California: Marriage equality shows strong support 58% vs 36%

A new Los Angeles Times poll shows a 22% spread between supporters and opponents of marriage equality in California:

The poll found that 58% of the state’s registered voters believe same-sex marriage should be legal, compared with 36% against, a margin of 22 points. When the same pollsters asked that question three years ago, 52% favored gay marriage and 40% opposed it, a 12-point spread.

Most national polls this year have found majority support, but only one of those surveys reported it as high as 58%. The average was roughly 51% in favor of gay marriage. As in the rest of the country, more women (63%) than men (52%) in California favor same-sex marriage.

Younger California voters also support gay marriage by larger margins than older voters, the poll found. Whereas 76% of voters ages 18 to 29 support legalizing the unions, only 52% of those ages 50 to 64 agree.

Public isn’t buying into Washington “scandals” as President Obama’s approval continues to rise

Very interesting development here.

After a week of Benghazi, IRS, and Associated Press phone records “scandals,” you’d think the GOP would be gleeful at bringing down President Obama in the public’s eyes.

Kinda not the case.

In fact, the President’s approval ratings have gone UP while the GOP’s numbers have dropped.

A new CNN poll shows that President Obama’s approval rating is at 53%, up two points from the previous poll.

Clearly, the American people are not buying into the false narrative promulgated by the media and the Republican Party, as a majority of respondents believe that the president and his statements on the “scandals” are “mostly true.”  The GOP was not so lucky.  From the CNN poll:

The poll found that 59 percent of respondents view the GOP unfavorably, a record that has only shown up one other time in the poll’s results since tracking began in 1992.

The Republican Party’s net favorability ratings are down 8 points in the past two months. The amount of respondents viewing the GOP favorably fell from 38 percent to 35 percent, while the number of people who view the party unfavorably climbed five points, up from 54 percent in March.

A Wall Street Journal/NBC poll showed similar results. When asked their approval on what each is proposing to do, 45% approve of President Obama’s proposals, only 29% approve of the congressional GOP proposals. Check out the video below:

Poll: President Obama’s approval rating ticks up in spite of recent politicized news stories

Despite all of the GOP screaming in recent weeks, a new CNN poll released yesterday shows that the president’s approval rating has improved slightly or stayed the same.

According to the survey, which was conducted Friday and Saturday, 53% of Americans say they approve of the job the president is doing, with 45% saying they disapprove. The president’s approval rating was at 51% in CNN’s last poll, which was conducted in early April.

“That two-point difference is well within the poll’s sampling error, so it is a mistake to characterize it as a gain for the president,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

“Nonetheless, an approval rating that has not dropped and remains over 50% will probably be taken as good news by Democrats after the events of the last week.”

CNN’s poll result mirrors the one released last week by Gallup.

Another poll shows a majority of Americans support marriage equality

New Quinnipiac poll puts same-sex marriage support at 50 percent:

“Fifty-percent of American voters support same-sex marriage, while 41 percent oppose it and the remaining 9 percent are unsure or did not answer, according to a Quinnipiac University Polling Institute survey released on Thursday.

It’s the first time support has reached the 50 percent threshold for Quinnipiac.

Post-debate polls show President Obama clear winner

According to a CBS snap poll 53% of uncommitted voters handed the night to Obama, while only 23% said Romney was the winner, and 24% are undecided.

PPP’s post debate poll in the swing states, conducted on behalf of Americans United for Change, finds that Barack Obama was the big winner in tonight’s face off. 53% of those surveyed in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin think Obama was the winner to 42% who pick Romney.

According to CNN, 48% of registered voters who watched Monday night’s third presidential debate say that Obama won the showdown, with 40% saying Romney did the better job in a debate dedicated to foreign policy. The president’s eight-point advantage over the former Massachusetts governor came among a debate audience that was slightly more Republican than the country as a whole.

President Obama and Mitt Romney tied in new NBC poll

President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney are tied nationally, according to a new poll from NBC News and the Wall Street Journal.

Obama and Romney are tied at 47 percent amongst likely voters, and Obama leads 49 percent to Romney’s 44 percent among registered voters.

Nate Silver sees surge for Romney in polls

Nate Silver, of FiveThirtyEight, sees the Presidential campaign tightening clearly due to the first Obama/Romney debate.

But while we’re seeing tightening, Nate still sees the President at a 75% chance of winning. Should the Obama campaign stop the bleeding from the first debate, beginning with VP Joe Biden giving a strong performance at the VP debate this Thursday, things could definitely settle.

Everyone knew this would be a tight race. It’s basically where it was months ago.

What will matter will be swing states, like Ohio.

President Obama leads in Ohio 51%-47% according to a poll released Tuesday by CNN.
