Ted Cruz Torpedoes GOP Convention – Refuses To Endorse Donald Trump

Stealing the spotlight from Donald Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence, and son Eric Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz refused to endorse the Republican nominee as he spoke at this year’s Republican National Convention.

Cruz only mentioned Trump’s name once – to say “congratulations” – and then went on to deliver a self-serving speech clearly calculated to undercut his party’s nominee.

From ABC News:

“I want to congratulate Donald Trump on winning the nomination last night,” the Texas senator said, addressing the Cleveland gathering on its third evening. “And like each of you, I want to see the principles that our party believes prevail in November.”

And then Cruz, whose primary battle with Trump turned increasingly bitter when the billionaire businessman attacked Cruz’s wife and his father, pivoted to this: “Conventions are times of excitement. But given the events of the last few weeks, I hope you’ll allow me a moment to talk to you about what’s really at stake.”

When delegates from New York loudly urged Cruz from the convention floor to “say it” — referring to endorsing Trump — the Texas senator only responded: “I appreciate the enthusiasm of the New York delegation.” Cruz then exited to loud booing from the crowd.

Speaking to the Texas Republican delegation this morning, Cruz explained he was not going to “come like a servile puppy dog and say, ‘thank you very much for maligning my wife and maligning my father.’”

In the aftermath of the debacle, Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort told CNN, “Trump made the offer to speak without any conditions. He thought Sen. Cruz might be a little more politically smart.” That doesn’t sound like The Donald is a very good deal maker, does it?

Afterwards, Trump tweeted that he knew ahead of time about Cruz’s intentions but “let him speak anyway.”

Log Cabin Republicans On Anti-LGBT Republican Platform: “Losers! Morons! Sad!”

As hard as they try, the gay men and women of Log Cabin Republicans remind me of the Peanuts cartoons where “Lucy” fools “Charlie Brown” over and over again by yanking the football away before he can kick the ball.

Year after year LCR hope to get to be part of the Republican party. To be respected. And every year, the GOP shows disdain for the LGBT community.

The self-loathing is painful to watch.

This year, in the wake of the most anti-LGBT platform ever,  LCR has run a full page ad in the Cleveland edition of USA Today denouncing the virulently anti-LGBT positions taken this election year.

Via press release:

Log Cabin Republicans has placed a full-page ad in USA Today calling out the GOP Platform Committee for drafting the most anti-LGBT platform in the Republican Party’s 162-year history. The ad runs today in the Cleveland edition of the largest newspaper in the United States and will be available in most every hotel speakers, Delegates, and credentialed guests will be staying at during the Republican National Convention.

“Response from allies to our reaction in the wake of the drafting of this vitriolic anti-LGBT platform has been nothing short of staggering,” Log Cabin Republicans President Gregory T. Angelo stated. “The email sent to our members last week propelled Log Cabin Republicans to the top trend on Facebook for more than two days, and now holds the record as the highest-grossing single fundraising appeal this organization has ever sent. But this was fundraising with a purpose—I’m pleased to share that every last cent donated to Log Cabin Republicans via last week’s email has been spent on this project. This unprecedented support is representative of the GOP I know, and this is the GOP our members want to see.”

The provocative advertisement reads, “LOSERS! MORONS! SAD! No, these aren’t tweets from Donald Trump. This is what common-sense conservatives are saying about the most anti-LGBT platform the Republican Party has ever had. GOP Platform Committee: Out of touch, out of line, and out of step with 61% of young Republicans who favor same-sex marriage.”

“It’s my hope this advertisement will be a wake-up call to the intransigent and ancient voices on the GOP Platform Committee that marriage equality is the law of the land, gay families are a part of the fabric of America, and LGBT Republicans have an important role to play in growing the Party,” Angelo concluded.

Antonio Sabato Jr. On President Obama: “I Don’t Believe That The Guy Is A Christian”

Antonio Sabato Jr. speaks at RNC 2016

I find this appallingly despicable rhetoric. It’s well documented that President Obama is a Christian and has attended church regularly.

The idea of questioning another person’s faith is reprehensible. Shame on Antonio Sabato Jr.

Politico reports:

Actor Antonio Sabàto Jr. “absolutely” believes President Barack Obama is a Muslim, he said Monday after addressing the Republican National Convention, accusing Obama of being “on the other side.”

“First of all, I don’t believe that the guy is a Christian,” Sabàto said. “I don’t believe he follows the God that I love and the Jesus that I love.”

“If you follow his story, if you read his book, if you understand about Obama — I mean, that’s not a Christian name, is it?” he continued.

Sabàto maintained that Obama doesn’t go to church and accused him of having never talked about Jesus Christ. “I’ve met a lot of Christians. I know Christians,” he said. “I am one, and I don’t believe he is.”

“I believe that he’s on the other side — the Middle East. He’s with the bad guys,” Sabàto said. “He’s with them. He’s not with us. He’s not with this country.” Asked if America could ever have a Muslim or Jewish president, Sabàto insisted the country has already had the former “for seven and a half years.”

When asked why he opposes Obama today, Sabàto notes that “the Bible is completely out of the schools.” It’s important to note that keeping organized religion out of public schools happened a long time before Obama became president.

The heated attacks against Obama are now allowed to be whatever comes out of anyone’s mouth. It’s ugly.

Stephen Colbert Takes To The Podium To Launch “The 2016 Republican National Hungry For Power Games!”

Stephen Colbert at the “center of power” at the Republican National Convention

Stephen Colbert jumped the gun a bit here when he unexpectedly took to the stage at the Republican National Convention to gavel in the festivities.

From Raw Story:

The footage shows Colbert in his “Caesar Flickerman” regalia declaring from the stage that Trump “has formed an alliance with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence” before seemingly falling asleep at the mention of Pence’s name.

“Sorry, I blacked out there for a moment,” he says upon recovering, before proclaiming that “it is my honor to hereby launch and begin the 2016 Republican National Hungry For Power Games!”

At that point a security guard is seen hassling Colbert, who quickly protests, “I know I’m not supposed to be up here — honest, neither is Donald Trump.”

Donald Trump Hints (Again) At Third Party Run And Law Suit

In a dramatic press release and subsequent press conference today, GOP front-runner hinted at a possible 3rd party run due to his dissatisfaction with the way he feels the Republican National Committee has treated him.

Again.

The Trumpster also threatened to sue Sen. Ted Cruz over the issue of Cruz’s eligibility to be president unless Cruz apologized for what Trump considers several “lies” about his positions.

Via Raw Story:

Trump, who was booed at a debate on Saturday, complained that the audience was full of “lobbyists and donors” whom he accused of manipulating his rivals. “Those tickets were all special interest people. I know ’em,” he said.

“I signed a pledge but it’s a double-edge pledge, and as far as I’m concerned they’re in default of the pledge.”

A spokesperson for the Republican National Committee told the Guardian: “The language of the pledge is pretty straightforward.”

The pledge, he said, “simply states the candidates pledge to run as a Republican and support the nominee. Nothing more and nothing less.”

The men and women in the audience were largely at the candidates’ discretion, according to the RNC: “Each candidate received 100 tickets which is the largest amount so far. The candidates as a whole were the largest group of ticket holders.”

But Trump declared said “the pledge isn’t being honored by them”, without elaborating on what the Republican party’s obligations would be under the agreement. He said the debate was “a disgrace” and “the RNC does a terrible job”.

Trump went on to call current second-place GOP contender Ted Cruz a “basketcase,” “unhinged,” and “unstable.”

See the press release Trump issued prior to the press conference below:

Ted Cruz is a totally unstable individual. He is the single biggest liar I’ve ever come across, in politics or otherwise, and I have seen some of the best of them. His statements are totally untrue and completely outrageous. It is hard to believe a person who proclaims to be a Christian could be so dishonest and lie so much.

Cruz said I would be appointing a liberal judge when in fact I will appoint a great conservative and I am the only candidate who has gone so far, at the debate, as to suggest two individuals I feel would best represent the conservative values we need to protect: William “Bill” Pryor Jr. and Diane Sykes.

Cruz says I am pro-choice, when in fact I am staunchly pro-life and have been for a long time. Like Ronald Reagan, on many issues, I have evolved.

Cruz says I am in favor of ObamaCare, when in fact I have spoken about repealing and replacing this disaster of a system at every speech throughout my campaign and since it’s inception. Meanwhile, Cruz was responsible for getting Bush to put in the judge that failed to vote against ObamaCare twice.

Cruz says I will try to take away your second amendment rights, when I am one of the strongest proponents of the right to bear arms and I say so in every speech that I have made for years. I am a proud member of the NRA and so are my sons.

Cruz has become unhinged and is lying with the hopes that his statements will go unchecked until after the election and he will save his failing campaign.

In Iowa, Cruz told thousands of Ben Carson voters that Dr. Carson had left the race and to instead vote for Ted Cruz. He apologized when the race was over. Likewise, his fraudulent voter violation form sent to Iowa voters. If Ted is going to continue to lie with such desperation, I have no choice but to fight back.

One of the ways I can fight back is to bring a lawsuit against him relative to the fact that he was born in Canada and therefore cannot be President. If he doesn’t take down his false ads and retract his lies, I will do so immediately. Additionally, the RNC should intervene and if they don’t they are in default of their pledge to me.

I am the strongest on the borders and I will build a wall, and it will be a real wall. I am strongest on illegal immigration, strongest on ISIS, strongest on the military and I will take care of our Vets. I will end common core and preserve the second amendment. I will renegotiate our trade deals and bring our jobs back to our country. I am the only person who will Make America Great Again.

Republican National Committee Suspends Debate Partnership With NBC

Following this week’s GOP presidential debate, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus sent a letter to NBC News stating the RNC is “suspending the partnership” with the network regarding a planned February debate.

The letter came in the wake of intense criticism of how the CBNC debate was handled earlier this week.

Priebus wrote that the partnership was suspended “pending further discussion between the RNC and our presidential campaigns.”

NBC has been scheduled to hold a GOP debate February 26 in Houston.

Although CNBC and NBC News are both owned by NBCUniversal, the two are separate entities; they have different management teams and different locations while often sharing and collaborating on news stories.

I watched the CNBC debate, and while I think the candidates over-reacted to the questions asked (many just ignored the questions), I did think the CNBC team wasn’t prepared or tightly focused enough to keep control of the event. At times, the moderators didn’t seem equipped nor ready with follow up questions.

RNC Taking All-Expenses Paid Trip To Israel With Hate Group

Why are members of the Republican National Committee taking an all-expenses paid trip to Israel on behalf of certified hate group American Family Association? A group that says gays are “responsible for the Nazi party” and that “atheist Jews” are one of the worst enemies of America?

Hate Group Leader No More – Bryan Fischer Fired By American Family Association

For years, readers have seen me posted about the outrageous and hateful things that have spewed forth from Bryan Fischer – now formerly of the hate group, the American Family Association.

It seems all things must come to an end something, as the AFA announced tonight that Bryan Fischer is no longer the spokesman for the organization; the position he has held for years.

From the clip description:

Rachel Maddow tonight broke news that the American Family Association has officially fired notorious evangelist Bryan Fischer after a controversy involving the RNC and Israel. Fischer is notorious for having some––well, let’s not sugarcoat it––crazy views on gays, “homofascists,” more crazy views on gays, and… yeah, basically a lot of gay stuff.

Fischer is so out there, he concocted some insane conspiracy theory last year that the only reason Shepard Smith wasn’t freaking out about Ebola is because he wants to support President Obama‘s big government gay agenda.

At issue this time is an RNC trip to Israel that was apparently being paid for by the American Family Association, of which Fischer is the director of issues analysis.

Or, rather, he was. Until today.

Maddow quoted AFA President Tim Wildmon as dismissing Fischer as “just a talk show host” who is no longer associated with the AFA. When asked specifically what bothered him about Fischer, he cited “the soundbite quotes, you know, the Hitler and the homosexuality one… we reject that.”

I invite you to watch the video below where Rachel Maddow explains how this impacts the Republican National Committee and Israel.

Ding, dong, the witch is dead, which old witch? The wicked witch…
