National Organization of Marriage leader “intentionally” lies – again

“The Senate has abandoned society’s most important institution and put their constituents on a collision course with the law. Lawmakers have allowed themselves to be fooled into thinking they have protected people of faith when in fact they have put those who believe in true marriage in the crosshairs of the law and gay ‘marriage’ activists. It won’t be long before the repercussions begin to be felt.”

“For the first time, the state of Rhode Island is saying to its children they do not deserve both a mother and a father, and are backing a law that is designed to intentionally deprive some kids of either a mom or a dad. It’s bad enough when families break down through divorce or death, but it’s unconscionable when a state encourages this through policies that deprive children of the love of both a mother and a father. This is a very sad day for Rhode Island.” – Hate group leader Brian Brown, who continues to walk down the road of life backwards

First of all, marriage equality isn’t about “intentionally” depriving kids of parents.  It’s about equal rights.

Second, it’s not a sad day Brian.  It’s a “skies are blue” fabulous day for Rhode Island.

The wrong side of history, Brian.  The wrong side of history…

Zach Wahls destroys anti-gay Boy Scout rep on discrimination issue

Zach Wahls, super-hero and LGBT ally, destroys a very sad man, John Stemberger, who tries to “stand up” for anti-gay discrimination by the Boy Scouts of America.

The fact of the matter is no one is “promoting” any “gay agenda.” The issue with whether or not young gay men will be allowed to participate in the positive journey Scouting can have on a young man. AND whether or not a young adult Scout, after spending a decade perhaps in Boy Scouts, will be allowed to continue in service to an organization that might provide excellent opportunities to young men.

The idea that an openly gay adult male would not be able to take part as a Scout Leader – because it’s assumed they wouldn’t be able to control their ‘sexual urges’ – is reprehensible. That would be like saying straight men can’t control themselves from raping any woman on the street.

It’s simply ridiculous.

And yet you have John Stemberger telling the world that gays will “destroy” the Boy Scouts.

“Destroy” the Boy Scouts.

“Destroy.” How about that word?

SRSLY.

Family Research Council busted using faked image for anti-gay propaganda

Just another day in the lying land of the Family Research Council.

The image above was used in FRC’s recent propaganda to show several concerned people at a “Boy Scouts Policy Meeting.”  See the placard on the left side of the picture saying “2013 Policy Meeting?”  See the Boy Scouts emblem near the center of the image?  Jeremy Hooper from Good As You found just one, little problem:

It’s a complete fabrication. FRC simply Photoshopped a Boy Scout logo and a “2013 Policy Meeting” placard onto an existing picture that they lifted from another site. The picture in question is actually from the website LegalGeekery.com and is described as being from the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

The LegalGeekery post is from 2009. See the original image below BEFORE Family Research Council performed their bigotry magic on it:

So, here’s the thing, kids: if you have swallowed any of the FRC’s sad diatribe against the LGBT community up to now, think about who you follow. Because for all you know, they are as fake as the image at the top of this post.

Texas: Senate committee advances bill to repeal sodomy law 5-0

Texas’ Senate Committee on Criminal Justice voted 5-0 this afternoon to advance Senate Bill 538, which would repeal the state’s law banning sodomy.

From Equality Texas:

SB 538 would repeal §21.06 of the Penal Code, the Homosexual Conduct Law, which was declared unconstitutional by the United States Supreme Court in the 2003 Lawrence v. Texas decision. The bill would also amend the Health and Safety Code to delete the statement that “homosexual conduct is not an acceptable lifestyle and is a criminal offense under §21.06, Penal Code.”

SB 538 is the first legislation ever filed in the Texas Senate to repeal the unenforceable §21.06 of the Penal Code. Identical legislation has been filed in the Texas House this session [HB 1701 by Farrar and HB 3232 by Coleman] and in every session since the Lawrence v. Texas decision.

The legislation was filed by Senator José Rodríguez of El Paso.

“Day of Dialog” from anti-gay Focus On The Family

The video above is to promote anti-gay organization Focus On The Family’s “Day of Dialogue” – a rebuttal to GLSEN’s “Day of Silence:”

The National Day of Silence is a day of action in which students across the country vow to take a form of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools.

Founded in 1996, the Day of Silence has become the largest single student-led action towards creating safer schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. From the first-ever Day of Silence at the University of Virginia in 1996, to the organizing efforts in over 8,000 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities across the country in 2008, its textured history reflects its diversity in both numbers and reach.

Fascinating that Focus On The Family and other anti-gay organizations urge parents to keep their kids home from school on Friday to try and minimize the impact of something positive like teaching kids it’s not cool to beat the shit out of gay kids.

But on the website for “Day of Dialogue” they say:

“Wouldn’t it be nice if a deeper and freer conversation could happen when controversial sexual topics are brought up in your school?”

So NOW they want to talk about sexual topics???

And btw – the students in the above video keep saying they “have a voice” but notice how they don’t say anything about the topic at hand?

Women of the World Poetry Slam: “To Michele Bachmann”

Sierra DeMulder, finalist in the 2013 Women of the World Poetry Slam, during the one minute round in WOWPS prelims in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

DeMulder takes Michele Bachmann and husband to task for their clinic which offers “reparative therapy” to gay and lesbians.

Strictly business, indeed.

Transcript (via Towleroad):

“Your husband owns a clinic that offers to cure homosexuality for up to $10,000 a year. So when you, Representative Bachmann, refused to acknowledge the bullying of gay students in your district, this must have been strictly business.

“When another gay teenager commits suicide in Minnesota, you consider this free advertising. You buy a new necklace for every hanging, a bottle of Merlot for each overdose, your husband sends ‘thank you’ cards to their funeral, hand-signed, all referrals welcomed.

“How could we expect you to take a stand against bullying when it helps pay for your mortgage, when it puts food in your children’s belly? One day, your youngest daughter will ask you why her school supplies feel like they belong to someone else, her pencils write names that are not hers, Samantha, Nick, Aaron, Kevin. Tell her the truth Michele, that blood money is not a metaphor, that your wallet is heavy with those who have untied themselves. Tell your daughter that God is the bully with the biggest fist and you can only hope that he is on your side!”

Son of anti-gay marriage lawmaker: My father loves me

Matt R. Salmon, the openly gay son of conservative congressman Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ), talks to Anderson Cooper about still being loved by his family, although his parents campaign against his right to marry.

“I finally realized that no matter what our differences and opinions are, we have to love and support each other. And since then, our relationship has really grown stronger. And I’ve watched as my dad has just really been a huge supporter of me….Yes, he doesn’t support gay marriage, but that’s no reason that I shouldn’t love him, or just accept him for who he is. I hope that he changes his position” on marriage rights for same-sex couples.”

Watching the interview, I get an air of melancholy. Maybe I’m right on that, or maybe he’s just got low blood sugar or something. But his demeanor seemed to carry a sense of sadness about it.

Listening to younger Salmon’s reasoning, the situation seems to be: he respects his parent’s views and opinions but they don’t have to respect his.

I’m not sure how you live in a great head space knowing your parents sent you to “reparative therapy” hoping to change who you intrinsically are.

And when Anderson asks if Matt’s family would be “ok” meeting someone he was dating, note the pause in his answer: “I, I believe so… yeah.”

“I believe so”?

In other words, it hasn’t happened?

Sadness just hangs over the whole thing…

Catholic League Prez Bill Donohue – “Marriage has nothing to do with love”

Current TV’s John Fugelsang spars with Catholic League President Bill Donohue over gay marriage, the Catholic League’s feud with Bill Maher and the priest sex abuse scandal.

Just one little gem from Donohue:
“This idea of two men getting married is the most bizarre idea in human history… Christians have an obligation, particularly Catholics to follow natural law. The whole purpose of marriage is to have a family.  It’s not about making people happy.  It’s not about love.”
