Following quickly on the heels of Donald Trump telling NBC News that he opposes North Carolina’s anti-LGBT hate law HB2, Sen. Ted Cruz rushed out this attack ad using the same, tired false “attack of the transgender women” narrative we’ve seen far too often.
Text of the spot:
“Should a grown man pretending to be a woman be allowed to use the women’s restroom? The same restroom used by your daughter? And your wife? Donald Trump thinks so. It’s not appropriate and it’s not safe. It’s PC nonsense that’s destroying America. Donald Trump won’t take on the PC police. He’s one of them.”
GOP White House hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz was asked a question this morning on Good Morning America by a gay Republican businessman concerned about so-called “religious freedom” laws and Cruz’s support for a constitutional amendment to overturn same-sex marriage in the United States.
It will come as no surprise that Cruz stealthily side-stepped what the gentleman was asking and instead talks on how “religious freedom” in the Constitution “protects everybody.”
Even though hosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos circle back to the center of the question, Cruz never really addresses the issue.
The moment feels like everyone is being a bit “polite” – the question gets posed but no one really goes to the heart of the matter. Watch below from ABC:
Sen. Ted Cruz, making an appearance on The Tonight Show last night, played along for a “phone call” from faux “Trumpster” played by Jimmy Fallon.
During the call, “The Donald” inquires how Cruz won all of Colorado’s delegates without voting, and then offers Cruz advice on how to visit New York in advance of the GOP primary there next week.
I’m not sure comedy is Cruz’s strong suit, but I give him props for trying.

This follows a story in the current news cycle recalling when then Texas solicitor general Ted Cruz argued in a court case in 2007 that “there is no substantive-due-process right to stimulate one’s genitals for non-medical purposes unrelated to procreation or outside of an interpersonal relationship.”
As I always say: “Ye who protesteth the loudest, do it the mosteth.”

Gov. Scott Walker called into WTMJ Radio in Milwaukee to announce his endorsement of Ted Cruz. Walker called Cruz a “principled, common sense conservative.”
Not sure if endorsements actually do anything in this wild campaign season, though. South Carolina’s Gov. Nikki Haley didn’t seem to do much for Marco Rubio.
But we shall see. The Wisconsin primary is one week away.

After the National Enquirer ran a report about alleged affairs by Ted Cruz, Cruz accused Donald Trump‘s campaign of potential involvement.
On ABC’s This Week guest host Jon Karl asked Trump if his campaign or anyone connected to it was in any way involved with the story. Trump said no one did, and he lashed out at Cruz for blaming him when, he said, “I have no control over the National Enquirer.”
“I don’t care, I mean, really, I don’t care… I have no idea whether it was right or not. They actually have a very good record of being right… I hope it’s not right.”
“I have no idea whether or not the cover story about Ted Cruz in this week’s issue of the National Enquirer is true or not, but I had absolutely nothing to do with it, did not know about it, and have not, as yet, read it.
“Likewise, I have nothing to do with the National Enquirer and unlike Lyin’ Ted Cruz I do not surround myself with political hacks and henchman and then pretend total innocence. Ted Cruz’s problem with the National Enquirer is his and his alone, and while they were right about O.J. Simpson, John Edwards, and many others, I certainly hope they are not right about Lyin’ Ted Cruz.

The story all of the political sphere is talking about today – the National Enquirer’s “story” that White House hopeful (and super “Christian”) Cruz may have had at least five affairs while married.
The first thought that crosses my mind is, “Seriously? The National Enquirer?”
Heavy.com breaks down several reasons why the story may not have legs:
The National Enquirer’s March 25 issue features a potentially troubling accusation against 2016 Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz: a private investigator is looking into claims he’s been having an affair with five different women. While the Enquirer didn’t name any names and ran only pixelated photos, the Twittersphere has been rife with speculation and Internet detective work under the hashtag #CruzSexScandal. Internet detectives claim to have identified three of the five women whose pixelated likenesses appear in the Enquirer story, two of whom worked on other candidates’ campaigns in 2016 and one of whom worked for his own.
The “story” has dominated Twitter, with #CruzSexScandal trending worldwide and allegations of hush money and questions about what the other candidates knew flying, especially in light of Cruz’s recent high-profile spat with Donald Trump over the use of Melania Trump’s photo in campaign ads. But there are plenty of reasons to be more than a little skeptical of the Enquirer’s report.
But it’s notable that the NE broke the news on affairs by John Edwards, Jesse Jackson, Gary Hart, Tiger Woods and more. And it would be hard to imagine risking such high profile litigation without some kind of proof.
It is important to note that no proof of any impropriety has been offered; only allegations.

A CNN debate between a Donald Trump supporter and former Ted Cruz communications director Amanda Carpenter went off the rails Friday when the Trump supporter suddenly accused Carpenter of having an illicit affair with her former boss.
CNN’s Kate Bolduan was hosting a segment on the feud between Trump and Ted Cruz. “Are you ready for Trump to move on?” she asked Boston Herald columnist Adriana Cohen.
“Oh, absolutely I think we should move on,” she responded. “Where we should move to is The National Enquirer story that has reported that has Ted Cruz has had affairs with five mistresses, including you’ve been named as well, Amanda.”
“I don’t think that’s ‘moving on’ at all, Adriana,” an exasperated Bolduan interrupted.
“If we’re going call Donald Trump’s character into question, I would like Ted Cruz to issue a statement whether or not the National Enquirer story is true, that he has had affairs with many women, including you were named, Amanda,” Cohen repeated. “Will you denounce this story or will you confirm it?”
Note Cohen’s smug face as her little “mean girl” move plays out.
It’s no wonder she’s a Trump supporter.
