ABC Cancels Roseanne Barr’s Sitcom After Ugly, Racist Twitter Rant

Roseanne Barr

Roseanne Barr lost her mind today tweeting a vicious, racist rant that eventually led to her renewed sitcom being canceled by ABC.

From Variety:

ABC has pulled the plug on the revival “Roseanne.”

The move comes after series star Roseanne Barr made a comment on Twitter Tuesday morning referring to former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett as looking like the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.” Jarrett, an African-American, was born in Iran to American parents.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement.

Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger voiced his support for the cancellation, tweeting “There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.”

Barr deleted her tweet about Jarrett not long after posting it. She followed it up with an apology which read, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste. I am now leaving Twitter.”

Out lesbian Wanda Sykes resigned her position as a consulting producer before ABC could cancel the show:

Also, out Roseanne star Sara Gilbert spoke out against the ugly rant:

NYC Lawyer Whose Racist Rant Went Viral Apologizes: “I Moved To NYC For The Diversity”

After being revealed as a bigoted racist in a viral video showing NYC attorney Aaron Schlossberg ranting at two women speaking Spanish in a lunch time restaurant, Schlossberg has issued a public apology
NYC attorney Aaron Schlossberg

After his bigoted, racist rant in a Midtown Manhattan lunch spot went viral, pro-Trump lawyer Aaron Schlossberg has become the target of much attention.

Reporters following him down streets and into buildings; folks have thrown mariachi parties in front of his building on the Upper West Side.

Well, it seems as though Schlossberg has raised a white flag of surrender.

Today, the New York City-based attorney issued a public apology telling the world seeing himself on video “opened” his eyes, and who we see in that hate-filled rant “is not the person I am.”

Here’s the full message:

To the people I insulted, I apologize, seeing myself online opened my eyes — the manner in which I expressed myself is unacceptable and is not the person I am. I see my words and actions hurt people, and for that I am deeply sorry.

While people should be able to express themselves freely, they should do so calmly and respectfully. What the video did not convey is the real me, I am not racist. One of the reasons I moved to New York is precisely because of the remarkable diversity offered in this wonderful city.

I love this country and this city, in part because of immigrants and the diversity of cultures immigrants bring to this country. Again, my sincerest apologies to anyone and everyone I hurt.

Not to be cynical, but in all honesty, what other move could he make without being a pariah now that he’s so famous as a bigoted, racist?

The man who spoke so freely in that video does NOT love diversity.

By the way, check out the ratio between “Likes” and “Comments” on Schlossberg’s tweet. When you’re that upside-down, you’re not getting high fives in the Comment section.

Some reaction from the Twitterverse:

NYC Lawyer Has A Problem With Speaking Spanish In Mid-Town

This video went viral yesterday showing a 30-something white male berating two women for speaking Spanish in a Manhattan lunch spot.

Again – two women having a private conversation at lunch speaking Spanish. Freedom of what?

The white guy decided you can only speak English in his presence. Even if he’s not a part of your conversation.

Watch.

It didn’t take the Twitterverse long to determine this guy happens to be New York City lawyer, Aaron Schlossberg.

And it didn’t take the New York Post and local station WPIX long to find the very opinionated Mr. Schlossberg today.

Life comes at you fast, huh, Aaron?

Heavy.com take a look into the man that is Aaron Schlossberg here.

It won’t surprise you to hear Mr. Schlossberg donated to Donald Trump’s campaign.

Intrepid Twitter folks found this older video from 2016 where Schlossberg called a complete stranger “an ugly fucking foreigner.” It seems Mr. Schlossberg likes yelling at people who are “different” from him.

Exec Who Penned Homophobic/Racist Olympic Op-Ed Is Out At Fox News

John Moody (via screen capture)

John Moody, the Fox News Channel executive who penned a divisive op-ed decrying the diversity of the U.S. Olympic team has resigned.

In February, Moody wrote, in part,  “Unless it’s changed overnight, the motto of the Olympics, since 1894, has been ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger.’ It appears the U.S. Olympic Committee would like to change that to ‘Darker, Gayer, Different.’ If your goal is to win medals, that won’t work.”

“Complaining that every team isn’t a rainbow of political correctness defeats the purpose of sports, which is competition,” he continued. “At the Olympic level, not everyone is a winner. Not everyone gets a little plastic trophy to take home.”

Moody went on to assert that the diversity of the U.S. Olympic team, which fielded the most Asian-American and African-American athletes ever assembled for a U.S. Winter Olympic team as well as our first two openly gay Winter Olympians, was merely a publicity stunt.

Fox News removed the op-ed and issued a statement saying the essay “does not reflect the views or values” of Fox News.

LGBT advocacy groups – including the Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, and the National Center for Lesbian Rights – all immediately denounced the essay

From The Hollywood Reporter:

“The executive vice president of Fox News targeted some of our nation’s top athletes with vicious anti-LGBTQ and biased rhetoric at what should be the proudest moment of their lives,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, president and CEO of GLAAD.

She continued: “These athletes are at the Olympics because they already won by qualifying to represent the United States on the world’s stage; and they did so despite facing discrimination from places like Fox News throughout their careers. Moody should not only apologize to the athletes and fans for this disgraceful post, but Fox News should open their site for diverse athletes to share their own personal stories and perspectives.”

Human Rights Campaign senior national press secretary Stephen Peters said the column is “the antithesis of what the Olympics are all about and an affront to the values of hard work and perseverance that Americans share.” He added, “The U.S.O.C. does not have quotas for its Olympic delegation, and to suggest that race, sexuality, or gender orientation are the reasons these incredible athletes made the cut is insulting, repugnant and dismissive of a lifetime of hard work.”

Catherine Sakimura, deputy director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, said the column’s “racist and homophobic sentiment demeans our U.S. Olympic athletes, who should be celebrated as they represent our country.”

Poll: 57% Of Americans Believe Donald Trump Is Racist

Donald Trump

A new poll by The Associated Press/NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows a majority of Americans believe Donald Trump is racist.

From the survey:

• 57% say Donald Trump is racist

• 85% of Democrats feel Trump is racist while only 21% of Republicans agree

• 57% say Trump’s policies have been bad for Muslims

• 56% say Trump’s policies have been bad for Hispanics

• 47% say Trump’s policies have been bad for African-Americans

This is the Associated Press, folks. They’re about as neutral, middle of the road, unbiased as you get.

Albuquerque Journal Publishes Racist “Dreamers” Political Cartoon, Issues Apology

(from Albuquerque Journal)

Umm, wow.

Check out the insanely racist cartoon above which ran yesterday in The Albuquerque Journal.

The paper has always had a conservative editorial board, but this is taking things to a whole different level.

The editor in chief published an apology today.

From The Albuquerque Journal:

Political cartoons are often satire and poke at more than one point of view. I do not presume to know what cartoonist Sean Delonas was trying to convey in his cartoon that was published in Wednesday’s Albuquerque Journal. But on one level it appeared to us to be poking at President Trump’s rhetoric by portraying a quaking Republican couple who were painting Dreamers with a broad, totally false, brush.

Obviously, that was not the message received by many readers. Instead, many saw an extremely objectionable cartoon and thought that was the position of the Journal. It is not.

In hindsight, instead of generating debate, this cartoon only inflamed emotions. This was not the intent, and for that, the Journal apologizes.

Trump Calls Haiti And African Countries “Shithole Countries” In Oval Office Meeting

How very presidential.

From The Washington Post:

President Trump grew frustrated with lawmakers Thursday in the Oval Office when they floated restoring protections for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartisan immigration deal, according to two people briefed on the meeting.

“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump said, according to these people, referring to African countries and Haiti. He then suggested that the United States should instead bring more people from countries like Norway, whose prime minister he met Wednesday.

The comments left lawmakers taken aback, according to people familiar with their reactions. Sens. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) proposed cutting the visa lottery program by 50 percent and prioritizing countries already in the system, a White House official said.

Now, let’s think: what’s the difference between folks from Norway and folks from Africa?

#RacistMuch?

The White House issued a statement which does not deny Trump’s statement.

The president will only accept an immigration deal that adequately addresses the visa lottery system and chain migration — two programs that hurt our economy and allow terrorists into our country.

Like other nations that have merit-based immigration, President Trump is fighting for permanent solutions that make our country stronger by welcoming those who can contribute to our society, grow our economy, and assimilate into our great nation.

He will always reject temporary, weak, and dangerous stopgap measures that threaten the lives of hardworking Americans, and undercut immigrants who seek a better life in the United States through a legal pathway.

White Nationalist Nevadan: “I’m Not The Angry Racist” You See In That Photo

University of Reno student Peter Cvjetanovic
attending hate rally in Charlottesville, Virginia

Among the thousands who traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia, to proudly proclaim their white supremacist views was 20 year-old Reno resident Peter Cvjetanovic.

Cvjetanovic is an undergraduate at the University of Reno-Nevada studying history and political science.

From KTNV News in Reno:

“I came to this march for the message that white European culture has a right to be here just like every other culture, “Cvjetanovic says. “It is not perfect; there are flaws to it, of course. However I do believe that the replacement of the statue will be the slow replacement of white heritage within the United States and the people who fought and defended and built their homeland. Robert E Lee is a great example of that. He wasn’t a perfect man, but I want to honor and respect what he stood for during his time.”

Photos of Cvjetanovic protesting circulated on social media, denouncing Cvjetanovic as a racist.

“I did not expect the photo to be shared as much as it was. I understand the photo has a very negative connotation. But I hope that the people sharing the photo are willing to listen that I’m not the angry racist they see in that photo.”

However Cvjetanovic, a self-proclaimed white nationalist, defends his beliefs.

“As a white nationalist, I care for all people. We all deserve a future for our children and for our culture. White nationalists aren’t all hateful; we just want to preserve what we have.”

Saturday’s protests left 3 people dead and several injured, click here for the full details.

Trump Supporter’s Racist Rant Inspires $32K Gift For Store Manager

Trump supporter Jennifer Boyle

Here’s some holiday cheer to help you believe in the human race.

You’ll recall last week I wrote about a hideous woman at a Michael’s crafts store in Chicago – a self-identified “Trump supporter” – who went on an insane 45 minute rant on store employees and customers over having to pay $1 for shopping bag.

The woman, identified as Jennifer Boyle, verbally assaulted the manager of the store using labels like “animal” and a “lying piece of shit” the day before Thanksgiving. Ms. Boyle apparently has a history of verbally abusing employees of retail stores she frequents.

The manager, who handled the episode with seriously professional patience, has been identified only as Holli.

A customer who witnessed the verbal abuse, Jessie Grady, videoed the attack and uploaded it online.

In the aftermath of the horrible behavior by Boyle, Grady set up a GoFundMe campaign to try and honor Holli’s grace under fire, writing, “I am starting this gofundme because I’d like to do something to try to make it up to the employee who was the main target of this racist attack.”

Initially, Grady set a goal of $400 to do something nice for Holli.

Just to show you a good deed can be recognized, the total of the campaign has just passed $32,000!

According to Grady, Holli is working towards her Master’s degree in psychology so she could pursue her dream of becoming a professional guidance counselor. She also has currently has a second job knitting scarves and hats for homeless teens.

While keeping a low profile, Holli did post this message on the GoFundMe page:

I’ll start with this. I am in utter shock. You have all single handedly changed my life. Each of you have shown me that this world is worth living in. I have felt so misguided in a sense of why can’t I get passed where I am. I’ve tried to be kind, I’ve tried to be fair, I’ve tried to share regardless if I was able to. I want others to smile when I smile back at them. Knowing deeply we all have a higher purpose. How can I help!!

For some time now, I’ve felt this overwhelming sense of failure. I want to make a positive change in this world. I know what I’m here for and that’s to help others reach their higher potential. With your support I have been blessed with the opportunity to live and not just survive daily. I can properly provide for my family and meet all our children’s needs. I will now have the ability to get my business up and running in order to provide a better future for us. And I can still give back to my community even more now.

You have personally contributed to SO much more than you could possible know.

I ask that you please forgive me as I’m a little afraid to make a public video. Just know that from my soul to yours. You will be blessed for this act of unconditional kindness. I never thought my ginormous dreams would become a reality so soon and at the hand of others, but with your support I can now take the steps needed to build a better future. Because of you this dark world has a lot more light in it.
Not to preach at you or push spirituality at you. That being said I pray that you gain real fulfillment in your life. I don’t know you but I love you. It’s weird to some people but whatever, I believe we are one people so if I love myself therefore I love you. We’ve been taught that what we do unto others, we receive in return.

A great teacher of mine has said “All forms of pain, suffering, illness or financial chaos are there to promote spiritual growth and character change.” We are the change. You are this change. We stand together side by side in truth and know love trumps hate. Blessings to you may your light continue to break through the darkness.
