

The lawmakers, veterans of the Navy, CIA, Air Force and Army Rangers, include: Sens. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Reps. Jason Crow (D-CO), Maggie Goodlander (D-NH), Chris Deluzio (D-PA), and Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA).

According to the National Lawyers Guild Military Law Task Force, members of the military “have the right, and in some cases have the duty, to refuse illegal orders.”

In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, Rep. Crow said that the video was just a “simple reminder … about their legal obligations.”

Then came Trump’s outrage.

From Axios:

The call represents an escalation of violent rhetoric towards Trump’s perceived political enemies, and comes at a time when the president is using the military in unprecedented ways both domestically and internationally.

“This is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Thursday.

“Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???”

Another post made just over an hour later used similar language. In that post, Trump wrote: “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH.”
