Some news items you might have missed: • The Advocate: Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, the first Senate-confirmed gay Cabinet member, has shared a warm remembrance of former President Jimmy Carter, who died Sunday at age 100. • LGBTQ Nation: In his “Icon of the Year” interview with TIME Magazine, Elton John reveals what ended his years-long addiction to cocaine.

The singer reflected on his music, legacy, and “how far down the scale of humanity” he’d once fallen.

Gay City News: Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper are reuniting in Times Square to co-host CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast for an eighth consecutive year. If past years are any indication, I expect lots of giggling from Anderson. • NBC News: 12 of the buzziest and critically-acclaimed LGBTQ-inclusive films that  that kept audiences talking this year.

The Hill: The new House of Representatives convenes on Friday to elect its Speaker of the House and several Republicans have gone on the record saying they are undecided as to whether to re-elect Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) to the post. With just a tiny majority, Johnson can only afford to lose one GOP vote. • Pride.com: AppleTV+ is offering all their original programming for free this weekend (Jan. 3-5) and here’s a list of 20 excellent LGBTQ shows to check out if you haven’t already.
