Possible new direction for “Hello 12, Hello 13” in A Chorus Line???

My director Stafford Arima and I keep affirming that we want to explore new directions and ideas for A Chorus Line here at Sacramento Music Circus, currently in rehearsal.

I came across this video today… Possibilities?

🙂

Video: Ballet Zoom “Cats”

I honestly have no idea what this is. But I bet if you’re high, it’s fabulous.

Ballet Zoom was a Spanish disco dance troupe formed in 1973.

I post it because I have a love for all things “hip and groovy,” and because I did the musical CATS back when it was a good credit.

As they used to say, “this is far out, man.”

100 Days of Dance

From ProjectOneLife on YouTube, where the poster shares videos of him ticking off his “bucket list” items:

“I had a GoPro camera set up on my cabinet and I just recorded myself doing the same dance routine every day.

“I wanted to do something along the lines of take a picture of myself everyday for a year but different. I eventually came up with the idea of 100 days of dance, I really didnt want to do this for a year so I thought 100 days seemed pretty good.

“Overall it was pretty fun dancing everyday and this was one of my more unique ideas and I’m pretty glad how it turned out.”

Over 400,000 views in less than a day.

Ballet class

Most people are exposed to dance by seeing a movie or attending a live performance. But most folks aren’t aware of the “nuts and bolts” of daily training to become a dancer. Much of the preparation is in repetition of the same exercised every day.

There’s something strangely comforting about the routine of ballet class.

And then there’s the female dancer’s gorgeous lines. I had to stop and watch.

Dance: Ricky Ubeda “Vitality”

Ricky Ubeda of So You Think You Can Dance
Ricky Ubeda

Seventeen years old.  This is someone born to dance.

Besides the obvious flexibility and extension, note his technique, control, feel for dynamics, and connection to what he’s expressing – all right there.  Artistry.

He should have a terrific career.

Teaching Fosse

My good friend Michael Parker is in Las Vegas with a really talented group of dancers, and I was flattered to be asked to teach a master class on “Fosse-style.”

It’s amazing to realize what we can forget.

I sometimes forget that at the age of 50 I still love to dance.  Often, it’s the “idea” of dancing that isn’t so great in my head, but then when I’m dancing I remember what a gift it is.

I sometimes forget how much I’ve learned from so many great choreographers and dancers like Lee Roy Reams, Ann Reinking, Donna McKechnie, Sandahl Bergman, Thommie Walsh, Baayork Lee, Patti Wilcox, Chris Chadman, Rob Ashford, Kathleen Marshall… So many I can’t remember them all.   (I forget things – have I mentioned that?)

I sometimes forget that I really like passing that information on to the next generation.  Ann Reinking told me once it’s a very important tradition and responsibility in the dance world.  And she was, as usual, correct.

I forget a lot.

Today it was fun to remember.
