News Round-Up: August 25, 2021

Some news items you might have missed:

Instinct Magazine: The new streaming series Iconic Justice stars Drag Race and Big Brother alum Willam as she takes the world to court in cases over “kink-shaming, racist micro-aggressions, professional jealousy in the gay nightlife scenes, and so much more.” Matthew Camp (above) co-stars as Willam’s hunky bailiff.

NPR: A Pennsylvania woman who pleaded guilty to coughing and spitting on food at a supermarket in March 2020 has been sentenced to at least a year in jail. She was also ordered to pay the store for the $35,000 in produce that had to be thrown away. Margaret Ann Cirko pleaded guilty in June to a felony count of making bomb threats.

Washington Post: Former football running back Herschel Walker has filed paperwork to run for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, challenging freshman Sen. Raphael G. Warnock (D) with the backing of former president Donald Trump.

Axios: More than 77% of America’s ICU beds are being used right now as hospitals grapple with a crush of severely ill COVID patients, almost all of them unvaccinated. Arkansas and Alabama officials say their states were completely out of ICU beds. In Florida, 94% of ICU beds are full.

MSN: A federal judge in Michigan sanctioned pro-Trump attorneys (including Sidney Powell and Lin Wood) ruling the attorneys should face a range of punishments—including potential disbarment—for their lawsuit that attempted to overturn President Joe Biden’s win in the state.

Reuters: Delta Air Lines will require unvaccinated U.S. employees to pay a $200 monthly surcharge toward healthcare. They will also have to wear face masks when indoors and take weekly coronavirus tests.
