Get ready, small-town America – the queens are coming! HBO Network has announced a new unscripted TV series titled We’re Here starring RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara, and Shangela. Over six episodes, the trio of RPDR royalty will travel to small towns across the country with the goal of “empowering local communities with the magic of drag.” Each installment of the series will feature a different town where locals will be recruited to participate in a one-night-only drag show. The three queens will work to inspire their ‘drag daughters’ to step out of their comfort zone. We’re getting a Queer Eye / To Wong Foo vibe here… Creator and executive producer Johnnie Ingram says, “We’re bringing the art of drag into small-town America in an effort to make connections in unexpected places.” “Drag is about confidence and self-expression,” says Nina Rosenstein, EVP, HBO programming in a statement. “We are so thrilled to showcase the transformative power of the art form with our audience.” All three queens will contribute as consulting producers on the series with Ingram and co-creator/executive producer Stephen Warren. The divas shared the news with similar messaging on their Instagrams:

Funny: “HBO Should Show More Dongs”

Have you ever noticed the amount of female nudity on HBO? Why not some “full frontal” from the male characters?

A few years ago, the ladies of College Humor called out HBO demanding equal time for their viewing pleasure asking for more ‘Full Monty’ from men on the premium channel.

Even today, they have a point, don’t they?

“We’re not saying ‘no more boobs,” say the girls. “We just think you should show dong.”

“I want a little ‘Dude Tube’ on my ‘Boob Tube,'” says another.

They even point out the easy opportunities the channel blew. “You had a show called Hung about a guy with a big d*ck – and we never got to see it??”

“Game of Thrones? We were promised a ‘storm of swords.'”

The ladies even have suggestions – like two guys showing naked peen comparing sizes.

“Ooh, and it’s a tie, so then they have to wrestle naked and there’s some cross-dong action.”

I think these ladies have a point here. And to be fair, they come with a compromise: “For every minute we have to sit through this dumb double standard, you owe us an inch of Grade A man meat.”

Nothing’s really changed has it?

It’s time to level the playing field, HBO. What do you say?

HBO: Carrie Fisher & Debbie Reynolds Documentary Bright Lights To Debut January 7

Do not miss critically acclaimed documentary, Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, set to debut on HBO January 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Via press release:

In light of the recent and unexpected deaths of both Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, the documentary BRIGHT LIGHTS: STARRING CARRIE FISHER AND DEBBIE REYNOLDS will debut SATURDAY, JAN. 7 at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT), exclusively on HBO.

The story of a family’s complicated love, this documentary is an intimate portrait of Hollywood royalty in all its eccentricity. Carrie Fisher and her mother, Debbie Reynolds, live in the same Beverly Hills compound. The 83-year-old grand dame still has a Las Vegas act, but performing is taking its toll. Carrie’s response is both hilarious and heart-rending. Featuring vintage family films that bring iconic old-world Hollywood to life, as well as extensive vérité footage, the film is directed by Alexis Bloom and Fisher Stevens.

The documentary was well received at several high-end film festivals including the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, the Telluride Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.

Plus, as previously mention here on The Randy Report, HBO will offer an encore presentation of Carrie Fisher’s brilliant 2010 one-woman show, WISHFUL DRINKING, this Sunday at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on HBO.

Fisher’s autobiographical stage performance gets a feature-length adaptation including interviews with friends and family plus archival footage. If you haven’t seen it – hell, even if you have – make sure you tune i.

HBO Documentary NOTHING LEFT UNSAID

I will be watching this. Not for the tabloid, “watching the wealthy” aspect but for the introspective look into what the lives of those we “think” have everything might really be like.

From HBO:

Born into one of the wealthiest and best-known families in American history, Gloria Vanderbilt has lived in the public eye for more than 90 years, unapologetically pursuing love, family and career, while experiencing extreme tragedy and tremendous success side by side. Directed by Liz Garbus, the poignant and revealing feature-length documentary Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt & Anderson Cooper features a series of candid conversations as Vanderbilt and her youngest son, Anderson Cooper, look back at her remarkable life.

Intertwining archival footage and previously unseen home videos spanning eight decades with present-day scenes, the film paints an intimate portrait of one of America’s most fascinating families. Cooper and Vanderbilt tell the story of their past and present, losses and loves, and show how, in life, patterns repeat themselves in the most unexpected ways.

Drawing on Gloria Vanderbilt’s private archive of letters, home movies, photos and artwork created by her over the years, as well as vintage news footage and newspaper clippings, Nothing Left Unsaid is a journey through a life like no other. Son Anderson Cooper explains, “She’s got this public face, but the reality of her life is so different.”

Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt and Anderson Cooper premieres Saturday, April 9, only on HBO.

Trailer: “Sesame Street” On HBO

Sesame Street comes to HBO this January

I was watching HBO this weekend and saw this trailer for Sesame Street, and completely forgot that HBO had stepped in to partner with the legendary children’s show.

From what I understand, Sesame Workshop has a five year deal with HBO which will help the Street produce twice as much content each year and at the same time allow HBO to widen it’s children’s programming.

The show will still appear on PBS free of charge, with the new shows available after a nine month delay.

Apparently, in the past, PBS’ funding only provided for about 10% of the show’s budget. The rest was made up via DVD sales and other merchandising. But with the advent of streaming and online video, some of that funding has begun to dry up.

This 46th season of the show will welcome, as always, big stars. Look for folks like Jon Hamm, Tina Fey, Pharrell, Gwen Stefani and more.

Sesame Street comes to HBO January 16.

Lisa Kudrow Says THE COMEBACK Will Have 3rd Season

Lisa Kudrow recently told BlackBook that she and co-creator Michael Patrick King have the go ahead from HBO for a third season of the BRILLIANT series The Comeback!

“We’re talking about what comes next, but we’re not in a rush. At first I didn’t talk to Michael about it, out of panic, but we were done in December and I thought, oh god that means we have to start up again next month. I don’t know if I can, it’s too soon, I’m too tired.

“And then we talked about it, and said we don’t have to, we can wait a year and a half. Then HBO said, yeah, whenever, whenever you have it, let us know. It’s wonderful.”

Yes, please.

Regular readers know I’m a HUGE fan of the show. Lisa Kudrow shows more complexity and depth playing a shallow sitcom actress than imaginable. The final episode of season 2 was perfection.

If you haven’t watched yet, it’s required watching.  Check out Season One here and Season Two here.
