Las Vegas shooter interviewed by news during Bundy Ranch stand-off

Jerad and Amanda Miller (via Faceboo)

Saturday’s shooting near Nellis Air Force Base left two police officers and a civilian dead. The shooters have been identified as Jerad and Amanda Miller.

After shooting the two cops at a CiCi’s Pizza, the Miller’s covered the officers with a “Don’t Tread On Me” flag and a swastika.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Jerad posted this to his Facebook page in early May:

“There is no greater cause to die for than liberty. To die for that cause is easy, to live for it is another matter. I will willingly die for liberty.

“Death, in a sense is freedom from tyranny. Death, is the easy way out. Most notably is the “suicide by cop” routine.

“Yes, standing before despots is dangerous and most likely does not end well for you. I know this, my wife knows this. Soon they will come for us, because they don’t like what we think, and what we say. They don’t like the fact that we, simply will not submit to fascist rule.

“We don’t have much, but we are willing to sacrifice everything…….for you, for your freedoms. Even if you wouldn’t let us have ours. We know who we are and what we stand for, do you?”

Local reporter Jon Ralston came across the interview below done during the Bundy Ranch standoff in Nevada some weeks ago.

Las Vegas doubles down on the LGBT tourist

Itay Hod at The Daily Beast has a big feature today on the progress Las Vegas has made in attracting LGBT tourist dollars by bringing in entertainment and attractions that have slowly made Sin City the fourth most popular travel destination for the gays (behind New York City, Chicago and San Francisco) in the US.

In addition to world-class entertainers like Bette, Cher, Celine, Elton, Shania and now Olivia Newton-John and Britney, Las Vegas provides top-notch restaurants, shopping and nightlife that makes for a big draw for the LGBT traveler.

For example, Scott Martin, a gay tech exec from Spokane, plans to celebrate his 40th birthday in Vegas with 20 of his closest friends. On the agenda are concerts by Olivia Newton-John and Britney, plus pool parties and five-star dining. Martin says his group will probably spend over $20K in one weekend.

Even the Chippendales, known for their “Ultimate Girls Night Out!” slogan, are embracing their gay side. Buy a ticket to their show and you might be surprised to see more than a few gay men in the audience cheering and hollering. Back in the ’80s the Chippendales were known as much for their Velcro pants as for their refusal to let men attend their show. “It really revamped itself,” says Jaymes Vaughan, Chippendales’ first and only openly gay stripper. “Vegas is definitely gay, and it’s only getting gayer. I mean, have you seen the sign to the city? It reads, ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas.’ I think that pretty much sums it up.” Vaughan has yet to pull a gay man up to the stage for a private lap dance, but he knows it’s only a matter of time. “Gay money spends just like straight money.”

“I think it’s great isn’t it? It’s wonderful!!!” says Olivia Newton John. “Cities are opening up to the reality of it and they’re embracing the whole idea.” Newton-John estimates at least a third of her audience is made up of gay men who have followed her career ever since she donned that pink jacket in Grease. “People are coming to see me from all over the world. That’s love, and I’m grateful for that.”

Cher AND Cyndi Lauper in concert at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas

Cher performs her biggest hits at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on the Dressed To Kill Tour 2014
This is what a star looks like

Michael and I hit the MGM Grand Garden Arena Sunday night in Las Vegas with friends Chad, Christian, Greg and Ryan for the packed concert event that was Cher – WITH Cyndi Lauper as her opening act!

Fantastic show as both artists gave their audience exactly what we came for.  Cyndi and Cher both were in terrific voice.   And brought with them the rock personas we’ve all come to know 🙂

Near the end of her set, Cyndi launched into a powerful rendition of “At Last” that killed.  At one point, she made her way into the crowd to talk about her Broadway hit musical “Kinky Boots” and sang an acapella version of “Not My Father’s Son” from the show before singing a full concert version of “Sex Is In The Heel.”

Cher sang a terrific “duet” of “I Got You Babe” with her ex husband Sonny Bono via video clips; stopped the Arena cold with her “Walking In Memphis,” “Turn Back Time,” “Woman’s World” and “Believe;”  and closed the night flying over the audience with “I Hope You Find It.”  And yes, Miss Cher gave you “costumes” as only she does.

If the concert comes to your town, GO!  Tour dates here.

Tourism ad: What happens in Vegas…

Cute ad from Visit Las Vegas.

Some folks interpret this as guys on the down low.  I took it as “hey, why not?”  And it was subtle enough that it doesn’t hit you over the head.

I liked.

From the clip description:

Las Vegas means: no assumptions, no judgment, come as you are, be who you want and do what you like. When you visit Las Vegas, we encourage you to embrace who you are at your very core. A Las Vegas vacation will push your comfort zone and create unforgettable moments.

Michael Sam celebrates NFL draft in Las Vegas

St. Louis Ram Michael Sam, the first openly gay player drafted by the NFL, celebrated the occasion at TAO Nightclub in Las Vegas Saturday night.

Drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round, the defensive end from the University of Missouri was joined by boyfriend Vito Cammisano, who swam competitively for the school.

A group of ten, including his agent and friends were on hand as Sam was surprised by a presentation from the club and a shout out from DJ Vice. He spotted Richard Sherman of the NFL champion Seattle Seahawks at a neighboring table the two chatted for a few minutes.

Sam and Cammisano later headed to the DJ booth, where Vice stopped the music to introduce and congratulate the newly signed pro. The crowd cheered as they danced and waved when Vice asked “Do we have any Rams fans in the house?!” The couple returned to their table where they celebrated the historic day until 3 am.

Las Vegas headliner Matt Goss sings “Strong” on Fox & Friends

Las Vegas headliner Matt Goss releases his new CD "Life You Imagine"

Las Vegas headliner Matt Goss dropped by Fox & Friends to share “Strong” – a track from his new CD Life You Imagine.

Goss recently spoke to Advocate.com about the song:

“It’s interesting that the song has already been so many different things to different people,” Goss says of the tune.

“A friend of mine who was overweight and wanted to get fit told me she used it every day to encourage her when she exercised, and it was also just used on Good Morning America when they were covering the Boston Marathon.

“So for somebody who is coming out – which has many different levels to it and can obviously be a torment-filled moment – if that song can encourage people to be strong in that moment and have courage to believe in who they are, then I’m a lucky man.”

A strong LGBT ally, Goss isn’t shy about sharing his thoughts on opposition to marriage equality today:

“It’s absolutely wrong, and that’s why I support marriage equality,” says Goss.

“How can someone be a loving partner for 20 years and have no rights? Who decides that? There is no question that this is a human rights issue and all people deserve the right to be acknowledged.

“It always seems to come down to a bigger question of faith and religion for a lot of people, but that’s not the point. We don’t need to get into all of that. That’s something that is a personal matter. Because in regards to basic human rights, people should be given the same rights across the board – it’s not even a question. That’s just something that just has to be. “
