Lady Gaga to have the last dance at Roseland

The NY Daily News is reporting Lady Gaga will close the famed Roseland in NYC with four concerts in late March/April:

Gaga plans to play four shows at the 3,500-capacity venue: Mar. 28, 30, 31 and Apr. 2. Tickets go on sale Monday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m. Prices range from $50 for general admission floor access to $200 for the mezzanine.

Roseland has operated at various times in the city since it opened in 1919, in a space located right around the corner from its current location on 52nd St., west of Broadway. The ballroom ascended with the upswing of jazz in the ‘20s and ‘30s, hosting shows by Louis Armstrong, Count Basie (who had a song called “Roseland Shuffle”), Harry James, Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller.

As an actor in NYC, many was the time I reported to Roseland as the “holding area” for extras for film work. The couches and different areas made for a very comfortable place to hang between set ups.

Check out the pic of their first meeting at the Mayor’s offices.

Oy. Can you say “chilly”?

Heading home from NYC

Whoa!

I’ve been in NYC for a quick two day trip celebrating my 19th anniversary with hubby Michael. And what a trip!

Stayed at The Out, the fab and stylish boutique hotel that markets directly to the LGBT community; saw the amazing tour de force that is Betty Buckley in the Signature Theatre’s world premiere of “The Old Friends;” saw great friends Mykel McCarthy, Ashley Stover, Kat Murphy and more; and now headed back to Vegas in the “car” Michael arranged. See the pics. I literally laughed out loud. I’m blogging from the limo now since it’s equipped with wifi.

What an anniversary this was.

Whoo-hoo!

NYC: David Drake at the Laurie Beechman Theater in TAWNY TELL ME TRUE

Don’t miss David Drake in TAWNY TELL ME TRUE for three performances only beginning tonight at The Laurie Beechman Theatre at West Bank Cafe, 407 West 42 Street, in NYC.

Drake returns as bubbly starlet Tawny Heatherton, a lovably eccentric showbiz survivor and “one hit wonder” of the disco zeitgeist of the early 1980s — famous for her memorable international pop hit “Run Crazy Man.” Tawny brings her singular blonde-swept brand of sunny, funny optimism while singing songs and recalling stories of alien abduction, her days as a child star on “Dark Shadows,” and reuniting with her long-lost aunt Joey Heatherton at the Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino.

You can check out my recent interview with David on The Candi & Randy Show below. David shares the history and “philosophy” of Tawny, plus his recent 20th anniversary gala performance of his iconic, Obie Award-winning play, THE NIGHT LARRY KRAMER KISSED ME.

NYC: Bill de Blasio has 50 point lead in mayoral race

Mr. De Blasio, a Democrat, received the support of 71 percent of likely voters, compared with 21 percent for Mr. Lhota, the poll found. The Independence Party candidate, Adolfo Carrión Jr., received 2 percent.

The poll, conducted from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, showed Mr. de Blasio, the city’s public advocate, with a comfortable lead among white voters and an enormous one among blacks and Hispanics. Only 5 percent of likely voters remained undecided, and less than a tenth of those who favored Mr. de Blasio said there was a good chance they would change whom they supported.

Both De Blasio and Lhota have released the first campaign ads.

NYC: Anti-gay 22 year old stabs gay man in broad daylight

Steven Torres, a 22-year-old Bronx man, has been charged with second-degree murder as a hate crime for stabbing 69-year-old Edward Orozco of Queens to death under the elevated 7 train subway station at 90th and Roosevelt in Queens at 1:30 pm on Monday.

According to NY Daily News reports on what set Torres off:

“He (Torres) said the victim was blowing kisses to him. That’s what set him off,” a source said. “This is what he is claiming.”

Police say Torres tried to run from the scene before they apprehended him.  The assailant reportedly said nothing as he attacked his victim, but laughed when he was finally caught.

“He was laughing, yes,” witness Julio Lobaton said. “He was laughing like nothing”.

According to the NYPD, Torres has also been charged with the stabbing of a second man, which occurred on September 12th inside 9 Stanton Street near Bowery, because, reportedly, Torres believed that a 47 year old unidentified man was making sexual advances toward him. The second man survived the injuries.

Opening night – Betty Buckley’s dressing table

I don’t I can even explain how much I love this pic…

Betty Buckley shared this pic on her Instagram (if you don’t follow her there, you’re really missing out).

Something about the energy of an opening night in NYC with a new play, etc, etc…  You can just see the exuberance in Betty Lynn’s face.

And then there’s the perfect “Texas” hair – which Betty would know something about, don’t you know?

p.s. did I mention she got RAVE reviews…?
