Slovakia: Anti-Gay Marriage Referendum Falls In Utter Failure

A group affiliated with the Catholic Church – Alliance For Family – attempted to “super-ban” marriage equality in Slovakia via referendum today.

The ballot posed three questions for voters:

• The first asked voters if marriage should be defined as a union between a man and a woman. This was mostly symbolic, the county had already outlawed same-sex marriage.

• The second asked if same-sex couples should be allowed to adopt.

• The third question asked if parents should have the right to withdraw children from sex ed classes.

All three proposals failed miserably.

For a referendum to pass in Slovakia, a minimum of 50% of registered votes have to participate in the vote.  Today’s efforts saw only a scant 21.4% take part.

Several US-based anti-gay groups (National Organization for Marriage, Alliance Defending Freedom, World Congress of Families) openly supported the effort, thus making the utter failure that much more enjoyable.

Only one referendum has passed since Slovakia became a country – the vote to join the European Union.

Congressman Aaron Schock Has A Secret Only His Interior Decorator Knows

Congressman Aaron Schock is totally not gay
Rep. Aaron Schock

So, totally not gay Republican Congressman Aaron Schock of Illinois recently redecorated his office in Washington, D.C.

A new Congress, a new look. What could that hurt?

As the story goes, a woman named Annie Brahler, of the decorating firm Euro Trash, offered her services free of charge to the handsome, young congressman, although he did have to personally pay for any items she picked out on his behalf.

Well, Washington Post reporter Ben Terris stopped by the offices of Mr. Schock and was greeted by what was described by staff as inspired by the PBS hit series Downton Abbey. The decorator, Ms. Annie Brahler, even offered a tour of the redux.

As Brahler and Terris walked around, though, Schock’s communications director Benjamin Cole got involved with a somewhat abrupt request to cease, desist and delete all pics of the office redo, and offering an interview on any subject with the congressman as long as it wasn’t about the office decor.

“He’s happy to talk to you, just not about the office,” Cole reportedly told Terris. “I’m really sorry and want you to know this is not fun for me.”

Now why, many wonder, would a PR guy get so nervous about an office decor change?

Eyebrows seem to be raised because of persistent rumors that the 33 year old congressman is actually gay and closeted, with a voting record that is not LGBT friendly at all.

Tony Perkins: Gays Persecute Christians On Facebook With “Naked” Pictures

After years of fighting to deny equal rights to the LGBT community, Tony Perkins of the hate group Family Research Council recently told his radio show audience that when LGBT advocates call his ilk out for hate speech what’s really happening is gays “projecting” their own hate.

Talk about turning a situation around in your head.

He also compared gay activists to a deranged man who showed up at FRC headquarters with a gun last year.

Listen below via Right Wing Watch:

Perkins took a call from a listener who complained that he had seen a picture on Facebook of “two naked guys sitting on each other” and that when he complained about it to Facebook “in a nice, respectful, Christian way,” he was treated like “the biggest bigot out there.”

“I think we need to pray for them, maybe they’ll turn their lives around,” the caller said.

Perkins agreed that “Jesus said that we are to pray for our enemies, for those who persecute us, that would be those who mock and ridicule us, absolutely we should pray for them.”

Citing a mentally disturbed man who tried to stage an attack on FRC headquarters, Perkins contended that LGBT rights proponents are the real intolerant “haters” because they’re “projecting.”

“We’ve had them come into our building with guns, shooting, to try to kill us,” he said. “We harbor no bitterness in our hearts toward them, which is something they can’t understand. They want to project and that’s why they like to call us haters and so on and so forth, but they’re projecting.”

He added that he is very tolerant of gay people and doesn’t mind if they “live together, do whatever they want to do” as long as they don’t “redefine all of society for the rest of us.”

“I think more and more Americans are waking up because they’re seeing it,” he said. “This is being shoved into people’s faces, and if, like you, they say, ‘I don’t want this on my Facebook page, I don’t want this, I don’t want to see this, look, do whatever you want to do but don’t involve me in that’ — that’s not good enough, there’s this effort of forced acceptance and affirmation. And we just can’t do that.”

Bryan Fischer: You Are Literally Staring At Satan When You Meet Gay People

Hate group leader Bryan Fischer clearly doesn’t understand the definition of the word “literally.”

“I don’t think you will ever find a more directly demonic energy than when you deal with the homosexual agenda.

[snip]

“They’re vicious. They are mean. You literally are staring into virtually the unvarnished energy of Satan himself when you come up against the forces that are pushing the homosexual agenda forward.”

Louisiana Gov. Jindal Would Support Federal Same-Sex Marriage Ban

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” said he would support a constitutional amendment promoted by Sen. Ted Cruz (TX) which would enable state legislatures to outlaw same-sex marriage should SCOTUS overturn various state bans.

“If the Supreme Court were to throw out our law, our constitutional amendment — I hope they wouldn’t do that — if they were to do that, I certainly will support Ted Cruz and others that are talking about making … a constitutional amendment to allow states to continue to define marriage.”

“I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman,” Jindal said. “My faith teaches me that, my Christian faith teaches me that. I’m not for discrimination against anybody. I know that many politicians are evolving, so-called evolving on this issue based on the polls. I don’t change my views based on the polls.”

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear same-sex marriage cases from the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. A ruling is expected by June.

Ben Carson: Anti-Gay Bakers Might Poison Wedding Cakes If Pushed

Conservative political hopeful Ben Carson, speaking to the press yesterday at the Iowa Freedom Summit, learned he may need to sharpen his technique when facing the press.

Take this example when he commented on political correctness and gay marriage:

“What I have a problem with is when people try to force people to act against their beliefs because they say ‘they’re discriminating against me.’ So they can go right down the street and buy a cake, but no, let’s bring a suit against this person because I want them to make my cake even though they don’t believe in it.

“Which is really not all that smart because they might put poison in that cake.”

According to The Hill, Carson’s staff found the comment humorous, but received dead silence from the journalists in the room.

Fired Atlanta Fire Chief Files Religious Discrimination Charges

Fired Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran has filed a complaint against the city of Atlanta for religious discrimination, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Kelvin became a national story recently because he was terminated for proselytizing subordinates at work by handing out a faith-based self-published book condemning homosexual acts as “vile, vulgar and inappropriate.”

During a month-long suspension, Cochran was warned not to speak out about the issue while it was being investigated. He did so anyway.

At the time of the firing, Mayor Reed said, “His religious (beliefs) are not the basis of the problem. His judgment is the basis of the problem.”

Cochran swore out the complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging violations of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by the City of Atlanta on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Attorney Jonathan Crumly filed an EEOC complaint Wednesday on behalf of Cochran, who was fired this month after complaints about his self-published 2013 book, “Who Told You You Are Naked?” “Americans are guaranteed the freedom to live without fear of losing their jobs because of their beliefs and thoughts. We are continuing to evaluate all available legal options to vindicate Chief Cochran after his unjust termination,” said Crumly, who is allied with the group Alliance Defending Freedom that has rallied to Cochran’s defense.

Talking Points Memo reports Mayor Reed had this to say about the complaint:

“He can get all of the lawyers he wants so that he can continue to have publicity and sell books, but he’s going to lose the legal case,” Reed told local TV station WAGA. “What is not disputed is he never communicated with me, the chief executive officer, prior to the publication of the book. It’s clearly out of bounds.”

A Guy Being A “Jack” Ass In Colorado About A Cake

A guy named Bill Jack walks into a bakery…

Walking into a bakery and requesting a cake be made to say “God hates fags” so you can attempt to make some point about “religious freedom” just makes you an asshole.

Bill Jack says he was discriminated against based on his creed. “Creed” is defined as “a formal statement of religious belief.”

In no account of this story ANYWHERE has it been reported that the baker refused on religious grounds. She admits she refused to write discriminatory hate speech.

She offered to make the cake and provide the asshole with icing so he could write his own bigoted statements. You can’t force someone to write (or say) what you want them to say if they don’t believe it themselves. This violates folks freedom of speech.

It’s also of interest that Jack specifically would not allow the paper with his desired hate speech to leave his hands. Hmm – worried about evidence landing somewhere, Mr. Jack?

Where this differs greatly from the anti-gay bakers in Colorado last year is two issues:

1. That baker specifically said he wouldn’t make a wedding cake for a gay couple’s wedding because it was a gay wedding. Because “gay.” Colorado outlaws discrimination based on sexual orientation. And the baker pointedly said that was what his decision was based on.

2. No one asked the baker last year to write anything specifically “pro” or “anti” anything on a wedding cake. As a matter of fact, it’s never been reported if ANY writing was requested. All that was ordered was “a wedding cake.” The baker was not being required to write anything specific to pro-gay messaging.

Watch the report below on Mr. Bill Jack’s attempt to incite “something.”

Anti-Gay Pastor Fires Back At Ellen – And Misses

Anti-gay pastor Larry Tomczak, who Ellen DeGeneres addressed on her talk show after he accused her of having a “gay agenda,” fires back at Ellen – in a woefully misconstrued litany of inaccuracies.

I lost count the times I talked back to my computer as I watched this.

He mentions that “there’s a lot of shouting” and “name calling” on both sides of the gay issue – inferring that in this instance Ellen somehow raised her voice or was shouting at him. She never raised her voice in her rebuttal to him, nor does she call him names.

Ellen quoted Tomczak about examples of gays on TV, ending with “I think Larry’s watching a lot of gay TV.” He follows up on that comment saying he doesn’t watch a lot of any kind of TV. Then, how does he know what is or isn’t on TV and what is or isn’t “gay” on TV? Is he going on hearsay?

After clearly writing that Ellen celebrates her lesbianism “to attract young girls,” he says in this video that he never inferred that Ellen was purposefully trying to influence young girls. Which is it, Larry?

I stopped noting inaccuracies after that. The list was getting too long.

Watch below. He smiles through the whole thing, but it’s practically delusional in it’s base. And his faux “civility” is cringe-worthy.

Related: I’ve written about Tomczak before when he announced that gay men are effeminate as “punishment” for being gay.
