HBO Max has dropped the trailer for the third and “final” season of The Comeback starring Lisa Kudrow as B-list sitcom star “Valerie Cherish,” who’s desperate to revive her career.
Thus, she agrees to star in a reality television show called, appropriately enough, “The Comeback.”
The series chronicles Valerie’s every move as she angles to keep her head above the Hollywood fray, even as she’s woefully out of touch with modern show business…but not quite ready to give up the spotlight.
The show originally aired for 13 episodes from June 5 to September 4, 2005, before being canceled. Nine years later, The Comeback was revived for a second season of 8 episodes that aired from November 9 to December 28, 2014.
And here we are nearly 12 years later.
In the trailer, we learn Valerie’s new sitcom “How’s That?” is written entirely by AI, which even Valerie can recognize as a bad idea.
I have been a fan of the show (and Kudrow’s “Valerie Cherish”) since the show’s inception. Kudrow is brilliant in the role deftly balancing “ditzy actress” energy with a “fame is in my DNA” vibe.
Lands on HBO Max March 22.
