Mike Huckabee (Of Course) Gets Kim Davis Question At GOP Debate

In case you missed it, there was one question that touched on LGBT issues last night at the second GOP presidential debate.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee squared off against former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on the issue of rogue Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis and her refusal to follow the law and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

As part of his argument for “accommodations” for Kim Davis, Huckster pointed out that the Fort Hood shooter was allowed to grow a beard.

“We made accommodations to the Fort Hood shooter, to let him grow a beard. We made accommodations to the detainees at Gitmo. I’ve been to Gitmo and I’ve seen the accommodations that we made to the Muslim detainees who killed Americans. You’re telling me that you cannot make an accommodation for an elected Democrat county clerk from Rowan County, Kentucky? What else is it other than the criminalization of her faith and the exaltation of everyone else who might be a Fort Hood shooter or a detainee at Gitmo?”

So, he compares growing a beard – which has NO effect on anyone else’s life – with a county clerk who won’t allow two people who love each other to marry?

Jeb Bush Slaps Back At Donald Trump: “The Real Donald Trump”

Jeb Bush has finally had enough of being Donald Trump’s punching bag it seems.

Today, Bush’s campaign released a new ad using Trump’s own personal statements to illuminate his past support for abortion rights, raising taxes, single-payer health care, as well as Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

Up until now, Bush has refrained from taking on The Donald too forcefully, clearly with the thinking that Trump would ultimately flame out as the GOP frontrunner.

And yet, Trump continues to climb in polls. So Bush’s campaign is feeling the heat now.

Jeb Bush Digs Deeper: It’s The Asians That Are The ‘Anchor Baby’ Problem

At a press conference yesterday, Jeb Bush defended his use of the term “anchor babies” and made a point to speak in Spanish to show how “Latino” friendly he is.

Via CNN:

Bush, however, said he’s “immersed in the immigrant experience,” referring to his wife who’s from Mexico. He also speaks fluent Spanish and has lived in the Miami area for decades. “This is ludicrous for the Clinton campaign and others to suggest that somehow I’m using a derogatory term,” he said, adding, “Frankly it’s more related to Asian people coming into our country, having children, in that organized efforts, taking advantage of a noble concept.”

Well, I can see that makes things much more palatable. It’s the ASIANS and not the LATINOS who are the “anchor baby” problem?

Clearly, Jeb is now working to alienate the asian community, too.

Bush’s clumsy mention of his fluent Spanish inspired Trump to mock that skill by retweeting this message from a follower – “Jeb Bush is crazy, who cares that he speaks Mexican, this is America, English !!”

U.S. Army Chief Of Staff Corrects Jeb Bush: Your Brother Negotiated The Iraq Exit

U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond Odierno, the former highest-ranking officer in Iraq and one of the architects of the 2007 troop surge there, recently took time in a speech Wednesday to correct GOP hopeful Jeb Bush, who has “blamed” the current situation in the Middle East on President Obama due to the military drawdown in Irag in 2011.

“I remind everybody that us leaving at the end of 2011 was negotiated in 2008 by the Bush administration. That was always the plan, we had promised them that we would respect their sovereignty,” Odierno said during his final press conference at the Pentagon.

Here’s what Jeb Bush had to say this past Tuesday at the Reagan Library:

“So why was the success of the surge followed by a withdrawal from Iraq, leaving not even the residual force that commanders and the joint chiefs knew was necessary?” Bush asked. “And where was Secretary of State Clinton in all of this? Like the president himself, she had opposed the surge, then joined in claiming credit for its success, then stood by as that hard-won victory by American and allied forces was thrown away.”

While Bush may like to pivot from his brother’s record while in the White House, the withdrawal timetable was in fact set long before Obama took office. In November 2008, both the U.S. and Iraq agreed that “All the United States Forces shall withdraw from all Iraqi territory no later than December 31, 2011.”

2016 – Polls, polls, and more polls

Two new NBC/Marist polls show Donald Trump continues to sit dominate the current GOP nominating process for 2016 presidential nominee.

In New Hampshire, Trump beats second placer Jeb Bush by 7 points.

Donald Trump – 21%
Jeb Bush – 14%
Scott Walker – 12%
John Kasich – 7%
Chris Christie – 6%
Ben Carson – 6%
Marco Rubio – 5%
Ted Cruz – 5%

Recently announced Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker leads in Iowa, but with Trump only 2 points behind him.

Scott Walker – 19%
Donald Trump – 17%
Jeb Bush – 12%
Ben Carson – 8%
Mike Huckabee – 7%
Rand Paul – 5%

Additionally, a new CNN/ORC poll shows 52% of Republicans want Donald Trump to stay in the race for the GOP nomination. Thirty-three percent want Trump to drop out, and 15% would like to see him make an independent run for president in 2016.

Over on the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton continues strong leads in both states, although Sen. Bernie Sanders has gained some ground in New Hampshire.

In Iowa, Hillary holds strong with a 29 point lead over Sanders.

Hillary Clinton – 55%
Bernie Sanders – 26%
Martin O’Malley – 4%
Jim Webb – 2%

In New Hampshire, Sanders fares better (Sanders currently serves as U.S. senator from neighboring Vermont) but Hillary stays in the lead.

Martin O’Malley – 5%
Lincoln Chaffee – 2%

Donald Trump Threatens Third Party Presidential Run

In an interview with The Hill, Donald Trump made clear he would seriously consider a third party run at the presidency should he not secure the GOP nomination.

“The RNC has not been supportive. They were always supportive when I was a contributor. I was their fair-haired boy,” the business mogul told The Hill in a 40-minute interview from his Manhattan office at Trump Tower on Wednesday. “The RNC has been, I think, very foolish.”

Pressed on whether he would run as a third-party candidate if he fails to clinch the GOP nomination, Trump said that “so many people want me to, if I don’t win.”
“I’ll have to see how I’m being treated by the Republicans,” Trump said. “Absolutely, if they’re not fair, that would be a factor.”

Recent polls involving Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush and Trump indicate Hillary winning with 46%, Bush 30% and Trump 20%.

Jeb Bush Shows His Kool Factor

Well, this certainly will sway my vote for Jeb Bush. Note how edgy and cool he is as he pulls the sweatshirt over his head instead of merely unzipping it like a dull, boring person.

This will definitely appeal to young millennials. Jeb clearly has the swagger and kool factor to be my president.

Now, if only there were a tank nearby that he could get in and drive…

Jeb Bush Supports Workplace Protections For LGBTs On A State-By-State Basis

At a campaign event in San Francisco, GOP presidential hopeful Jeb Bush said he supported workplace protections for LGBT folks, but only on a state-by-state level.

“I don’t think you should be discriminated [against] because of your sexual orientation. Period. Over and out,” he told the worker. “I think this should be done state-by-state. I totally agree with that.”

Moving on to the topic of same-sex marriage, Bush tried to walk a fine line between appeasing conservatives who support “religious freedom” laws that would allow business to refuse to serve LGBT customers by citing their religious beliefs and opponents who see it as legalized discrimination. Bush has previously said that following the Supreme Court’s ruling in June that legalized same-sex marriage in the United States, the matter is settled and Republicans should move on from the issue.

Bush thinks the nation should find a way to “balance the rights of those seeking to marry and the religious beliefs of those who oppose those unions,” according to a Time magazine report on the campaign event.

But the candidate also gave himself some wiggle room when discussing the proposed laws. Using the example of a florist asked to provide flowers for a same-sex wedding, clearly expressed his opinion that they should not be used to blatantly discriminate, saying “You should be obligated to sell them flowers. Doing otherwise would be discriminatory.”

Later, Bush pulled back a bit on that statement saying that a florist shouldn’t have to “participate” in a same-sex wedding if they didn’t want to. He didn’t clarify what he considered “participating.”

Jeb Bush Should Ask His Brother About Working “Longer Hours”

Recently, GOP presidential hopeful Jeb Bush suggested the country could improve economically if Americans would work longer hours.

An ironic statement considering his brother took more vacation days than any other president in recent history.

As a matter of fact, it looks like Republicans like their vacay days a lot more than Democrats.

Jeb Bush Says Americans Should Work Longer Hours – Hillary Clinton Thinks Americans Already Work Hard

Hillary Clinton tweeted this out in response to GOP presidential nominee Jeb Bush, who suggested that his plan to improve the economy included having working middle-class Americans work longer hours.

In an interview with the New Hampshire newspaper The Union Leader, Bush said, “My aspiration for the country and I believe we can achieve it, is 4 percent growth as far as the eye can see. Which means we have to be a lot more productive, workforce participation has to rise from its all-time modern lows. It means that people need to work longer hours.”

Hillary thinks Americans are already hard working.

If you look at the graph above, worker productivity has been on a steady climb for decades. It’s stagnation in the wages earned that’s affecting the economy.

Folks are working and producing just fine. It’s businesses making money and not passing on even a small portion of the rising profits to the average worker that’s the problem.

As the saying goes, “A rising tide should lift all boats.”
