Pro-Biden PAC Donors Put $90 Million On Hold

Major Democratic donors have informed Future Forward, the largest pro-Biden PAC, that they are freezing nearly $90 million in pledges if President Joe Biden remains the Democratic candidate.

From the New York Times:

The frozen contributions include multiple eight-figure commitments, according to the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the situation.

The decision to withhold such enormous sums of money is one of the most concrete examples of the fallout from Mr. Biden’s poor debate performance at the end of June.

The cash freeze comes as some advisers around Mr. Biden are discussing how to persuade the president to exit the race, and as his campaign has begun to test Vice President Kamala Harris in head-to-head surveys of voters against former President Donald J. Trump.

In related news, so far, 18 Democrats in Congress have publicly urged Biden to step aside since his faltering debate performance two weeks ago, fearing he will lose the White House to Donald Trump. House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) reportedly met privately with Biden last night after his press conference saying he passed along the “full breadth” of thoughts he heard within his caucus. Even so, Biden got a boost this morning from Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), a respected voice among Black Americans, who said Biden should not drop his reelection bid following a high-profile press conference.
