The Fortune Teller – 50 years of gay in 5 minutes

The Fortune Teller is comprised of over 50 years of imagery and footage. The 5-minute clip took six months to film and assemble, and is made up of 100 carefully selected clips.

The Fortune Teller is a film by gay artist/activist Leo Herrera, chronicling milestones and icons of the modern gay man.

The story is told through the trance of The Fortune Teller (played by Stanley Frank) and created using archival and modern footage.

The film is a documentary, a time capsule, an homage to psychedelic films of the 1960′s and the modern art of the YouTube Montage film;  a kaleidoscopic five-minute journey through more than 50 years of gay history.

Trailer: “Test”

TEST, by writer/director Chris Mason Johnson, premieres at the Seattle International Film Festival on June 7, 2013.

From the film’s official website:

TEST is a poignant, powerful story of friendship and hope in a time of crisis, set in the San Francisco modern dance scene of 1985 in the early years of the AIDS epidemic: when headlines threatened a gay quarantine, when nobody knew for certain how the disease spread, when dancers were afraid to touch each other because they might get it from sweat…

The early history of the epidemic is big and complicated, and there are untold stories that frame the subject in a different light and need to be heard now as well.

TEST is one of these.

I was just beginning my career as a dancer in 1985, and I remember the fear and whispers at the time. A sad and dark period for a sad and dark issue.

Trailer: “Gravity” starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock

Oh jeez, this jump-started my “slow coffee” wake-up. The movie trailer is not intended for viewing during a quiet morning in bed. I love both actors, but I don’t know how I could get through this movie. I think it would scare me to death. Too many issues with being abandoned or trapped… (heart still pounding a bit…)

“Gravity” – a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space.

Directed by Alfonso Cuarón and starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.

The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left.

But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Opening 18th October, 2013.

Trailer: “The Butler”

Last September Oprah published the above photo to her Instagram account from the set of The Butler, which she was filming at the time. With her are the film’s director Lee Daniels (Precious), Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan, and Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan.  The cast also includes Cuba Gooding Jr, John Cusack, Robin Williams, and more huge stars.

The film is based on the life of Eugene Allen who served eight presidents as the head butler at the White House from 1952-1986.

Just take a look at the trailer. This is clearly something I will not be missing… 🙂

Trailer: Channing Tatum in WHITE HOUSE DOWN

“How do you lose a rocket launcher???”

Folks are sometimes surprised when I share that my favorite movies are adventure/action movies. Romantic movies usually make me uncomfortable because they generally require folks to look dumb or awkward in some way. Not my thing.

Channing Tatum is definitely “my thing.” The mix of humor and action works for me 🙂

I’ll be seeing this day one on June 28th.

Official Description:
While on a tour of the White House with his young daughter, a police officer (Channing Tatum) springs into action to protect his child and the president (Jamie Foxx) from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders. Co-starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods and Joey King.
