Trump Admits Greenland Threats Due To Nobel Peace Prize ‘Snub’

In a letter to Norway’s prime minister over the weekend, Donald Trump admitted his threats to acquire Greenland are motivated, in part, by what he perceives as being ‘snubbed’ for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize,  PBS News reports.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has publicly confirmed he received the message from Trump which reads, in part, “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace…”

Trump goes on to question Denmark’s “right of ownership” of Greenland, which has been part of the Danish kingdom for centuries.

The note was reportedly copied to multiple ambassadors in Washington.

As we’ve all seen in multiple news reports, Trump is bitter bitter bitter about not receiving the honor last year even though the cutoff date for nominations for the 2025 award was January 31, 2025 – just days after Trump was inaugurated.

As I’ve reported for years, Trump has long coveted the honor.

The Norwegian Prime Minister responded to Trump saying Greenland belongs to Denmark, and “we have nothing to do with the Nobel Prize.”

Text of the statement from Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre regarding communications with President Donald Trump:

“I can confirm that this is a text message that I received yesterday afternoon from President Trump. It came in response to a short text message from me to President Trump sent earlier on the same day, on behalf of myself and the President of Finland Alexander Stubb.

“In our message to Trump we conveyed our opposition to his announced tariff increases against Norway, Finland and select other countries. We pointed to the need to de-escalate and proposed a telephone conversation between Trump, Stubb and myself on the same day. The response from Trump came shortly after the message was sent. It was his decision to share his message with other NATO leaders,’ said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

“Norway’s position on Greenland is clear. Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and Norway fully supports the Kingdom of Denmark on this matter. We also support that NATO in a responsible way is taking steps to strengthen security and stability in the Arctic.

“As regards the Nobel Peace Prize, I have clearly explained, including to president Trump what is well known, the prize is awarded by an independent Nobel Committee and not the Norwegian Government,” said the Prime Minister.

Bolding is mine.

On Saturday, Trump announced a 10% import tariff on goods from 8 nations, including Norway, that have rallied around Denmark and Greenland.

This is truly deranged behavior.
