Prince Harry defends young gay soldier in new book “Out in the Army”

Prince Harry of England

In Britain, Trooper James Wharton has written about his experiences alongside Prince Harry in his new book Out in the Army. In 2009, Wharton became the first homosexual soldier to appear on the front of the Armed Forces magazine.

Included in the book, Wharton describes an incident where Harry stood up to other members of the infantry for anti-gay behavior. From the Telegraph:

Trooper Wharton went to find the Prince and tearfully told him “I think I’m going to be murdered by the infantry,” the Mail on Sunday reported.

As he explained what had happened Harry had a “complete look of bewilderment” on his face and responded: “Right I’m going to sort this out once and for all.”

Moments later Trooper Wharton poked his head out of the tank to “see him having a go”.

“I could see he wasn’t holding back,” added Trooper Wharton, who was 21 at the time and has since left the forces.

Harry, a Troop Commander in the Blues and Royals, informed a senior officer of what was happening before assuring the soldier that it was “sorted”.

Trooper Wharton, who was on training in Canada with the Prince at the time of the 2008 incident, said: “I will always be grateful to Harry and I will never forget what happened. Until he went over and dealt with everything I was on track for a battering.”

Prince Harry ordered to lose the “Prince Hairy” look by the Queen

The Queen of England has apparently decreed that “Prince Hairy” return to his clean-shaven state of Prince Harry.

While he was allowed to keep the fur through the holidays so his girlfriend Cressida Bonas could enjoy, the Queen “strongly advises” her staff to not grow beards as she feels it look unkempt and not very professional.

According to a report in the Sunday Express by royal writer Phil Dampier, the Queen “soon let her displeasure be known” with Harry’s rugged new look and reportedly thinks it is difficult to enforce the no-beards rule when her own grandson has grown one.

And so, the royal “polar beard” must go.

I think he looks rather handsome with the fur.

Prince Harry gives candid interview regarding military service and the Vegas nude pics

Prince Harry recently finished his four month stint in Afghanistan.

In this pretty candid interview, he discusses life at Camp Bastion as an Apache helicopter pilot and gunner, his distaste for the British press plus touches on the Las Vegas naked picture episode.

The NYT reports:

At one stage in the interview, Prince Harry said that he was not troubled by killing militants. “Take a life to save a life,” he said. “If there’s people trying to do bad stuff to our guys, then we’ll take them out of the game.”

In another edit of the footage, posted online by The Guardian, Prince Harry, who is known as Captain Wales in the army, explained that he was glad to have been “pushed forward to the front seat,” the one reserved for the attack helicopter’s gunner. That was, he said, “a joy for me because I’m one of those people that loves playing PlayStation and Xbox, so with my thumbs I like to think I’m probably quite useful — if you ask the guys I thrash them at FIFA the whole time,” referring to a popular video game series.

He also says that Prince William is jealous of his military career, and comments on the nude photos of him partying in Las Vegas:

“I probably let myself down, I let my family down, I let other people down…but at the end of the day, I was in a private area and there should be a certain amount of privacy that one should expect…It was probably a classic example of me probably being too much army, and not enough prince. It’s a simple case of that.”
