NYC Mayor Hosts Hundreds At Pride Month Celebration

Mayor Mamdani hosted hundreds at Pride Month celebration

Mayor Zohran Mamdani hosted hundreds at a New York city courthouse last night to kickoff his administration’s inaugural Pride Month celebration.

From The Advocate:

The event brought together New Yorkers of all different stripes, from politicians and activists to actors and drag artists.

Mamdani told The Advocate that the celebration signified his administration’s broader commitment to supporting the queer community, especially given the breadth of attacks on LGBTQ+ rights under President Donald Trump.

“We are so proud of our status as a haven for queer people,” Mamdani said. The city is dedicated to “protecting trans and queer New Yorkers from these relentless attacks that we’re facing with the federal administration.”

Since taking office in January, Mamdani created the city’s first Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs, launched a public awareness campaign around public safety for trans people, and earmarked $15 million for gender-affirming health care in the city’s executive budget.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is set to sign an executive order today that will officially establish the first-ever Mayor’s Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs.

• TMZ: International pop star Pink shared a selfie from a hospital bed on New Year’s Eve, revealing she’s undergoing surgery to get two new discs in her neck. Sounds sad, but the singer was upbeat in her Instagram message adding, “Rock ‘n’ roll is a contact sport.”

• OUT: Even CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live telecast couldn’t avoid the cultural power of HBO’s “Heated Rivalry,” as the show came up at least four times between hosting besties Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper. During one segment, Cohen asked country artist Brandi Carlile, “Do lesbians care about ‘Heated Rivalry?” as Cooper giggled uncontrollably. Don’t worry – the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is definitely happening as planned. Don’t believe the internet cult who fell for a satirical meme.

After Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral election in early November 2025, a rumor began circulating online that Macy’s was canceling its annual Thanksgiving parade because the mayor-elect wanted to charge the department store $10 million to use Fifth Avenue.
