Viral Video: Why I Feel How I Feel About The Election

TikTok user Sweeper698 explains how he (and I) feel about the presidential election

I realize I haven’t shared my own thoughts on the results of the presidential race this week. Like many, I was numb that a clear majority of American voters chose a man who’s been found liable for sexual assault, guilty of 34 business fraud felonies, and made heated, ugly rhetoric the cornerstone of his campaign. I really didn’t know what was underneath that numbness. And then, I came across this video from TikTok user @sweeper698 that’s now gone viral across nearly every social media platform. Campaign Trail: Beyoncé & Kamala Crush It In Houston, Trump Supporters Wait 3 Hours In The Cold

Beyoncé made her long-awaited appearance on the campaign trail with VP Kamala Harris last night in her hometown of Houston. For even more star power, the mega-Grammy winner was played on by none other than country music legend and introduced by Kelly Rowland. In a personal and pensive speech about the importance of coalescing around Harris – “we need you” – Beyoncé made her pitch to voters “not as a celebrity, not as a politician,” but “as a mother.” Via the Associated Press:

Kamala Harris and Beyoncé ignited a Houston rally with a double-barreled argument against Donald Trump on Friday, with the superstar telling the Democratic nominee’s biggest crowd ever that it was “time to sing a new song” as Harris warned that her GOP opponent was dead set on further eroding women’s rights.

“For all the men and women in this room, and watching around the country, we need you,” Beyoncé said in a rare political appearance.

The megastar’s speech was lofty, joyful and optimistic — a temper to the seriousness of the topic and of the message Harris was there to bring.

It was an excellent speech, especially in its focus and its brevity. Good for her. Here’s hoping her appearance and support moves some voters to the polls. Meanwhile, Donald Trump recorded an episode of the Joe Rogan podcast. Knowing it’s one of the top podcasts in the world, and has a huge young male audience, Trump stayed a while. In fact, he stayed 3 hours. And while he spent most of that meandering through life on mars and discovering that trees need water, he had supporters waiting for him in the cold in Michigan for 8 hours.

After he arrived at his rally three hours late, it seems he didn’t have much to say, so he again resorted to playing music while just stood onstage listening. Here he is chilling out at the rally to “Ave Maria.”
