I was looking for something in a smooth jazz vein today to chill to and remembered “On The Other Side Of The Tracks” by Vanessa Williams from her 2024 album Survivor. Vanessa reinvents the Cy Coleman/Carolyn Leigh classic with the perfect touch of smooth jazz definitely making it her own. The vibe is exactly what I was looking for, plus the lyrics feel like an appropriately positive nod to looking beyond obstacles (which we all felt this week). Vanessa is still currently wowing West End audiences in London starring in the music Elton John musical The Devil Wears Prada. I hope everyone’s having a great Sunday. We’re prepping to watch the Oscars. I’ve decided I’m pulling for Demi Moore for “Best Actress,” and of course I’m looking forward to seeing Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande perform from WICKED.
