My Favorite Thing Today: “For The Record: Baz” In Las Vegas

Michael and I recently have fallen in love with this new show – For The Record: Baz – in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay.

Staged at the Light nightclub, the musical is an environmental musical mashup of songs and romances from Baz Luhrmann’s movies “Moulin Rouge,” “Gatsby” and “Romeo + Juliet.” The show is a co-production with Cirque du Soleil’s theatrical division and LA based company For The Record.

Brilliantly staged, cutting in and out of the three different storylines, the show flies by at breakneck speed. And a talented cast to die for.

It’s a sexy, sumptuous, edgy new vision for musical theatre. I loved it.

Sadly, I hear the show is closing at Mandalay Bay in search of a new home. Fingers are crossed the producers find a longterm home for this post-modern mashup spectacle.

So, go see the show this weekend before the curtain comes down – for now – on “For The Record: Baz.”

America’s Got Talent Winner Mat Franco Opens In Las Vegas

Season 9 champ of America’s Got Talent, magician Mat Franco, brought his winning charm and infectious smile to amaze the opening night audience of his new residency – Mat Franco – Magic Reinvented Nightly – at the newly restyled LINQ Theater at The Linq in Las Vegas last night.

With some self-depracating humor (sometimes you almost think a trick won’t work – almost) and a personality that’s always warm and grounded, Franco (the first and only magician to win AGT) makes “story-telling” his primary magical power.

Whether recounting how he began practicing magic tricks before the age of 10, or constructing his first magic shows with the aide of his grandmother, Franco draws you into his magic-making with enthusiastic tales of his childhood fascination with magic.

My personal favorite moment was his closing trick. I won’t reveal it other than to say it becomes the ultimate “storytelling” of the evening. So, ignore the call of the gambling tables at least until Franco pretty impressive closing bit of magic 🙂

The show, the showroom and the showman are just the right match of for the 27 year old’s breezy magic-making.

Franco has a leaning for making the evening interactive, so you’re on notice: the audience is very much a part of this production. Don’t be afraid to raise your hand and be a part of the evening.

Great, fun night. If you’re in Las Vegas, make sure you catch Mat’s show.

Franco’s a winner, and so is the show.

Las Vegas: Ross Mathews Will Host This Year’s “Black & White Party” By AFAN

TV personality Ross Mathews will bring his charisma and his own fashion-forward monochromatic look to Las Vegas when he hosts Aid for AIDS of Nevada’s (AFAN) 29th Annual Black & White Party on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 9 p.m. inside The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

The premier party of the year will showcase a pop up wedding chapel and fully ordained officiant to perform weddings and vow renewals for the first time in Black & White history.

Entertainers including The Perry Twins, Maren Wade, “Love is Love” by Legends in Concert, Pia Zadora, DJ Axis, Nick Ayler, The Sound Collage, Brandon Godfrey and Boiis will take the stage while steampunk-inspired decor from the International Special Events Society (ISES) transforms the venue.

Guests will sample bites from top restaurants including Culinary Dropout, Ferraro’s, FU, Pink Taco, 35 Steaks + Martinis, Hexx, Popcorn Girl, Jamba Juice, Brio and more. Back Bar USA will pour top shelf spirits from its portfolio of brands including Bacardi, Corona, Cavalli Vodka, Absolut and Jameson.

More than 40 raffle prizes will be up for grabs including packages from Aria, Life is Beautiful, Mandarin Oriental, Exotics Racing, Penn & Teller and The Cosmopolitan.

The $50 general admission ticket price also grants admission to the official after party at Piranha Nightclub and Temptation Sundays pool party at the Luxor the following day.

While the Black & White is an unforgettable festive atmosphere, AFAN Executive Director Antioco Carrillo wants guests to remember the evening still has a sobering purpose to fight HIV/AIDS and eradicate the stigma it carries in Southern Nevada.

“We want people to get dressed up, come let loose and have the time of their lives,” said Carrillo. “But at the same time, it’s important to remember the event is ultimately dedicated to raising funds for locals living with AIDS and sending a message of prevention.”

Tickets can be purchased at afanlv.org. $130 VIP tickets with early entry at 8 p.m. or VIP tables with four tickets for $600 are also available. Guests must be 21+ years old.

Spent last night at Share Nightclub attending the premiere party for Olivia Newton-John’s collaboration with her daughter Chloe Lattanzi and dance music producer Dave Aude, a re-imagining of Olivia’s hit song from XANADU “Magic.”

The new song is a dance track with new verses sung by Chloe and Olivia anchoring the famous chorus. And the video features iconic Las Vegas performers and tribute artists in a late night playground filmed at Vegas’ premier gay nightclub, Share Nightclub.

“Real Housewives” Parody Series Returns For Second Season: “The Hotwives of Las Vegas”

Hulu’s scripted parody series based on the “Real Houswives” franchises returns for a second season after the initial season’s “The Hotwives of Orlando.”

Season 2 follows Phe Phe Reed (Tymberlee Hill) as she makes the move from Florida to Las Vegas, and thus we will now have “The Hotwives of Las Vegas.” The series features satirized versions of popular “Housewives” prototypes.

Watch the preview at Hulu (it’s set at autoplay and I know you folks hate that) and look for the new season to begin August 18th.

Las Vegas: Olivia Newton-John Launches Pink and Blue for Two Wines

I had the pleasure (hello – wine involved, how could it not be pleasure?) to attend a media event this week where Las Vegas headliner and music icon Olivia Newton-John hosted the launch of Pink and Blue for Two wines, now being sold at the Flamingo Las Vegas’ Center Cut high-end steak house and at the hotel’s boutique store.

Everyone knows I’m a wine lover, and I have to say – I had the Chardonnay and it’s excellent.

With proceeds from sales going to support the PB42 campaign and the wellness programs at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Center in Australia, you might assume the wine (being a charity wine) is a “secondary” or “less than” wine from Meadowcraft Winery. But it’s very, very good.

There’s also a Merlot for red wine lovers. And ONJ picked them out herself.

Co-hosting the event was Emerson Newton-John, Olivia’s nephew, who founded Pink and Blue for Two. The charity campaign encourages men and women to take part in breast and prostate exams as a way to catch possible cancers early.

This guy turns 21 today in Las Vegas, as he attends Ditch Fridays at Palms Pool this afternoon.

His name is Jeff Seid, and he’s got over 950,000 followers on Instagram, where he’s know at “the InstaHunk.”

Question: “What’s the best thing about being an Instahunk on Instagram?”

Beginning with a performance from her concert residency at Caesars Colosseum in Las Vegas, a lonely Mariah briefly takes to internet dating until she realizes she’s not finding true love there.

Or does she?

 Catch the cameo by international super model Tyson Beckford who was headlining at the Rio Hotel & Casino with the Chippendales at the time the video was shot.

Las Vegas: Chippendales At Cowabunga Bay Water Park Official 2015 Opening

I’m still nursing my VERY painful tooth ache thing going on – not enough drugs in the world I’m guessing. More wine!

But hot hubby Michael is with The Chippendales at a public event taking place at Las Vegas’ Cowabunga Bay Water Park today.

Let me repeat that – the hunky men of Chippendales getting wet at a water park.
