Hillary Clinton holds an edge over Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential race among likely Democratic caucus-goers, according to a new Iowa poll.
Clinton has 47% support compared to Sanders’ 42%, according to a Monmouth University survey released Thursday. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley comes in third with 6% support.

I love that the Rum Tum Tugger is played by Trump, who admits this has all been a joke and he really doesn’t want to be in the race at all.

Last week, the New York Times reported that former 3-term mayor of New York City and uber-billionaire Michael Bloomberg is considering a possible independent run for the White House.
(Donald Trump likes to say he’s really rich. Donald, compared to you, Bloomberg is REALLY, REALLY rich).
Having been a Democrat turned Republican turned Independent, Bloomberg believes he could pull voters from both major political parties. Plus, being worth more than $30 Billion, he could easily drop $1 Billion of his own money without blinking.
But a Morning Consult poll shows the former mayor would not fare well in a three-way race:
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has a ways to go if he wants to win as a third-party candidate for president. According to a new Morning Consult poll, Bloomberg, an independent, gets just 12 percent of voters when competing in a three-way race with the Democratic underdog candidate Bernie Sanders and Republican front-runner Donald Trump.
Sanders, a democratic socialist who has recently tightened the race with front-runner Hillary Clinton, gets 35 percent of voters. Trump gets a nearly identical 34 percent.
Bloomberg is considering entering the race as an independent, third-party candidate if Trump and Sanders are the eventual nominees, the New York Times reported on Saturday, because he could compete with two candidates on the fringes of their parties.
But Bloomberg’s poll numbers barely change when he is competing against Sanders instead of Clinton. In a Morning Consult poll released last week, Bloomberg got 13 percent of voters, Clinton got 36 percent and Trump got 37 percent.

The point being: why spend a billion dollars to come in a distant third?
Following up on the endorsement by The Des Moines Register, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton scores two more newspaper endorsements.
Echoing the Des Moines Register, both focus on how qualified Hillary is to be President, and her unmatched breadth of experience.
I’ve been worried that the polls were shifting in Bernie Sander’s direction of late in Iowa, so I’m happy to have any help.
According to Nate Silver’s 538 website, since 1988 an endorsement by the Des Moines Register averages a 3% difference in the total vote. That could make the difference in the upcoming Democratic caucus’s.

In the “arena” at the fulcrum of national and international events since the ’90s, Clinton requires no on-the-job training. Only one Democratic candidate for president is truly qualified to hold the job: Hillary Clinton.
No contender’s resume can come within miles of matching Clinton’s. She’s ready to take up the nation’s top job on day one and her knowledge of domestic issues and foreign policy is encyclopedic. There is also a strong chance, should Clinton become president, that the poisonous partisanship that’s paralyzed Washington will be diminished rather than increased. Why? During her eight years as a senator from New York, she proved her ability to find common ground with Republicans, accords that allowed needed legislation to advance.
Speaking in Sioux Center, Iowa, Donald Trump bragged about his popularity with his supporters.
“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters,” Trump said.
As Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump attack each other via campaign ads, the Democratic candidate’s ads are much more positive.
I posted Sen. Bernie Sanders excellent, hopeful ad yesterday, and today we get this uplifting message from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The focus of the ad is on Hillary’s message that she will fight for everyone – “the struggling, the striving and the successful.” Hillary makes a very clear reference to supporting same-sex marriage with shots of a gay couple kissing and holding hands as she punches the words “or who you love.”
Very good spot. I’d give it a 9.5 (just because you never know how much better a campaign ad can get.
According to a new CNN/ORC poll Republican Donald Trump and Democratic Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders have opened up solid leads in the Iowa race up to the February 1st caucus’s.
• Trump leads Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who is in second place in the GOP race, among likely Republican caucus-goers, 37% to 26%. Sen. Marco Rubio comes in a distant 3rd at 14%. All others are in single digits.
• Sanders, meanwhile, has opened up an eight-point lead over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, leading her in Iowa 51% to 43%
There is an interesting aspect to the poll results, however. When only counting respondents who previously caucused in their party’s most recent competitive caucus, the numbers change up quite a bit.
• Cruz pulls past Trump, with 30% for Cruz to 28% for Trump. Rubio stays somewhat unchanged at 16% in that sample.
• Looking at Democrats who caucused in 2008, Clinton moves into the lead over Sanders, with Clinton 55% to Sanders 38%.
What this would mean to me is a lot of folks who are not regular caucus-goers make the difference for Trump and Sanders. Those two are inspiring energy – BUT – will they actually show up on a cold February night to support their choice when it’s not a habit for them?
We shall see in just 11 days.
In an attempt to scare GOP voters with a Hillary Clinton win for the White House, Jeb Bush puts up this ad with an imagined election victory by Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump, ending with “Dont’ panic – it’s not too late to change the future.”
The interesting thing about the ad is – the sun is shining, Hillary looks great, and the crowds are happy. Is this supposed to be a “negative ad?”
Hillary should take the first 90% of this and use it herself.
If I was Jeb Bush, I’d be firing some folks today.
Cher pulls no punches in summing up the current presidential race regarding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and billionaire Donald Trump to Billboard:
“Believe whatever you want about Hillary; whatever she is or isn’t, she’s tough,” Cher says.
“I don’t like anything about Donald Trump. It’s a joke at a time when you really need serious people. I don’t think he wants the job, or I don’t think he actually wants to do the work. I think he wants the job because it’s the ultimate deal, and he’s the ultimate ego. I don’t know that I’ve heard or seen anybody like him, and I also never thought that Americans would go for someone like him, a person of his quality.”
Yesterday, the Human Rights Campaign – the largest LGBT advocacy organization in the country – officially endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president.
This news did not sit well with her current opponent for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Bernie Sanders, who – to be fair – has also been an ally to the LGBT community for years, just as Hillary Clinton has.
Planned Parenthood also chose to endorse Clinton.
Appearing on MSNBC last night he opined:
“What we are doing in this campaign — and it just blows my mind every day, because I see it clearly, we’re taking on not only Wall Street and the economic establishment, we’re taking on the political establishment.”
“And so I have friends and supporters in the Human Rights Fund, in Planned Parenthood,” Sanders continued. “But you know what, Hillary Clinton has been around there for a very, very long time and some of these groups are, in fact, part of the establishment.”
THAT comment didn’t sit well with Hillary Clinton, who immediately tweeted:

Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign both responded on twitter Wednesday morning to Sanders’ criticism.
