Madonna – SecretProjectRevolution

secretprojectrevolution is a 17-minute film directed by Madonna and Steven Klein. The film launches Art For Freedom, a global initiative to further freedom of expression, created by Madonna, curated by VICE, and distributed by BitTorrent.

Madonna stars as a revolutionary thrown in jail for… causing a commotion. “I keep telling everyone that I want to start a revolution but no one is taking me seriously. If I had black skin and an afro, would you take me seriously? If I was an Arab waving a hand grenade, would you take me seriously? Instead, I’m a woman. I’m a blonde. I have tits and ass and an insatiable desire to be noticed.”

Art For Freedom encourages the world to express their personal meaning of freedom and revolution in the form of video, music, poetry, and photography. Join the revolution by uploading original artwork to ArtForFreedom.com or tagging original posts #artforfreedom.

secretprojectrevolution, plus bonus content including VICE’s interview with Madonna (http://youtu.be/4U93frWrToI) and a handwritten message from Madonna and Steven Klein, is available to the public for free download exclusively at BitTorrent Bundle.

Madonna announces DVD release of MDNA World Tour with “Vogue” video clip

The DVD/Blu-Ray of Madonna’s MDNA World Tour is set for release September 10, 2013.

Madge released this clip of “Vogue” to whet folk’s appetites. I found it very watchable. Between the choreography and the production values (video, costumes, lights), the audience definitely got a show.

Still provocative, still interesting.

You can check out the DVD on Amazon.

Happy 55th Birthday, Madonna!

Over her three-decade-long career (first album released in 1983), Madonna has sold more than 300 million records worldwide, amassed a collection of No. 1 singles, and reinvented herself many times over.

Pretty hard to believe Madge is 55. Not only because she looks fantastic, but the original Material Girl shows no signs of slowing down. Her “MDNA” tour last year was the highest-grossing tour of 2012.

Madonna thanked her fans on her Instagram page with this statement:

“Thank u all for your #birthday love! Help me celebrate my birthday, by donating to Raising Malawi to support the work of one of my Heroes, Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Eric Borgstein: http://bit.ly/mbdayborg. Revolution of LOVE!”

What would a Madonna birthday be without celebrating some of her best music videos?

Happy birthday, Madge. You’re still fab. The world sits waiting to see what’s next.

Madonna’s first album debuted 30 years ago today

JoeMyGod notes that Madonna’s first album was released by Sire Records thirty years ago today. Rolling Stone noticed the release two months later:

Madonna, who crashed onto the dance charts last year with “Everybody,” has a voice that takes some getting used to. At first, it doesn’t sound like much at all. Then you notice its one distinguishing feature, a girlish hiccup that the singer uses over and over until it’s irritating as hell. Finally, you get hooked, and you start looking forward to that silly little catch in her voice. It helps that she writes good tunes — catchy and bare to the bone. It helps even more that her album is pristinely produced by Reggie Lucas. Electric keyboards have the clarity of finger chimes. The bass slaps the backbeat like shoes on pavement. Mind you, it’s simple stuff: “I’m burnin’ up/Burnin’ up for your love,” or “Holiday/Celebrate.” But it’s clever at times, too. “Physical Attraction” is practically a capsule history of high-school proms, with its sly references to the Association’s “Cherish” and Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical.” There are lots of blue-eyed soul belters with more generous voices and more intricate songs — Teena Marie comes quickly to mind. Still, without overstepping the modest ambitions of minimal funk, Madonna issues an irresistible invitation to the dance.

In the United States, the album was released on July 27, 1983. It entered the Billboard 200 albums chart at number 190, the week of September 3, 1983. The album had a slow and steady climb, and peaked at eight on the Billboard 200 on the week ending October 20, 1984, almost a year after its release.

The album has sold more than ten million copies worldwide.

The first single – “Everybody” – was released in advance of the album:

Madonna – “Secret Project” to be unveiled soon?

Madonna may be prepping to unveil a new song that has been referred to as “Secret Project” within her camp of compadres. The project is rumored to be a civil rights song and video addressing women’s empowerment.

The debut could come this weekend at the Sound of Change Live concert, a global charity event for female empowerment broadcast globally from London, England.

From the Examiner:

Madonna shot the video for her secret project last December and recorded a new song that deals with feminist power earlier this year. The name of the song was tentatively titled “Back of the Bus,” but that could change in the final version. It is said to be one of the most powerful ballads Madonna has haver come up with. It compares the struggle women face around the world with the Civil Rights Movement that started in the 1950s.

Madonna has always been an outspoken advocate for women’s rights as well as gay rights. In the 1980s, when gay men were dropping like flies because of AIDS, Madonna preached tolerance through her albums, videos, and concert performances. She risked her career by defending the gay community, but gave them a much needed voice at a time when even our own president, Ronald Reagan, was homophobic.

Madonna has a special place in her heart for empowering young women. In 1989, she released the song “Express Yourself,” which became an anthem for women’s rights.

The four hour concert, which begins at 1:00 p.m. EDT, will include inspirational and provocative films and stories highlighting women’s issues around the world.

Madonna presents Anderson Cooper with the GLAAD Vito Russo Award

Madonna, dressed in a Boy Scouts uniform, presented Anderson Cooper with the Vito Russo Award at the GLAAD Awards last night. Above is her entire 12 minute introduction speech.

The Vito Russo Award is presented to an openly LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality.

From Anderson’s acceptance speech:

As a gay person, it’s important for me to remember that all of us come from a community whose stories have for too long been forgotten and ignored, a community whose lives have for too long been ridiculed or misrepresented, a community that in spite of all that has found ways to love and to laugh and to care about one another, a community that has found ways to stand tall and stand up and make ourselves visible.

I know that I’m only able to be on this stage because of generations of gay people who have come before and some of their names are known, but so many have lived and died in silence… There lives never even acknowledged, their love hidden in the shadows, hands furtively held in the dark…

I’ve had many blessings in my life and being gay is certainly one of the greatest blessings. It has allowed me to love and be loved; it has allowed me to open my head and open my heart in ways that I never could have predicted. The ability to love one another, The ability to love another person is one of God’s greatest gifts and I thank God every day for enabling me to give and share love with people in my life, with my family, my friends, and my partner Benjamin.

Boy Culture’s Matthew Rettenmund shot video of Anderson Cooper accepting the award.

Lady Gaga’s “Little Monsters” – Madonna is a “major reason” for AIDS

Well, how hideous is this?

Lady Gaga’s fans feel that Madonna should NOT be presenting Anderson Cooper with his GLAAD Vito Russo Award. So much so that they have sent letters and started petitions saying Madonna is, in part, responsible for the AIDS epidemic.

Dear GLAAD:

It has come to the attention to Little Monsters everywhere that you are letting Madonna give an award to Anderson Cooper. Not only is this an insult to a true gay rights activist like Lady Gaga, but it insults every gay man and woman on this planet.

Madonna is one of the major reasons for AIDS. Back in the 1980’s, she encouraged gay men to have unprotected sex. While she certainly didn’t start the disease, she and her lack of morals helped it spread.

Please rethink your choice of having Madonna as a presenter. If you don’t, we Little Monsters will strike back in a way you won’t like.

Sincerely,
Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters

This is seriously HIDEOUS behavior on the part of Gaga fans. I can’t imagine that Lady Gaga would support such outrageous statements.

Just ugly.  Madonna has been at the forefront of promoting safe sex for decades.

I’ll just stop, actually.  I won’t defend anything.  The facts are facts.  And Lady Gaga’s fans are a sorry lot to throw such crap out there thanks to their “competition” they have in their heads between the two superstars.

Sad.
