New CNN/ORC Poll Shows Both Democratic Candidates Beat Donald Trump

New polling from CNN/ORC shows both Democratic candidates for president, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton & Sen. Bernie Sanders, would beat current Republican front-runner Donald Trump.

From CNN:

In the scenario that appears most likely to emerge from the primary contests, Clinton tops Trump 52% to 44% among registered voters. That result has tilted in Clinton’s favor since the last CNN/ORC Poll on the match-up in January.

But when the former secretary of state faces off with either of the other two top Republicans, things are much tighter and roughly the same as they were in January. Clinton trails against Rubio, with 50% choosing the Florida senator compared to 47% for Clinton, identical to the results in January. Against Cruz, Clinton holds 48% to his 49%, a slight tightening from a 3-point race in January to a 1-point match-up now.

Sanders — who enjoys the most positive favorable rating of any presidential candidate in the field, according to the poll — tops all three Republicans by wide margins: 57% to 40% against Cruz, 55% to 43% against Trump, and 53% to 45% against Rubio. Sanders fares better than Clinton in each match-up among men, younger voters and independents.

Hillary Clinton Wins South Carolina Democratic Primary

Immediately after polls closed in South Carolina, NBC projected former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will win the South Carolina Democratic Primary.

The final tally was a crushing win with Clinton getting 73% of the vote to Sanders’ 26%.

This brings Hillary’s total to winning three of the first four Democratic contests.

She currently leads in 10 of the 11 states holding contests on the upcoming Super Tuesday.

Hillary gave a great victory speech, especially these lines:

That Time When Hillary Clinton Stopped The Democratic Convention To Nominate Barack Obama As Dem Nominee

At the 2008 National Democratic Convention, then Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York called for a stop in the roll call of states, asking that in the spirit of party unity the convention move directly to electing her former opponent Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee.

Classy move.

I hope to see similar class at this year’s convention.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid Endorses Hillary Clinton For President

Nevada Sen. Harry Reid announced today that he is endorsing Hillary Clinton for president.

The Nevada Democrat issued a plea for his party to consolidate behind Clinton, who has struggled to fend off an insurgent campaign from Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont.

“I think the middle class would be better served by Hillary,” Reid said.

“I think that my work with her over the years has been something that I have looked upon with awe. She was the first lady. She started the trend toward looking to do something about health care. She understood the issue well, she was the front on the health care during that administration,” he said.

Reid added, “I also think she’s the woman to be the first president of the United states that’s a female.”

Many see this as a sign that Democratic leaders are eager to put the party’s contentious primary fight behind them.

As the Senate Minority Leader, Reid is the highest ranking Democrat in the U.S. Senate.

Democratic Candidates On CNN Townhall Tonight

CNN hosts a townhall discussion with both Democratic presidential nominees, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton & Sen. Bernie Sanders, tonight at 8pmET/5pmPT.

Personally, I like the townhall format more than a debate scenario. Less attacking each other and the questions come from the voters, which I find more interesting.

Early on some folks called for more debates than the original six announced. I wasn’t crazy about that idea as I think you get in six debates about all the interchange between candidates you need.  Of course, three more debates were eventually added to the schedule.

But in a townhall setting, real every day Americans get to directly ask the candidates what they care about.

Congressman James Clyburn Endoreses Hillary Clinton For President

South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn, the highest ranking African-American in Congress, makes news today with his endorsement of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

From NBC News:

Clyburn, one of the state’s most influential Democratic lawmakers, has traditionally remained neutral ahead of the South Carolina Democratic primary. But he announced at a news conference he has “decided to terminate my neutrality and get engaged.”

“My heart had always been with Hillary Clinton, but my head had me in a neutral corner,” Clyburn said.

The endorsement could prove influential ahead of the Palmetto State’s Democratic primary on Feb. 27, where Clinton already holds a 28-point lead, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll. The former secretary of state is doing especially well among African-American voters in the state.

Clyburn said Clinton is “far and away the best choice” to fight for criminal justice reform and protect voting rights.

“I believe that the future of the Democratic party and United States of America will be best served with the experience and knowhow of Hillary Clinton as 45th president,” he said.
