SNL Cold Open Spoofs R. Kelly’s Wild Interview

Kenan Thompson as R. Kelly in SNL’s cold open

SNL’s cold open last night took on the now-infamous R. Kelly interview with CBS’ Gayle King.

Kenan Thompson portrays the singer, and Leslie Jones offers up her take on the cool-as-cucumber CBS This Morning co-host.

I think this is one of the best skits I’ve ever seen Thompson do. Not only does he capture the illogical freneticism of Kelly, but the writing is totally on point.

I don’t want to spoil anything, so just hit play below. Very funny stuff.

Don Cheadle’s SNL Fashion Statements Support Trans Kids & Shades Trump

While hosting SNL last night, actor Don Cheadle made some thoughtful statements with his fashion choices. Protect trans kids.

While hosting SNL last night, actor Don Cheadle made some thoughtful statements with his fashion choices.

First, as he introduced musical guest Gary Clark Jr., Cheadle made a silent statement of support for transgender youth by wearing a T-shirt that said, “Protect Trans Kids.”

And at the end of the show, Cheadle donned a Soviet Union hockey jersey, emblazoned with the name Trump on the back along with the number 45, signifying Donald Trump being the 45th president of the U.S.

SNL Spoofs Trump’s “Emergency” Announcement, Trump Calls For ‘Retribution’

SNL was not about to pass up the chance to address Donald Trump’s “national emergency” announcement this week.

Alec Baldwin’s “Trump” begins with a little boasting by sharing his recent physical results: “I’m still standing six foot seven 185 pounds shredded.”

Then, he moves on to announce the “national emergency” speaking in an oddly broken pattern: “We need wall because wall works. Wall make safe. You don’t have to be smart to understand that. In fact, it’s even easier if you’re not.”

Trump takes a question from a reporter from Playboy (“Sweet, sweet, sweet many nights in the grotto right?”), but threatens the journalist before he can even ask a question:

“Sit down or I’m switching back to Hustler.”

Changing the subject, Trump introduces his newly-sworn Attorney General William Barr saying, “Congratulations, this guy is going to do such a great job! But still, he’s working for me, so I give him three months tops, ok? Dead man walking!”

The Trumpster didn’t care for the skit so much, tweeting his outrage saying SNL is “the real Collusion” and called for “retribution” against the show.

SNL Cold Open: Steve Martin Guests As Newly-Indicted Roger Stone

SNL’s cold open recapped the week’s biggest political stories including Donald Trump’s failure to get even one dollar for his beloved border wall before ending the longest government shutdown in history.

From the YouTube description: Tucker Carlson (Alex Moffat), Jeannine Pirro (Cecily Strong), Ann Coulter (Heidi Gardner), Wilbur Ross (Kate McKinnon) talk about the government shutdown and Roger Stone (Steve Martin) stops by to talk about his arrest.

Riffing on his recent gaffe wondering why furloughed government workers were struggling to make ends meet during the shutdown, McKinnon’s Ross says, “I simply meant that there are other ways of getting money – like, they could have liquidated some of their stocks or sold one of their paintings.”

“Even if they sold a lesser Picasso, that’s still going to get you through a week or two of yacht maintenance,” McKinnon as Ross said. “We all have to make sacrifices in times of hardship. For example, instead of going out to dinner you could open a restaurant in your house, or, for a period of time, you could have your horses attend public school.”

And Martin was spot on as Roger Stone mocking the political operative for being a “broke… feeble old man” who is drowning in legal fees and can’t get anyone to buy his books (“because they’re bad!”).

“Just tell people how they can donate money to help you,” Carlson says.

“I set up a donation pageant based on a phrase people have been yelling at me: ‘Hey, Roger, go fund yourself!’” says Martin’s Stone.

SNL Cold Open Offers “A Wonderful Life” Where Trump Was Never President

SNL’s holiday show cold open threw a new spin on the Christmas classic, It’s A Wonderful Life, where Donald Trump wishes for a world where he was not elected president.

The skit features celebrity cameos by Ben Stiller (Michael Cohen), Robert De Niro (Robert Mueller), and host Matt Damon (Brett Kavanaugh).

Entering a holiday party, Trump looks around the room noting the mood of the party goers: “Everyone looks so different. What are those things on their faces?”

Kenan Thompson’s ‘Clarence the Guardian Angel’ replies, “Those are called smiles.”

When Trump asks if ‘they ever found’ Hillary Clinton’s emails, Clarence shares, “They did – they were all Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons.”

In this new world, Mike Pence is a gay DJ (“It’s so great to be myself”).

And Melania Trump, no longer married to the Donald, doesn’t have an accent anymore. “After our divorce, I lost it. They said being around you was hurting my language skills.”

The sketch appears to have triggered the Trumpster:

SNL Cold Open: Alec Baldwin’s ‘Donald Trump’ Worries About Mueller Probe

Donald Trump (Alec Baldwin) gets an update about the Robert Mueller probe from Rudy Giuliani (Kate McKinnon) and Michael Cohen (Ben Stiller) after being comforted by First Lady Melania Trump (Cecily Strong).
‘Donald Trump’ and company sing “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” on SNL

Donald Trump (Alec Baldwin) gets an update about the Robert Mueller probe from Rudy Giuliani (Kate McKinnon) and Michael Cohen (Ben Stiller) after being comforted by First Lady Melania Trump (Cecily Strong).

Baldwin’s Trump: “I’m sad you’re going to prison, Michael. You were like a son to me.”

Stiller’s Cohen: “Then why’d you make me do so much illegal stuff?”

“Because you were like a son to me,” says Baldwin’s Trump.

Plus, he confronts Vladimir Putin (Beck Bennett) about his handshake with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia (Fred Armisen) at the G20 Summit in Argentina.

“Don’t cry for me Argentina, the truth is I’m very guilty. Some little no-nos and maybe treason. But I kept my promise. Oops, no, I didn’t,” sings the Trumpeter at the end of the skit.

SNL Says ‘Goodbye’ To Attorney General Jeff Sessions

With the news that Donald Trump fired his Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, one day after the midterm elections, how could SNL not say goodbye to their “Jeff Sessions” played by Kate McKinnon?

It’s time to pack up and get out, “Jeff,” but before you do some folks want to come say good-bye including Sarah Huckabee Sanders (Aidy Bryant), Mike Pence (Beck Bennett), Eric Trump (Alex Moffat), Donald Trump Jr. (Mikey Day) and Robert Mueller (Robert De Niro).

As Sessions wonders what else he could have done to please his boss (“I don’t understand what I did wrong? I put kids in cages. I said no to gays? What more did you want?”), Bennet’s Pence finds his mind wandering: “I’m sorry, I heard the words ‘gays in cages’ and I went somewhere crazy.”

And the Trump boys, Junior and Eric, check in with Sessions to see if they are going to get “some penis” (or subpoenas, but, whatever).

And then Mueller is the final goodbye, but at least he brings a going away present.

SNL: The Only Sleep Aid Strong Enough For Sarah Huckabee Sanders

Andy Bryant as “Sarah Huckabee Sanders”

I meant to post this spoof ad from this weekend’s Saturday Night Live yesterday.

The folks at SNL have been wondering how White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders manages to sleep at night after sharing lie after lie in defense of Donald Trump.

The answer, it seems, is “HuckaPM,” an over the counter sleep-aid that contains “Melatonin, Extra Strength Quaaludes, and what Michael Jackson’s doctor called ‘One and Dones.'”

Props to Aidy Bryant for her excellent physical comedy here.

SNL Cold Open: Kanye West Visits The Oval Office

Last night’s cold open on SNL took on the wild and wacky rollercoaster that was Kanye West visiting the Oval Office this week.

“So in conclusion, 13th Amendment, Chi-Raq, trap doors lead to the Unabomber, male energy, Trump is my dad, Hillary’s a woman and the media needs to start making this President look good,” concludes Chris Redd’s ‘Kanye.’

“I love you Kanye,” Alec Baldwin’s Trump chimed in. “We have a lot more in common than people know. We’re both geniuses, we’re both married to beautiful women and we both definitely have been recorded saying the ‘n-word.’”

Kinda hard to put the skit into words as it pretty much captures the off event.

SNL Cold Open: Matt Damon’s Delivers Epic Take On Brett Kavanaugh

Epic cold open on SNL last night as Oscar winner Matt Damon delivered a spot on Judge Brett Kavanaugh testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Asking the questions were Senators Chuck Grassley (Alex Moffat), Dianne Feinstein (Cecily Strong), Amy Klobuchar (Rachel Dratch), Thom Tillis (Mikey Day), Cory Booker (Chris Redd), John Kennedy (Kyle Mooney), Sheldon Whitehouse (Pete Davidson), Lindsey Graham (Kate McKinnon) and prosecutor Rachel Mitchell (Aidy Bryant).

So many great lines here, I don’t want to say too much. But you will definitely find a lot to laugh at here.

Damon is on fire right out of the gate with his opening statement.

“Let me tell you this,” he said. “I’m going to start at an 11. I’m going to take it to about a 15 real quick. First of all I showed this speech to almost no one — not my family, not my friends. … This is my speech. There are others like it, but this is mine. I wrote it myself last night while screaming into an empty bag of Doritos.”

Former SNL-er Rachel Dratch was dead on as Klobuchar inquiring about Kavanaugh’s drinking habits in school.

Asked if he drank too much, Damon’s Kavanaugh replied: “Look, I like beer. O.K.? I like beer. Boys like beer. Girls like beer. I like beer. I like beer.”

Dratch pressed on, asking, “Did you ever drink too many beers?”

And in total prep school perfection, Damon’s Kavanaugh replied, “You mean was I cool? Yeah.”

And then there was Kate McKinnon’s take on Sen. Lindsey Graham’s now-infamous tirade. “I know I’m supposed to shut up because I’m a single white male, 5’10” uncut. But I will not shut up because this is a bunch of crap,” he said.
