Viral Video: Burning Man: The Musical

TIME raves about the latest and greatest off-off-Broadway musical – Burning Man: The Musical.

The comedy musical opened very off-off Broadway — on the internet, specifically — and is only five minutes long, but it packs a lot of action and surprisingly deep character development into its grand opening number.

There’s the eager techie boarding a school bus bound for Black Rock City with visions of hanging out with Elon Musk and Google execs in his eyes. There’s the grizzled, wizened hippy and the starry-eyed girl bemoaning the loss of the Burning Man festival that was before “the techies came to plug n’ play” and singing about “when the playa was clean / and techies stayed in SOMA.” All that in just the opening number!

The creators of the video call Burning Man: The Musical, “the collision of Silicon Valley and Burning Man.” The clip is actually a fundraiser to help develop a full scale musical. Check their crowdsourcing page here.

Broadway savvy fans will recognize many of the insider references to contemporary Broadway shows, including RENT and Spring Awakening.

Viral Video Of The Day: Arnold Schwarzenegger Pranks Hollywood

Over 10,000,000 views in one day.

Out of public office and back on the screen, Arnold Schwarzenegger pranks what seem like all of Hollywood as he takes on his Terminator persona and surprises fans.

The 67-year-old star walked the streets of Hollywood in character, posed as himself at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, and took part in an “I’ll Be Back” showdown with a “Terminator” impersonator.

The endeavor was to raise money for the charity After-School All-Stars through Omaze.com, which offers 87,377 low-income, at-risk youth after-school programs in 15 major cities across the country — from New York to Hawaii.

I’ll add that while Schwarzenegger has kept clear of politics for the most part, he did write an op-ed this April condemning the GOP’s support for a “religious freedom” law in Indiana, which could potentially be used to discriminate against the LGBT community.

“As an American, I’m incredibly concerned about what happened in Indiana this week and the threat of similar laws being passed in other states. As a Republican, I’m furious,” Schwarzenegger wrote.

The latest installment of THE TERMINATOR opens in theaters July 1st.

Viral Video: Price Is Right Model Accidentally Gives Away Car

A model on the popular game show ‘Price Is Right’ botched a simple game and the show had to give the prize, a car, away due to the models error.

I’m guessing the model was just on auto-pilot?  Bless her heart, she gets so embarrassed.

The contestant went on to win another car in the last game of the show Showcase Showdown.

Dallas Tech High School Students Get Down With Their “Uptown Funk”

Theatre Arts teacher Scot Pankey at the A. Maceo Smith New Tech High School in Dallas organized what looks like an entire school of tech students to get down with their “Uptown Funk.”

The video poster on YouTube says, “This is a great example of how a bunch of technology students let go of their fears, trusted their teacher and got down to Uptown Funk!!!”

China Sees First Sexual-Orientation Discrimination Lawsuit Filed

A viral video last year seems to have earned one man a recording contract, and China it’s first sexual-orientation discrimination lawsuit.

From Shanghaist:

Last October, a video showing the Nanshan police dealing with a dispute between two gay males in the street went viral on the web (see below).

A speech made by one of the men wearing a “little red hat” in the video turned into an internet meme, and it further inspired multiple music videos and imitation videos online. The man and his “little red hat” gained so much attention, he was even able to sign with a talent company.

However, the other party of this dispute, a man named Mu Yi, said he was “outed involuntarily” because of the viral video, and is now suing his company for firing him because he is gay.

This is believed to be China’s first ever sexual-orientation discrimination lawsuit. “During that time (when the video went viral) I was a total wreck. I couldn’t go out. I couldn’t answer the phone. I even lost my job,” Mu told reporters. “I was the victim to begin with, it doesn’t make any sense for my company [to punish me more],” he said.

Check out the initial video footage followed by the remixed version below. The remix is pretty catchy…
