ObamaCare explained
It just sounds terrible, doesn’t it?
President Obama quotes the absurd lies used by crazed GOP opponents of Obamacare
Quoting the opponents, kids. Quoting them.
Democrats say “Let’s sit down and negotiate” and the Tea Baggers rabidly yell “Shut down the government!!!”
Watch the clip, folks. The President quotes the opponents and in doing so underlines why the anti-Obamacare folks have no credibility. They just MAKE STUFF UP.
“One congressman said that Obamacare is the most dangerous piece of legislation ever passed,” Obama said in Largo, Md. “Ever, in the history of America, this is the most dangerous piece of legislation. Providing — creating a marketplace so people can buy group insurance plan, the most dangerous ever.”
“You had a state representative somewhere say that it’s as destructive to personal and individual liberty as the Fugitive Slave Act,” he added. “Think about that. Affordable health care is worse than a law that lets slave owners get their runaway slaves back. I mean, these are quotes. I’m not making this stuff up.”
“And here’s one more that I’ve heard. I like this one. We have to, and I’m quoting here, we have to repeal this failure before it literally kills women, kills children, kills senior citizens,” an incredulous Obama said. “Now, I have to say, that one was from six months ago. I just want to point out we still have women, we still have children, we still have senior citizens. All this would be funny if it wasn’t so crazy.”

Fox News Sunday receives “research ammo” on Sen. Ted Cruz by fellow GOPers
![]() |
| Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas |
So it seems establishment Republicans are not happy with Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. So much so that they are sending ammunition to “hammer” him with before his appearance on Fox News Sunday:
“Since we announced that Ted Cruz was going to be on the show, I’ve been getting background research and questions going after Cruz not from Democrats but from other Republicans,” Wallace said on Fox 5. “They really feel he has put them in this corner that they can’t get out of gracefully and they’re not very happy with him.”
Cruz has been pushing the defund Obamacare movement for months, but after House Speaker John Boehner decided his caucus would go along with his plan and pass a budget without Obamacare funding, Cruz suddenly balked, admitting he didn’t have the votes to pass the bill in the Senate.

House Republicans vote to defund Obamacare with threat to shut down the government
House Republicans passed legislation today to defund Obamacare while keeping the federal government open until December 15, sending the fight to the Senate.
The vote was 230-189. Two Democrats and one Republican broke party lines.
“Let’s defund this law now and protect the American people from the economic calamity that we know Obamacare will create,” House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) said in a speech before the vote on the House floor. “We should pass this continuing resolution so the Senate can finally begin to do the same.”
There is virtually no chance Obamacare will be defunded. Senate Democrats have ruled it out, and the White House has threatened to veto legislation that does so.
And so continues the House Republicans’ constant waste of taxpayers time when our lawmakers should be working to improve the economy, not attack ObamaCare as a way to a try and “bring down” a President who has been elected and reelected. It happened, folks. It happened. You’ll never change that history. Get to the work of the people.
Best line from the debate – “I invite my colleagues wake up from this radical, ideological wet dream,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) said before the vote.

Teabaggers enlist “Creepy Uncle Sam” to scare young people from Obamacare
Well, if this doesn’t make the teabaggers look crazy. Now they introduce “Creepy Uncle Sam” giving an exam to a young woman at a OB/GYN exam. From Yahoo News:
Generation Opportunity, a Virginia-based group that is part of a coalition of right-leaning organizations with financial ties to billionaire businessmen and political activists Charles and David Koch, will launch a six-figure campaign aimed at convincing young people to “opt-out” of the Obamacare exchanges. Later this month, the group will begin a tour of 20 college campuses, where they plan to set up shop alongside pro-Obamacare activists such as Enroll America that are working to sign people up for the insurance exchanges.
Generation Opportunity intends to host events at college football tailgate parties festivals, where “brand ambassadors” (read: hot young people) will pass out beer koozies that read “opt out,” pizza and literature about the health care law. Some events may have impromptu dance parties with DJ’s, complete with games of cornhole and competitions for prizes, organizers said.
Men don’t get off scot-free either. There’s a similar video for men where “Creepy Uncle Sam” shows up to apparently give a prostate exam.
Creepy, creepy, creepy.
And hard core teabaggers aren’t happy about it either. Check out the comments on Twitchy.

White House to hold briefing on ObamaCare and the LGBT community
The Affordable Care Act could truly transform the health and well-being of the LGBT community for generations to come, and the upcoming open enrollment period in the Health Insurance Marketplace – from October 2013 to March 2014 – provides an important opportunity to get folks enrolled.

And you can watch it live from home! Tune in to http://whitehouse.gov/live on Thursday, September 13th, starting at 1:15 p.m. EDT.

House Republicans vote for the 40th time to repeal ObamaCare to no avail
Before heading off into their 5 week summer vacay, House Republicans took another run – the 40th – at “repealing” ObamaCare. And just as before, the vote accomplished nothing but to waste the people’s time.
From the Huffington Post:
The Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act of 2013, sponsored by Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), would block the Internal Revenue Service from enforcing or implementing any portion of President Barack Obama’s signature health care reform law. It passed 232 to 185, with all Republicans voting for it and four Democrats -– Reps. John Barrow (Ga.), Jim Matheson (Utah), Mike McIntyre (N.C.) and Collin Peterson (Minn.) — siding with them. Six Republicans didn’t vote.
Democrats railed against their Republican colleagues on the House floor for spending valuable time on the vote.
“I suspect we don’t want to call them the Republicans anymore, but I think we ought to call them the Repeal-icans. Or perhaps the Repeal-ican’ts, because they’ve never been able to repeal anything,” said Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.).
“They have one alternative to Obamacare. It’s called NothingCare,” added Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas). Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) chimed in that the American public has “seen this movie before.”
Considering Republicans said they wanted to focus on “jobs, jobs, jobs” when they took control of the House, it makes you wonder why they’ve spent so much time voting on repealing a law that has no chance of being repealed. Senate Majority leader Harry Reid has stated that the bill will not be brought up in the Senate.
The law is already doing good things for Americans including helping young people stay on their parents insurance longer as they get on their feet; keeping folks from being dropped from their insurance due to pre-existing conditions; and helping to lower insurance rates in many states.

Stephen Colbert roasts FreedomWorks on “burning ObamaCare cards” campaign
Stephen Colbert takes on uber-conservative anti-ObamaCare FreedomWorks folks who are encouraging people to “burn their ObamaCare cards.”
Of course, as Colbert reminds us, there’s no such thing.

Companies take big profit hit for anti-Obamacare politicking
It seems American consumers don’t like companies that publicly threaten the employees income because of their CEO’s politics getting involved.
From Forbes:
According to YouGov BrandIndex, a leading marketing survey that measures brand perception in the marketplace (called “Buzz”), Papa John’s had good reason for concern as the pizza chain’s brand identity has plummeted from a high of 32 on election day, to a remarkably low score of 4 among adults who have eaten at causal dining restaurants during the past month.
Fast food server, Applebee’s, possessed a healthy Buzz score of 35 before Zane Terkel, CEO of one of the company’s largest franchisees, appeared on television to complain about the law and to announce that he would not be building more restaurants or hiring any more workers in response to his objections to Obamacare.
Applebee’s “pre-Terkel” Buzz score of 35 now sits at a pathetic 5.
