Mariah Carey Takes Tyson Beckford’s Throne At Chippendales

One day after opening her concert residency in Las Vegas (Mariah Carey #1 To Infinity), Mariah Carey headed over to see longtime friend (and international super model) Tyson Beckford take the stage at a sold-out performance of Chippendales at the Rio Hotel and Casino.

Although Mariah shared on Instagram “I have no idea how I got here,” it’s clear pop music princess knew exactly how to find a throne. She joined Beckford onstage for his “Empire” number as the men of Chippendales danced around her and Tyson gave her a personal lap dance. I do believe there was a spanking involved somewhere.

Talking Bruce Jenner & Transgender Issues On Valley View Live

Chatted up Dao Vu of Valley View Live on KTNV here in Las Vegas this afternoon regarding the Bruce Jenner/Diane Sawyer interview Friday, transgender issues and understanding the “what, how and whys” of understanding transgender life.

Thanks to the KTNV folks for having me. Hope I made sense 🙂

New Music: Mariah Carey “Infinity”

Mariah Carey drops her new single, “Infinity,” in advance of her upcoming compilation, #1 to Infinity, release date May 18.

The new tune feels very much like a friendly throw-back to the 90s “oohs” and “aahs” with a little bit of sassy 70s Diana Ross.

The release of #1 to Infinity is timed in conjunction with her upcoming residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas – Mariah #1 To Infinity – beginning May 6th.

The album will feature Mariah’s best, including upbeat dance tracks (“Emotions,” “Fantasy”) to soaring ballads (“I’ll Be There,” “Hero”) and her unprecedented back-to-back Billboard’s Song of the Decade (“One Sweet Day,” “We Belong Together”).

Resources Available For Transgender People

In light of Bruce Jenner’s Friday night interview with Diane Sawyer sharing his story of being transgender, I thought it would be useful to share some resources both nationally and here in Las Vegas for folks who would like more information on on the topic of transgender.

Here in Las Vegas, look to The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada, or as everyone calls it – The Center.

Located at 401 S. Maryland Parkway (between Charleston & Fremont), The Center has resources for the entire LGBT community including specific support and social groups for transgender folks.

Identi-T* at The Center provides transgender and gender non-conforming individuals from the Southern Nevada a safe place to relate to their peers, seek guidance, exchange clothing and expand their social circles. Stop by or call 702-733-9800 for more information.

For a broader, more national resource, I’d head over to The National Center for Transgender Equality. There you can find all kinds of information: from schools and healthcare to immigration and identification, policies affecting trans people are advancing every day. Find the latest information about existing laws and policies, and how you can improve the laws and policies in your area.

Across the country, you can find the closest LGBT center to you by clicking here.

Artist Who Designed “Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas” Sign Dies At 91

Betty Willis, artist/designer of the world famous “Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas” neon sign has passed away at the age of 91.

The sign was first illuminated in 1959 and still remains one of the most famous landmarks ever in Las Vegas, as tourists and costumed buskers pose in front of the sign at all hours.

Remarkably, the sign’s design was never trademarked, as Willis and the company wanted it to belong to the masses, a decision that has led to widespread use on items ranging from key chains to coffee mugs to Christmas ornaments.

It’s not even the lone Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign anymore. There are two others: The sign on Las Vegas Boulevard north of the Stratosphere that reads “Welcome to Fabulous Downtown Las Vegas” and a third on Boulder Highway that marks the gateway from the Boulder Strip to Las Vegas. All have the same design, but the original is far and away the most famous.

Willis said her inspiration for the sign’s famed oblong design was from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. logo of the era. The starburst at the top was inspired by Disneyland, bringing to mind a happy destination. The seven silver dollars spelling out “welcome” were to remind of luck.

Supermodel & Actor Tyson Beckford Inks Deal To Host Chippendales In Las Vegas

Get ready Las Vegas for Tyson Beckford at Chippendales!

Supermodel Tyson Beckford announced on Wednesday that he’ll be joining the Chippendales at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas as their next celebrity guest host.

“I am really excited to join the Chippendales show in Las Vegas,” Beckford says of the upcoming party gig. “These guys provide a flirty and sexy yet playful experience for women, and being a part of that party each night just seems like fun.”

The 44-year-old superstar model has never been shy about showing some skin throughout his career – after all, it’s part of the job, don’t you know? For instance, check out his appearance on The Real where a faux-photo shoot led to him taking his clothes off 🙂

And with the recent surge in interest in male revues, Beckford has a starring role in the upcoming Chocolate City — which tells the age-old story of a college student who turns to stripping in order to pay the bills — out March 19.

Past celebrity guest hosts include Sharknado and Beverly Hills 90210 star Ian Ziering and Melissa & Joey star Joey Lawrence.

Living in Las Vegas, I’ve been to Chippendales many times. The men are hot, the audience (mostly women – but men are welcome) really makes the show because they just let it all go and have fun. Sometimes, the Chippendales’ reactions to the women getting freaky is the best part of the show.

Whenever Chippendales brings a new celeb, in it points up that the show is always changing – new music, new production numbers, new faces in the cast.

And the show isn’t your average “strip and tip” kind of deal. The Chipps have their own $10 million theater and lounge, and the show is a full-on show.

Beckford’s run with the Chipps begins April 30th and runs to May 24th. Click here for tickets and more info.

And let’s not forget “the most wanted men in Sin City” – the Chippendales:

Folks Think It’s Snowing In Las Vegas

Snow fall in Las Vegas – January 16, 2005

I’m seeing all kinds of reports here in Las Vegas that “it’s snowing! It’s snowing!”

Kids, what we’ve got going on here is barely even a flurry or two.

Back in January 2005, we got what some might call a “real” snowfall. (And of course, it was in the middle of landscaping our backyard. Check the pic above.)

And by the way – handsome hubby Michael officially does NOT like snow unless he’s skiing on it.

Michael only likes snow when he’s skiing it or looking at it from a ski lodge
