Buzzfeed Cancels Million Dollar Donald Trump Ad Deal

Buzzfeed’s CEO Jonah Peretti cancelled an ad deal with the Republican National Committee worth $1.3 million to run Donald Trump campaign ads on it’s websites.

“Earlier today, BuzzFeed informed the RNC that we would not accept Trump for President ads and that we would be terminating our agreement with them,” Peretti said. “The Trump campaign is directly opposed to the freedoms of our employees in the United States and around the world and in some cases, such as his proposed ban on international travel for Muslims, would make it impossible for our employees to do their jobs.”

You can read the email from Peretti to his employees in it’s entirety below.

Hello BuzzFeeders,

I wanted to share with you a business decision we have made regarding the Trump for President campaign and why we made it.

In April, the Republican National Committee signed an agreement with BuzzFeed to spend a significant amount on political advertisements slated to run during the Fall election cycle. As you know, we accept advertisements from both republican and democratic candidates and we were pleased to accept this advertising order from the RNC.

Since signing this advertising deal, Donald Trump, as you know, has become the presumptive nominee of his party. The tone and substance of his campaign are unique in the history of modern US politics. Trump advocates banning Muslims from traveling to the United States, he’s threatened to limit the free press, and made offensive statements toward women, immigrants, descendants of immigrants, and foreign nationals.

Earlier today Buzzfeed informed the RNC that we would not accept Trump for President ads and that we would be terminating our agreement with them. The Trump campaign is directly opposed to the freedoms of our employees in the United States and around the world and in some cases, such as his proposed ban on international travel for Muslims, would make it impossible for our employees to do their jobs.

We don’t need to and do not expect to agree with the positions or values of all our advertisers. And as you know, there is a wall between our business and editorial operations. This decision to cancel this ad buy will have no influence on our continuing coverage of the campaign.

We certainly don’t like to turn away revenue that funds all the important work we do across the company. However, in some cases we must make business exceptions: we don’t run cigarette ads because they are hazardous to our health, and we won’t accept Trump ads for the exact same reason.

Thanks,

Jonah

New Ad Features Republicans Denouncing Donald Trump’s Racist “Mexican Judge” Comments

This new ad from Hillary Clinton is a collection of responses by Republican politicians and pundits regarding GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s assertion that the judge presiding over his Trump University lawsuit can’t be fair because “he’s Mexican.”

(p.s. the judge was born in Indiana…)

CNN’s Jake Tapper Asks Donald Trump 23 Times If Attack On Trump University Judge Was “Racist”

You gotta give it to CNN’s Jake Tapper.

He asks Donald Trump about his recent public attacks on the judge presiding over his Trump University lawsuit. Trump has accused the judge of having a conflict of interest because The Donald plans to build a wall between Mexico and the U.S. According to Trump, the judge is biased because he’s “Mexican.”

Note: the judge was born in Indiana.

Twenty-three times Tapper tries to get an answer as to why the judge can’t be impartial. Twenty-three times the Trumpster deflects.

Check Tapper’s face in the image above from the interview. Tells the tale.

In related news, on CBS’s Face the Nation today, Trump said it “would be possible, absolutely” that  a Muslim judge would be too biased against him to preside over a lawsuit over him due to his insistence that Muslims be banned from the U.S.

Donald Trump Refers To His “African-American” At Campaign Rally

In an effort to underscore the “diversity” of his supporters at a campaign rally Friday, Donald Trump pointed to a man in the audience, saying, “Look at my African-American over here! Look at him! You know what I’m talking about!”

Twitter was not slow to respond:

New Poll Shows Hillary Clinton In Double-Digit Lead Over Donald Trump

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton with a 12 point lead over Republican Donald Trump.

Among likely voters, 46% said they supported Clinton, while 35% said they supported Trump according to the survey of 1,421 people conducted between May 30 and June 3.

Last month, the same poll indicated Trump had briefly tied the former Secretary of State in support among likely U.S. voters.

Liberal Redneck: “The Truth About Trump”

Comedian Trae Crowder is back as the “Liberal Redneck.”

And while the jokes are still funny, Crowder has a bit more sober message along the way about the dangers of underestimating the Trumpster.

“I’m starting to worry about how quickly people on the left are to dismiss him and his legion of misspelled sign toting fans. Look, y’all, I’ve been confused by it too, Because for literally my whole life, this dude has been the Quentin Tarantino of being a rich douche. He has truly revolutionized the form.”

Hillary Clinton’s Full Foreign Policy Speech Regarding Donald Trump’s “Dangerously Incoherent” Views

Hillary Clinton delivered what may be one of the best speeches of her political career today taking on the differences between her foreign policy views versus Donald Trump’s.

I think it’s really a must-watch. The specifics, the tone, the modulation, the slight smile every now and then, a bit of humor. Very accomplished.

I urge you to stop and watch. This is presidential stuff.

Even as Hillary mentioned Trump’s penchant for “composing nasty tweets” – he did. While the Trumpster was concerned about how she “looks,” he forgot to check his spelling.

Mark Cuban: I’m A Lot Richer Than Donald Trump

Mark Cuban

Via Buzzfeed:

Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban on Wednesday questioned whether Donald Trump is actually a billionaire, saying Trump’s lack of transparency with his finances makes his net worth difficult to determine.

“I know what I’m good at, and I know what I’m not good at. I’m not so sure Donald knows what he’s not good at,” Cuban said on 77 WABC’s Bernie and Sid.

Cuban said Trump was good at putting his name on big buildings and licensing his name on hotels, but it isn’t clear how much money that has made him. “He’s good at that. Whether or not that’s made him a billionaire, I don’t know,” Cuban said. “He’s not transparent enough for us to actually know.”

Cuban said he went over Trump’s FEC filings and saw Trump was “horrible” at many aspects of business.

“I think he’s good at real estate; I do give him a lot of credit there. I think he’s good at branding real estate,” he said. “I don’t think he’s very good at brands for non–real estate products. And, to me, it’s more a reflection of desperation.

“So when you’re putting your name on steaks, and you’re putting your name on water, you’re putting your name on playing cards, you’re putting your name on all this nonsense, right? You’re not gonna make big bucks, no matter what. It’s not like Trump Steaks were gonna make him $100 million. It’s not like it was gonna make him $5 million.”

Later in the interview, Cuban said he has more money than Trump.

“It’s not even close, I do,” Cuban said. “Before all the Trumpians jump on me on who has more money, the reason I know is when you file your federal election campaign reports, you have to list all your cash and liquid securities and bonds. You have to list them one by one. So we know without any question that as of May 27, Donald doesn’t have more than $165 million in cash and securities and bonds.

“And trust me, I’ve got a lot of more than that in cash, securities, and bonds,” he continued. “And so you know, I’m willing to bet dimes against dollars that that’s pretty much what he’s got.”
