The Late Show Spoofs Rachel Maddow’s Preamble Technique

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert nails this parody of Rachel Maddow’s tendency to go on at length in introducing a topic before finally getting to the actual topic.

Some folks were a bit disappointed Tuesday night after Maddow’s much-hyped reveal of Donald Trump’s taxes turned out to be only two pages from 12 years ago.

The episode attracted 4.13 million viewers, her biggest audience ever.

While some compared the moment with Geraldo Rivera’s infamous unearthing of Al Capone’s vault, others thought it masterful by drawing in the viewers (including Trump supporters) and using the preamble to review her recent investigation into Trump’s Russian ties.

With my short attention span, I do sometimes find her openings too long, but she always has a point she’s heading to.

Watch Colbert demonstrate the “Maddow method” below:

Rachel Maddow Talks Trump Tax Returns, Trump Pretends No One Has Heard Of Pulitzer Prize Winning Author

Last night, Rachel Maddow almost blew up Twitter with the news that she had in her possession “Donald Trump’s tax returns.”

In truth, it was two pages of Trump’s 2005 tax returns. The pages were sent anonymously to Pulitzer Prize winning, New York Times best selling author David Cay Johnston, who sat down with Maddow to discuss what the return could tell American voters about their new president.

The White House actually put out a statement in advance of Maddow’s show which confirmed the information.

The very short version is that Trump paid $36 million in taxes on $153 million adjusted gross income. So, about 25% tax rate. About what most middle class folks pay percentage-wise.

Reminder – Trump is the first President in four decades to refuse to release his returns, even though he promised on many occasions to do so.

For the full breakdown of the tax returns by Johnston, click here.

Watch below as Maddow and Johnston discuss the documents:

Folks are wondering where the tax return came from, and it’s been considered by a lot of folks that Trump himself, or an aide, sent the pages as a distraction from his current White House woes. As we all know, Trump used to “leak” info on himself to New York City newspapers under an assumed name often back in the 80s and 90s.

This morning, the Donald at least feigned anger tweeting, “Does anybody really believe that a reporter, who nobody ever heard of, “went to his mailbox” and found my tax returns? @NBCNews FAKE NEWS!”

Reminder: Johnston is a Pulitzer Prize winning author with New York Times best-sellers to his credit. A LOT of folks have heard of him.

Johnston replied to the tweet thusly:

Johnston also shared last night that his family was allegedly threatened by Trump supporters:

Now. Can we get back to Trump’s allegations of wire tapping and the American Health Care Act which won’t be passing in it’s present form?

Maddow: Donald Trump Lied About Intelligence Report Concluding “No Effect” On Election

Immediately after Donald Trump came out of his classified intelligence briefing on Putin’s Russian cyber-hacking of the DNC, he falsely claimed the report ‘concluded’ the hacking did not have any effect on the election & that it found the Russian hackers were ‘unable’ to hack the RNC!

Both of those claims were utterly false & deliberate LIES! Donald has no idea what the truth or facts are.

Watch as Rachel Maddow calls Trump a liar more times than you can count.

Rachel Maddow Asks Ted Cruz Campaign About “Kill The Gays” Rally Appearance

Rachel Maddow reports on Ted Cruz, Republican presidential candidate, avoiding directly addressing his association with religious extremists who cited the Bible as justifying executing homosexuals and abortion doctors.

According to Maddow, Cruz’s campaign asked for evidence that the anti-gay rant occurred: “Send me a video or audio where he explicitly says this and I will look at it.”

Video of the vile speech wasn’t enough for Cruz’s people, though. The campaign responded with two words: “Not explicit.”

I think the speech is clear as can be. It goes without saying that it would appear that even “implicit” calls for executing gays would be coolio with Cruz.

Rachel Maddow’s Gleeful Reaction To Franklin Graham’s Epic Bank Fail

Rachel Maddow shares her gleeful response to the epic fail by evangelist Franklin Graham, who took umbrage at Wells Fargo’s latest LGBT inclusive ad.

From his Facebook page: “Have you ever asked yourself – how can we fight the tide of moral decay that is being crammed down our throats by big business, the media, and the gay & lesbian community?”

Graham took all of his company’s account out of Wells Fargo (after the above online rant) and moved them to another bank, BB&T.

Then it turned out BB&T is just as LGBT supportive as Wells Fargo in that the bank is a platinum sponsor of Miami Beach Gay Pride and much more.

#EpicFail

Rachel’s upbeat reaction to the whole escapade is pretty fun.

“I love this story so much I want to take it to Franklin Graham’s new bank and marry it. If it’s a lady.”

Rachel Maddow debunks idea that US Presidents have never appeared on comedy shows

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow debunks the assertion of some political pundits on the right that President Barack Obama’s appearance on the Funny or Die web video “Between Two Ferns” debased the office of the presidency.

Maddow features Presidents Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George W. Bush – all who appeared with popular comedians at some point in their presidency.

As Maddow says, if you are concerned about the “dignity of the presidency” being imperiled by these appearances, “you should probably lighten up.”
