10-year-old Charlotte Bell was a guest at the White House’s Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day event with Mrs. Obama.
When it was Charlotte’s turn to speak during a Q&A, this is what happened:
“My dad’s been out of a job for three years and I wanted to give you his résumé,” Charlotte said. Obama seemed surprised, then invited the girl on stage and gave her a hug. “Oh my goodness,” Obama said while hugging Charlotte.
Every First Lady has their platform, or pet project, during the time their husband is in office.
Michelle Obama’s current platform is encouraging kids to get out and move. Not sit in front of the computer or video games, but to get up and out and move.
And drink more water.
Healthy, easy initiative that everyone can get behind.

The right-wing zealots are SCREAMING about how “embarrassing” it is that the First Lady appeared in this Tonight Show skit with Jimmy Fallon and Will Ferrell to promote her campaign for healthy eating choices and exercise.
Wow. What a TOTALLY terrible thing to do…?

Today, on his radio show, Rush Limbaugh made fun of First Lady Michelle Obama as over-weight while he perused a picture from last night’s state dinner with French President Francois Hollande.
“There is Michelle Obama and the $12,000 gown by Carolina Herrera, and the French president Hollande is in the middle, and there’s Obama. You’ll notice that this dress is bigger than the president of France.
“Here, let me make one more adjustment here and I’ll show you this again. Take a look at that picture. The little guy in the middle is the socialist dictator — well, not dictator. He’s the socialist president of France.
“On the left, that’s not Oprah. Don’t confuse that. That’s Michelle Obama. I saw a picture of this from the rear. That’s why I thought it was Oprah. I did.”
Limbaugh and other right wing conservative nuts are very, very perturbed that the Obamas hosted a formal state dinner while the president campaigns against income inequality.
Now – those inconvenient facts that right wingers don’t like to acknowledge:
Last night’s event was only the 6th state dinner during the Obama’s time in the White House.
Ronald Reagan hosted 35 state dinners during his two terms.
The first President Bush held more than 20 state dinners in his one term in office.
The signature to the tweet – “-mo” indicates that Michelle herself sent the tweet and not a staffer.
First Lady Michelle Obama was confronted by a protester tonight at a private DNC fundraiser in Washington, D.C.
Ellen Sturtz, 56, a lesbian activist, interrupted her remarks to demand that President Obama sign an anti-discrimination executive order.
The First Lady apparently walked over to address Sturtz eye to eye, according to witnesses.
“One of the things that I don’t do well is this,” she said to applause from most of the guests, according to a White House transcript. “Do you understand?”
Sturtz was escorted out of the room. Sturtz said in an interview later she was stunned by Obama’s response.
“She came right down in my face,” Sturtz said. “I was taken aback.”
“I said I want your husband to sign the executive order,” Sturtz said. “Her husband could sign this order tonight and protect 22 percent of the work force in this country.”
I have to say – Sturtz was “taken aback” that the First Lady walked over to her eye to eye? So, Sturtz was hoping to have an anonymous, well-distanced protest?
The proposed executive order that prompted Sturtz’s outburst would prohibit federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. That would be a good thing. The First Lady, however, is not the person to protest.
I believe the President signing an executive order to outlaw LGBT discrimination in the workplace by federal contractors is a good thing. I do. But protesting the First Lady isn’t the place to get the message across.
