Olivia Newton-John concert in Palm Springs

Great times all around last night at Olivia Newton-John’s concert in Palm Springs (technically Indio, but folks may not know Indio, so I’m going by Palm Springs…) at the Fantasy Springs Casino Events Center.

First of all, ONJ is in amazing voice. The entire concert was extremely well sung. I’m so used to the idea that as some singers get older, the voice often loses some flexibility and range. Completely the opposite with Olivia – her voice continues to get better and better. Some of the highlights were Olivia’s high, high soprano finish to “Jolene,” and her full belt ending to “Weightless.”

But my personal favorites were the last two songs of the evening, “Grace and Gratitude” and “I Honestly Love You.” After two hours, she was not only in fine singing form but her interpretations were art. Connected, personal, and heartfelt. Just fab.

I also loved seeing other fans of Olivia’s that I’ve gotten to know over the years – David, Mykel, Todd, Virginia…  I can’t remember every name so if I forget one it’s just me being formerly blond.  But it was great seeing everyone.  Only thing I don’t like about these situations is we had to get backstage after the concert so we didn’t have a huge amount of time to catch up.  But glad we had time to chat with folks even if it was short 🙁

Backstage we caught up with not only Leeza Gibbons (who’s a friend of Olivia’s for many years going back to the Great Walk fundraiser in China for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre) but Lindsay Wagner, the original Bionic Woman! I’m not usually star struck but I’ve been a fan of Lindsay’s my whole life it seems. She spent a few minutes catching up with Olivia, and I have to admit this was one photo op I wasn’t missing.

I won’t go on too much, but I will say: if Olivia is performing near you (this is a 30+ city tour), GO! Great music and great times. You can find her tour cities by clicking here.

Backstage view from Olivia Newton-John at Chicago’s Market Days

A collection of pics of Olivia Newton-John performing at Chicago’s “Market Days”.

A reports coming in that the crowd was insane!  Olivia and her backup singers Marlen Landin, Steve Real and Matt Zarley look like they had a great time too… 🙂

Click the pics for a larger view. Will post more as they come in.

Thanks to Mindy Verson for sharing her pics!

I love that you can see Michael in his white shirt offstage right

How about that crowd?
End of Summer Night with Steve Real, Matt Zarley singing backup

My husband, Michael Caprio, is busy today…

Michael has two clients performing at Northalstead Market Days in Chicago today.

First up is singer/songwriter Matt Zarley, then just a bit later is Olivia Newton-John.  Matt will be joining Olivia onstage as a “guest T-Bird” for the GREASE songs.

As always, Michael is working via cell phone anytime he’s in a car and not driving.

If you’re in Chicago, don’t miss Matt Zarley or Olivia!  It’s something like $8 suggested entrance to what is the best street festival in the mid-west.  Can’t do better than that! Plus you get Sheena Easton and a host of other fab musical talent – in one of the greatest cities in the world.

Me?  I’m holding down the fort with the dogs at the pool…

Olivia Newton-John, Richard Marx, Sara Bareilles, Joey Lawrence hang in Chicago

Olivia Newton-John, in Chicago for an appearance at Northalstead Market Days, spent a little down time with fellow recording artists Sara Bareilles, Joey Lawrence and Richard Marx.

Apparently the gathering was an impromptu “Are you in town? Come on over!” kind of affair. Gotta say this, they all are looking pretty fab.

Julianne Hough talks about having a career like Olivia Newton-John

The NY Daily News declares Julianne Hough is the new Olivia Newton-John.

From the NY Daily News: “At the Peggy Siegal Company’s special screening of “Rock of Ages” at Landmark Theatres Sunshine Cinema on Wednesday, we told Hough that her winning performance in the movie reminded us of Newton-John in “Grease.” The Utah hottie replied that she was happy to hear that because, early in her career, she told her management “I would love to have a career like Olivia’s. I like the idea of being able to be both sexy and sweet.”

Olivia and Julianne have actually met before when Julianne attended a concert by Olivia in Nashville, TN, a few years ago, both looking very beautiful.

Paramount’s 100th Anniversary in Vanity Fair Magazine

Cameron Diaz, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey, JR., Olivia Newton-John, John Travolta, Robert De Niro and Tom Cruise were among the movie superstars who gathered at Paramount Studios’ fabled Lot 18 for an eye-popping ‘class’ photo to celebrate the film Mecca’s 100th birthday.

Photographer Art Streiber shot the star-studded group snap for Vanity Fair.

The epic moment wasn’t lost on Charlize Theron: “There are moments in your life where you find yourself in circumstances where you just have to pinch yourself. I got to rest my hand on Harrison Ford’s shoulder, while Steven Spielberg was standing next to me – not too shabby.”

In total 116 superstars and movie executives turned up for the once-in-a-lifetime shoot, photographed on the soundstage that housed the Star Trek TV and movie franchises.
