Donald Trump was booed at his own rally Saturday in Alabama after he encouraged a largely maskless crowd of supporters they should get vaccinated against COVID-19. From NBC News:
“And you know what? I believe totally in your freedoms. I do. You’ve got to do what you have to do,” Trump said. “But I recommend take the vaccines. I did it. It’s good. Take the vaccines.”
Some boos rang out from the crowd, who were largely maskless.
“No, that’s OK. That’s all right. You got your freedoms,” Trump said, echoing rhetoric from opponents of mask and vaccination mandates. “But I happened to take the vaccine. If it doesn’t work, you’ll be the first to know. OK?
“But [the vaccine] is working,” he continued before adding “but you do have your freedoms you have to keep. You have to maintain that.”
Alex Azar, Trump’s own secretary of health, has said publicly he wishes Trump had been more supportive of vaccinations while in office. Alabama has the lowest vaccination rate in the U.S. with about 36 percent of its population having been fully inoculated, according to an NBC News tracker. The state’s governor, Republican Kay Ivey, has publicly stated “the unvaccinated folks” are to blame for the massive surge of COVID-19 cases in the state.

Finally, he speaks about having been vaccinated, suggests they get vaccinated, they booed him, fearing he will lose them he backtracks his suggestion to get vaccinated. They own him and he owns them.

He half-heartedly encouraged the crowd to get the vaccine, the crowd started to boo him, he immediately walked it back and said “that’s ok…you have to have your freedumbs“, The crowd roared it’s approval. He won’t go any farther than that with it.
