Observing Trans Day Of Visibility 2026

Each year since 2010, the world observes Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) on March 31 to celebrate the lives and contributions of trans people.

Created by trans advocate Rachel Crandall, TDOV is meant to be a day to recognize the lives of transgender people, while simultaneously acknowledging that due to discrimination, not every trans person can or wants to be visible.

There are an estimated 4.4 million transgender adults across the United States, according to the Human Rights Campaign.

But only a minority of Americans say they know someone who’s transgender which makes accurate representation and public storytelling essential.

TDOV serves as an opportunity to increase visibility. To all my trans friends and readers, I see you.

My favorite author, Leo Herrera, offers this poem from his book POST in honor of TDOV.
