Documents obtained by the Washington Post indicate Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump’s nominee for Defense Secretary, paid off a woman who accused him of sexual assault as part of a nondisclosure agreement. According to Hegseth’s lawyer, the Fox & Friends Weekend host insists the sexual encounter with the married woman was consensual.

From the Washington Post:
Hegseth’s attorney, Timothy Parlatore, said that Hegseth was “visibly intoxicated” at the time of the incident, and maintained that police who were contacted a few days after the encounter by the woman concluded that “the Complainant had been the aggressor in the encounter.” Police have not confirmed that assertion.
Hegseth agreed to pay an undisclosed amount to the woman because he feared that revelation of the matter “would result in his immediate termination from Fox,” where he worked as a host, the statement said.
The statement came after a detailed memo was sent to the Trump transition team this week by a woman who said she is a friend of the accuser. The memo, a copy of which was obtained by The Post, alleged he raped the then-30-year-old conservative group staffer in his room after drinking at a hotel bar.
The woman reportedly went to a hospital ER, where she received a rape-kit examination that “was positive for semen.” The police report included details of contusions, or bruises, to the woman’s right thigh. There’s much more at the link. From the details presented, it would seem the “best” version of what happened (from Hegseth’s side) would be that he got “visibly intoxicated” at a hotel bar, took a married woman to his hotel room, and had sex with her. This from the guy who led his college conservative magazine to write “rants” that called gays “immoral.” America, I give you your next Defense Secretary.
It’s easy to understand why Pete Hegseth is against working with women when you realize both of his marriages ended after an affair with a coworker pic.twitter.com/s25cQaEkrZ
