Kellyanne Conway U-Turns – Again – On Trump Taxes

After months of promising on the campaign trail to release his tax returns once an IRS audit is complete, Donald Trump’s White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told George Stephanopoulos, on ABC’s This Week, that Trump will not be releasing his tax returns.

Hold on, now, because you might get whiplash: Conway tweeted this morning that the White House is back to their original position, promising to release the tax returns after the “audit.”

Imagine the discussions taking place behind closed doors.

There are currently over 260K signatures on a White House petition calling for the release of Trump’s tax returns.

White House Advisor: President Trump Is “Not Going To Release His Tax Returns”

Although Donald Trump promised repeatedly throughout the presidential campaign that he would release his tax returns once an audit by the IRS was completed, today White House counselor Kellyanne Conway announced that the new president is “not going to release his tax returns.

During an appearance on ABC’s This Week, host George Stephanopoulos brought up the White House petition posted on Friday demanding Trump’s tax returns be released.

Conway responded thusly:

“The White House response is that he’s not going to release his tax returns. We litigated this all through the election. People didn’t care, they voted for him.”

There are currently over 200,000 signatures on the White House petition.

Trump has recently brushed aside the issue of his tax returns saying that people “don’t care” about his tax returns.

It would appear more than 200,000 Americans do.

You have to imagine that whatever is in those tax returns must be extremely damning to justify a u-turn on releasing the info in those returns.

White House Spokesman Addressed Inauguration Crowd Size Because Trump Was “Enraged”

According to a contact of mine,  a high level producer at CNN, President Donald J. Trump directed White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer to address inauguration crowd sizes in the briefing room yesterday because he grew enraged by picture comparisons to former President Obama’s crowds.

Despite facts and images showing otherwise, Spicer FALSELY claimed that President Trump had the “largest audience to witness an inauguration, period.”

Why is the new President so obsessed with crowd sizes?

Obama ’09: 1.1 million

Trump Inauguration Draws Smaller TV Ratings Than Obama

 Will Variety will be the next “target” of a Trump tweet?

The venerable tome of all things entertainment shared the Nielsen ratings for the Trumpster’s inauguration, and although White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters yesterday it was the “most watched” of any inaugural event, it turns out that’s just not true.

It seems The Donald drew a respectable 30.6 million viewers when you add up the numbers for the 12 networks that broadcast the event.

In 2009, President Obama had 37.7 million watch his swearing in to the office of president.

The highest rated inauguration, back when there were only three networks to choose anything from, was Ronald Reagan’s in 1981.

The top 5 inaugurations, according to Nielsen:

1. Ronald Reagan (1981) 41.8 million

2. Barack Obama (2009) 37.7 million

3. Jimmy Carter (1977) 34.1 million

4. Richard Nixon (1973) 33 million

5. Donald Trump (2017) 30.6 million

Mind you, I really don’t care much. But since Trump obsesses about “his numbers” so much, watch for the media to report on it.

White House Spokesman Attacks Press Over “False Reporting” Inauguration Numbers

White House press secretary Sean Spicer attacked the White House press corps today for distorting attendance statistics at Trump’s inauguration.

“Some members of the media were engaged in deliberately false reporting.”

“This was the largest audience ever to witness an inauguration, period. Both in person and around the globe.”

This is pretty unprecedented. And also, a lie.

We have aerial photos from 11:45AM at Trump’s inauguration and from the same time in 2009 at Obama’s inauguration. The pics of the crowd at Trump’s inauguration showed lots of open space on the National Mall when compared side-by-side with pics of Obama’s 2009 inauguration.

The fact that this is what Trump is focusing on during his first full day as president is amazing.

Earlier today, Trump traveled to meet with members of the CIA in an attempt to clear the air from his attacks on the country’s intelligence agencies these past few weeks.

After a brief comment on that subject, saying the media made up a false war between the intelligence community and Trump (ummm, we have all the tweets where he attacked the intel community), Trump went on a rant about his attendance numbers there at the CIA while standing in front of a memorial for fallen intel agents.

Trump Shuts Down Interior Department Twitter After Unflattering Tweets

The Washington Post reporting that the Interior Department was told to shut down official Twitter accounts after a Park Service employee retweeted unflattering pics of the light crowds at Trump’s inaugural.

The first noted the new president’s relatively small inaugural crowd compared to the number of people former president Barack Obama drew to the National Mall when he was sworn into office in 2009. The second tweet noted several omissions of policy areas on the new White House website. A Park Service employee retweeted both missives on Friday.

“All bureaus and the department have been directed by incoming administration to shut down Twitter platforms immediately until further notice,” said an email circulated to Park Service employees Friday afternoon. The email, obtained by The Post, described the stand-down as an “urgent directive” and said social media managers must shut down the accounts “until further directed.”

Trump’s Approval Rating Hits New Lows Just Before Taking Oath Of Office

Some people, not me, are saying he’s not getting great numbers since the election.

And this is a FOX NEWS poll, just saying…

Just over a third of Americans approve of President-elect Donald Trump, according to a new poll released hours before his inauguration.

The survey from Fox News showed that 37 percent of Americans approve of Trump ahead of his inauguration, while 54 percent do not.

Measuring the country’s mood just before Inauguration Day, 60 percent of Americans said “it’s everyone for themselves,” and 34 percent said “we’re all in this together.”

The poll comes at the tail end of a flurry of surveys that show Trump as having a historically low approval rating for a president-elect.

According to an ABC/Washington Post poll released earlier this week, 40 percent of Americans approved of Trump. In 2009, 80 percent of Americans approved of then-President-elect Barack Obama.

Trump Inaugural Drew Roughly Half The Crowd Obama Did In 2009

A tale of two inaugurations.

Via Vox:

President Donald Trump boasted his inauguration would have an “unbelievable, perhaps record-setting turnout.”

But aerial shots of the National Mall from President Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration and today show that isn’t likely.

Federal and local agencies have estimated that anywhere from 700,000 to 900,000 people will be in Washington, DC, today for Trump’s inauguration. That’s roughly half the number of people who attended Obama’s inauguration in 2009.

It’s also less than the turnout for Obama’s 2013 inauguration, which drew 1 million people.
