The L.A. kids…

Cooper (L) and Dylan (R)

Bruno the wonder dog and brood make their occasional appearances here on The Randy Report.

But, I’m lucky that for years, when I travel to Los Angeles, I have my “other” kids to have around me.  My bff (and Out Music Award winner) Matt Zarley’s dogs Dylan and Cooper always keep me company when I’m working from the guest room at Casa Zarley.

I’ve known Dylan since he was just a puppy in the early 2000s; and Cooper for 6-7 years.

I used to joke with Matt that Dylan was my doggie boyfriend because Dylan always went wherever I did in the house. He’s a special guy.

Casey the schnauzer passes out when reunited with owner

For two years, Casey the schnauzer missed her owner who was living and working in Slovenia.

When the family came back to Pennsylvania for a wedding, Casey could’t stop squealing.

Until, that is, she passed out from the excitement.

Don’t worry – Casey was checked out by the vet and all is well.

The video has over 19 million views in four days.

Viral photo: Dog stands watch over his injured companion

Michael Mason, of Georgia, was leaving church when he saw a dog standing on the side of the road.

As he looked closer, he realized the dog seemed to be standing guard over his injured companion. Mason quickly snapped a picture and shared it with a friend asking for help. He posted it online and it took off.

“The look on his face. ‘Can someone help me?’ He was watching over him like a guard dog,” Mason said.

After “The Walking Dead” actress Kylie Szymanski posted it on her Facebook fan page, the picture soon went viral.

“I never thought it would happen to me (going viral). I wasn’t thinking about it. I was thinking about the dog,” Mason said.

The handsome-faced Herman is at Fulton County Animal Services and he needs a new home.

Sadly, a vet was not able to save Herman’s companion.

Disabled dachsund “Anderson Pooper” races to cheers

Anderson Pooper is a “differently-abled” dachshund who competed in a dachshund dog race in Washington last week.

Did he win? He’s already a winner, so it didn’t matter much what place he came in 🙂

I love this story because I lived a bit of this kind of canine-challenge.

My pal Bruno the wonder dog (sitting right next to me as I type) was paralyzed by in an accident when he was five years old. After a very serious back surgery, we were told he might not regain use of his legs, but he could be fitted for “wheels” for his back legs. Shaken by the news but resolute to do whatever we could for Bruno, the dog said that dogs cope with such tragedies well. They don’t get stuck in “sad” – they just learn to cope.

For weeks Bruno couldn’t walk. But slowly, with Michael and I doing physical therapy with him every day, he got back up on his feet. A long slow process.

Today, he’s great. He only recovered about 70% of his back leg strength, but he walks and runs on his own. His run is kind of like a gallop, but I smile every day he gallops across the backyard.

So, I celebrate little Anderson Pooper. Keep running your race “A-Poop!”

Hero dog saves deaf thirteen year old from serious house fire

Ace the hero dog and his owner Nick

An Indianapolis pit bull is credited with saving the life of his deaf owner.

Nick Lamb, 13 years old, was sleeping at home without his hearing aids when his dog Ace woke him up by licking his face:

“My dog licked my face and woke me up,” Lamb said. “I was like, ‘Stop it! What? You want to be fed?’ I thought he wanted to be fed or go outside.”

Ace didn’t stop licking Nick until the teen got up, too. That’s when he realized the house was full of smoke.

“I couldn’t hear anything because I had my cochlear implants off. … My dog Ace smelled it,” Lamb said. “I just wanted to get out.”

Without his shoes but with Ace by his side, he covered his nose and mouth with his T-shirt darted out the back door, grabbing one of his implants along the way.

He then called his mother and 911.

The fire was serious enough to cause $175,000 of damage to the home.

Ace Rocks.
