Rush Limbaugh: First Lady Michelle Obama is fat

Today, on his radio show, Rush Limbaugh made fun of First Lady Michelle Obama as over-weight while he perused a picture from last night’s state dinner with French President Francois Hollande.

“There is Michelle Obama and the $12,000 gown by Carolina Herrera, and the French president Hollande is in the middle, and there’s Obama. You’ll notice that this dress is bigger than the president of France.

“Here, let me make one more adjustment here and I’ll show you this again. Take a look at that picture. The little guy in the middle is the socialist dictator — well, not dictator. He’s the socialist president of France.

“On the left, that’s not Oprah. Don’t confuse that. That’s Michelle Obama. I saw a picture of this from the rear. That’s why I thought it was Oprah. I did.”

Limbaugh and other right wing conservative nuts are very, very perturbed that the Obamas hosted a formal state dinner while the president campaigns against income inequality.

Now – those inconvenient facts that right wingers don’t like to acknowledge:

Last night’s event was only the 6th state dinner during the Obama’s time in the White House.

Ronald Reagan hosted 35 state dinners during his two terms.

The first President Bush held more than 20 state dinners in his one term in office.

LGBT Pride Reception at the White House

President Obama delivers remarks at the LGBT Pride Month celebration at the White House. June 13, 2013.

In his remarks, President Obama called for passage of ENDA (Employment Non-Discrimination Act) saying “There’s a bipartisan bill moving forward in the Senate that would ban discrimination against all LGBT Americans in the workplace, now and forever,” Obama said. “We need to get that passed. I want to sign that bill. We need to get it done now.”

LGBT activists were quick to address those remarks calling on the President to sign an executive order that would achieve the same goals for the LGBT workers employed by federal contractors.

President Obama jokes at the 2013 White House Correspondents Dinner

Some of President Obama’s one liners at the White House Correspondent’s dinner:

• I’m not the strapping young muslim socialist like I used to be.
• I admire the DC press corps covering all sides of an issue, just in case one of them happens to be accurate
• I’m taking my charm offensive on the road… a book burning with Michele Bachmann
• Some have suggested we put my library in my birthplace, but I’d rather keep it in the US.

I love this tradition, and I like that he can make fun of himself.

AP Twitter account hacked with fake “White House bomb” tweet

A fake tweet from the account of the Associated Press sent stocks tumbling more than 140 points within minutes, erasing all of the day’s gains and then some, before bouncing back just as rapidly.

The erroneous tweet, which was posted around 1:07 p.m. ET, said “BREAKING: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured.” The tweet was up for a few minutes before AP’s account was suspended, and presumably seen by many of AP’s nearly 2 million followers. The tweet was also retweeted by almost 1,500 other Twitter users.

By 1:10 p.m. ET, the Dow was down almost 13 points, or 0.1% on the day. Just prior to the tweet, the blue-chip index had been up about 0.9% for the day. Stocks fully recovered from the plunge a few minutes after hitting the low of the day, as investors realized the tweet had been made by a hacker and was not true.  You can see the affect of the tweet in the screen capture of today’s stock activity below.

2012 White House Christmas Card featuring Bo Obama

Above is this year’s White House Christmas card featuring a painting of the fab Bo Obama taking a stroll through the snow.

Iowa artist Larassa Kabel’s painting depicts a snow-covered Bo running across the White House’s North Lawn, an homage to the 2010 snapshot below, which caught the 4-year-old playing in the snow during a February blizzard.

Sarah Palin criticizes the White House Christmas card

SRSLY? She crawls out of the shadows for this?

Former half-term Alaska Governor Sarah Palin attacked the White House holiday card in an article on Fox News Radio.

The front of the card shows the Obamas’ dog, Bo, sitting in a very Christmas-like setting, with a fireplace decorated with wreaths and red ribbons, and a table with a poinsettia plant and presents. “From our family to yours, may your holidays shine with the light of the season,” reads the inside of the card, which is signed by the Obamas (including Bo).

Palin characterized the card as “odd”:

“It’s odd,” she said, wondering why the president’s Christmas card highlights his dog instead of traditions like ‘family, faith and freedom.'”

Palin said a majority of Americans prefer “American foundational values illustrated and displayed on Christmas cards and on a Christmas tree.” With regard to the card, she added, “It’s just a different way of thinking coming out of the White House.”

I personally think the card is very nice and tasteful. Very traditional Americana-esque.

I’m not sure how Ms. Palin comes to her assessment of what “a majority of Americans” want on their Christmas cards. Hard to imagine she’s done some research on the subject – especially when we know she doesn’t like to read much.

White House names openly gay Social Secretary

The White House announced the appointment Friday afternoon of Jeremy Bernard to the position of Special Assistant to the President and Social Secretary. He is the first man and the first openly gay person to hold the position. Bernard will join the White House from the U.S. Embassy in Paris, where he serves as senior adviser to the ambassador. He previously worked as the White House Liaison to the National Endowment for the Humanities from 2008 to 2010. Finally someone who will know how to throw a “fabulous” party. And I never use that word.
