The Disappointments, a gay-themed darkly comic web series I’ve featured many times here on The Randy Report, has been announced as the winner of the 2022 Humanitas Prize for Web Series.

The Disappointments follows three middle-aged gay best friends trying to figure out how to live their best lives.

Deadline reports that the Web Series category was new for Humanitas in 2022. The category was open to scripted online videos created without the direct financial or creative backing of a major network or studio.

“In writing The Disappointments, I sought to shine a comedic light on a slice of life that doesn’t often get portrayed in mainstream media,” said screenwriter and series star Rich Burns in a statement. “The Disappointments is unique in that it focuses on gay men in their 50s approaching their retirement years and dealing with the fallout of faltering careers, empty bank accounts, and of dreams unfulfilled.”

“I am deeply honored that The Disappointments is being recognized with this prestigious Humanitas Prize,” Burns added.

Noting that the web series was entirely crowdsource funded, Burns also expressed his thanks for “the incredible generosity of people from around the world.”

“I offer them my sincerest thanks, and to our cast and crew, who poured their hearts and souls into a project we all love and believe in,” he said in closing.

In addition to writing the 11 part series, Burns also acts as co-director, co-executive producer and one of the four stars of the show.

He recently announced Season 2 of The Disappointments is currently in pre-production with shooting scheduled to begin in late summer.

Congrats to all involved!
